[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Who's listened to it? It was it was a nice little capper for the whole experience of the three

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_02]: We had planned it weeks ahead and then at the last minute we found out something that there were three other movies

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Star Wars movies were made like a long time ago. I made a long time ago now in a weird process

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: So George Lucas made four five and six mm-hmm by his explanation

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: They were test screenings. Okay, well that's the explanation of that mad man

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I said by his explanation. Yeah, yeah, and he continued working on them

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: He says he did not officially finish them until the 90s just right there were re-released

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_02]: You know with a more completed in his opinion sort of special effects and so on and so forth

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like this like dark menacing figure. It's like the simplest kind of storytelling

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_00]: There's also a lot of silence like it it feels very reminiscent of the gendi taratakosky

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But on the other hand like r2 pushed him into an escape pod

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I think c3 pio doesn't have the perspective to see that that was the right thing to do. Yeah. Well, it anyway

[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Uh and then so we see r2 for a while on his own this movie successfully tells the story of this

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's shot in tannousia where they show you know where they shoot the Tatooine stuff

[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_02]: You got these great like rocky and then these little jawa people these little hooded sort of monk like

[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_02]: You know bandits. I don't know what they are

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Very weird gibberish. Yeah, like is there a whole

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Is there a whole like economy based on like hopefully a droid crash lands on this ship planet?

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's weird because they like kind of kidnap him. Yeah, it's like they're the equivalent of like uh, you know

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_00]: recycling like hand collectors

[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly exactly

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like let's just roam around and go through the garbage and find all the cans that people don't want

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And so they get yeah, they get put on this ship r2 first 3po eventually gets picked up by these guys great ship

[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a big like a real crawler. Yeah looks like a sort of yeah wedge of cheese

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And there's that great shot where r2 like you see from r2's perspective the little sand crawler off in the distance

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And it just gets bigger and bigger closer closer slowly and slowly the same with 3po. He sees and he's like oh, yeah

[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the lack of a CGI in these scenes when he is in the droid

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_02]: You know this kind of like it's it's almost like they're all slaves like you know like you know

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_02]: They're kind of being processed and there's all these weird droids around this all this physical stuff

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about this a lot. There's a very realty to it

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Come on ben right? Oh no my god. It's gorgeous. It's really amazing

[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_01]: You get totally immersed into the world. You ever hear fucking mr. Positive be that positive? He's so positive

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I love this movie. Our levels are off the charts because we're so excited

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of like an old middle eastern stereotype. Oh sure. Yeah, they're bedwins. Yeah the fact that they don't speak helps

[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Actors to replicate voices that are tied to cultural stereotypes that link up with the way they're dressed and what their professions are

[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Gives you access to this thing here the way Obi-Wan talks about it. It's like a living binding energy of all living things

[00:55:05] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like this atmosphere kind of around us at all times, but just some of us are more tuned to it

[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a thing that unites us, you know, you might not believe in god

[00:55:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know a personification a guy with a beard and a fucking, you know cloak up in the clouds

[00:55:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Right and he's had to like by hook or by crook get where he is today and he just goes

[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And Obi-Wan's just kind of like look there's something and I'm telling you some people are able to tap into it

[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I just love the way they talk about it. What I love is that

[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Over on the Death Star they blow up Alderan

[00:56:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Leia's home planet

[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_02]: They blow it up kind of as a way to get info out of her

[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_02]: But also she gives up the info before they blow up the planet or at least she gives up some info

[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of hard to tell whether it's true or not meaning peanuts. Yeah, yeah, that's fine. I've been doing it all episode

[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Um and also I give the peanuts movie 4.5 out of 10

[00:57:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I will never tell you she's like harry fisher. We didn't mention this. Yeah, daughter of debbie randall's

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, uh ghost writer of hook. I think she did pass on hook

[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Sure. Yeah, she did a pet aim. She wrote postcards from the edge

[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_02]: They think it's a moon which they're like holy shit. This thing is so big. They think it's a moon. It's crazy

[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_02]: It's huge. They get sucked on board

[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But using han solo's brilliant sneaking powers so fucking good

[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_02]: They managed to sort of infiltrate this death star

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the ship lands at like the the loading bay or whatever

[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_00]: They send a bunch of troopers in and they go like ships empty. I don't know what to tell you

[00:58:45] [SPEAKER_00]: They're hiding under the floorboards when everyone leaves knock out a couple storm troopers take their uniforms

[00:58:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Han and luke right are dressed as troopers

[00:58:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Are they I know I'm trying to remember are they just trying to deliver the plans?

[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Or are they trying to get leia because they find out about leia

[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_02]: No, they it's it's random because r2 just plugs into the computer and she's he's like the princess is here

[00:59:05] [SPEAKER_02]: And luke is like hey guess what let's go get her if you if we get the prince. He's like I don't care

[00:59:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a little bit of a hard on leia. No question. Which is weird

[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_00]: That's a weird move on george's part because they don't know because they've been raised apart

[01:00:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if this was obi-wan and quaggon or obi-wan and anakin they would be like uh-oh 80 dozen fucking

[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Here it's like like every situation is fraught. Mm-hmm. I love it and there's a lot of legitimately good banter

[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And then comes over the calm. Yeah goes like sir

[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: We saw a malfunction here and there and he goes uh no don't worry about it and they go

[01:00:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Should we send additional troops and he goes shoot? No, it's fine. It gets gas leak whatever and they keep on asking questions

[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: He shoots it and he goes bad conversation anyway. Let Lawrence cast and call that his favorite

[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_02]: It's the best piece of dialogue in the whole movies. It's the best. Um, but they find leia

[01:01:01] [SPEAKER_02]: They find leia leia love her. She's like who are you dweebs this sucks you guys these two

[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_00]: This is who rescues me you're like immediately subverting the trope of like

[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the princess in the high tower who has to be rescued by the night

[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: You know she like leads them into a garbage compactor to get away from things. She waste no time to pick up a blaster

[01:01:20] [SPEAKER_02]: There's this awesome scene in a garbage compactor with a monster talk about clear objectives

[01:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's great. They're in a garbage compactor. They got to get out of there

[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: R2d2 c3p are up on board and it's like can we get them to pack into the system?

[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Right and it take you know, they're almost crushed. Yeah, it's cool. Yeah, she was with them too

[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because they pretend he's their prisoner. That's kind of cool. Now the han and leia dynamic from the jump

[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's very early. It's really funny. They're firecrackers. They're so good. You see that tension just right from the start

[01:01:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I just love how how risky all of this is yeah, and how clear that is the whole time

[01:01:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, very clear stakes at every moment. What's the next objective? What's happening on the fringe of this vader hanging out on the death star is like

[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Is obi one here? He's like literally he's getting like a ping

[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we want Kenobi that guy my old master and they're like no don't worry about it

[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: We check the sign in sheet the last guy was named old Ben Kenobi

[01:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: So no no concern. Tarkin's like the guest list has old Ben Kenobi Tarkin's like yeah

[01:02:23] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like I feel him and so the the paths kind of diverge at this point where

[01:02:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Obi-Wan Kenobi kind of like deactivates the tractor beam so they can escape right so you've got Luke Han and Leia escaping

[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_02]: And obi one locked in this final battle with Darth Vader. Darth Vader comes head to head. Yeah, and they it's mostly talking

[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because alakin is clearly no athlete, but they don't make him flubber around

[01:02:49] [SPEAKER_02]: But it's like they just have a few sword fighting. Yes just very very short simple strokes

[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Right because you know my old apprentice my master at this and that it's very vague

[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_02]: You would think anakin would say more things like how did you survive and like what's up, man? Like isn't this crazy?

[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big robot now. The last time they met was on mustafar. Yeah

[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean they keep on saying over the course of the movie anakin skywalk is your father. He died

[01:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: He was completely corrupted, you know, yeah, and they keep on talking about him in that way and it sort of feels like

[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Your surprise at Darth Vader doesn't have a stronger response to sing obi one

[01:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's also like that was a lifetime ago. Yeah, Vader doesn't have any feelings

[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_02]: He has to himself where he's like i feel something a presence i've not felt since dot dot dot the end we got it

[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_02]: They have a fight obi one in an act of sacrifice like just sort of puts his sword up gets his head chopped off

[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Vanishes into nothing this he doesn't get his head chopped off

[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like right he gets sort of struck down and then he just vanishes like a david copperfield trick

[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the the robe just falls to the floor and Vader like kicks his there's nothing there and he like hits it with his foot

[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: It feels like that deleted scene once again

[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Where yoda is talking a dead quigon

[01:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And some dude doing a temp track for quigon. Yeah. No, I know it's like I found a way

[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Universe there's a moment where obi one looks at luke before he struck and he sort of just holds a sword in front of him

[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: But it feels like he's not dying

[01:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And he says to Vader like I'll become something even more power and he just he just disappears

[01:05:03] [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't die. We've seen a lot of deaths in the star wars universe

[01:05:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's not dead because we hear his voice throughout the rest of the movie kind of nudging luke on

[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: He might have left this mortal coil, but like yeah, the voice is still echoing
