This week the BC crew discusses 2009’s 3D sci-fi epic Avatar. But are trees nature’s internet? Is this the ultimate cultural appropriation movie? Does the public need four more Avatar movies? Together they examine the performances of the cast including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi, breaking box office records, review the winners of the Academy Award for Best Cinematography over the last few years and argue about Coraline. Plus, another merchandise spotlight and announce the next new mini-series!

[00:00:32] We are hashtag the two friends
[00:00:33] This is a podcast where we go through filmographies of directors
[00:00:37] Who have early success and then get a series of blank checks to make whatever kind of projects they want
[00:00:42] Cinematically, sometimes those checks clear and sometimes they bounce baby
[00:00:46] Good job
[00:00:47] Thank you, rapid time
[00:00:49] This is a mini-series that we're doing on the films of the wettest filmmaker in America
[00:00:55] James Cameron
[00:00:56] He's so wet
[00:00:57] He's soaking wet
[00:00:58] The movie is not that wet
[00:01:00] No, but wet moments
[00:01:01] Couple wet moments
[00:01:02] Waterfall
[00:01:03] Yeah
[00:01:04] Uh, Mesares is called Podnator, Judgment Cast
[00:01:07] And it's over
[00:01:08] I mean we have a bonus episode next week but uh
[00:01:10] This is the last film
[00:01:11] We're at the end for it
[00:01:12] This is the last film so I mean you know, emotions are high
[00:01:15] His last feature
[00:01:17] This is his last
[00:01:18] To date
[00:01:19] To date
[00:01:20] He's still with us Jimmy C
[00:01:21] He is very much still with us in our hearts and our minds and also in his home
[00:01:25] Where he lives
[00:01:26] He's not with us in his home
[00:01:28] Today we're talking his biggest film ever
[00:01:31] Yeah
[00:01:32] And the biggest film ever
[00:01:34] It's a 2009 release nominated for I think seven Academy Awards
[00:01:39] No more than that I think
[00:01:40] Really?
[00:01:41] Look it up
[00:01:42] Well didn't get screenplayed, maybe eight Academy Awards
[00:01:44] Uh, highest grossing film in history
[00:01:47] Domestically it's been toppled worldwide
[00:01:49] Not adjusted for inflation
[00:01:50] Right, adjusted for inflation it's the fifth highest grossing film in history
[00:01:53] It was a hit
[00:01:54] Big hit
[00:01:55] Solid triple
[00:01:56] You know what's going on today
[00:01:57] We're talking tar
[00:01:58] Ladies and gentlemen, we're talking tar
[00:02:00] It's the avatar
[00:02:01] Nine Oscar nominations
[00:02:03] Hey, wow that's a lot
[00:02:05] Talking avatar
[00:02:06] Talking tar
[00:02:07] This is Tartock
[00:02:09] Tartock
[00:02:10] Uh, I would do a cartock joke
[00:02:12] But I don't actually know how to do one
[00:02:13] I know they were named Click and Clack
[00:02:14] And I know one of them is dead
[00:02:16] RIP
[00:02:17] I only know that because of the Disney Pixar Cars franchise
[00:02:20] In which they appear as characters
[00:02:21] And then I am on Pixar message boards
[00:02:24] Where they posted when one of them died
[00:02:26] Okay
[00:02:27] Okay
[00:02:29] Avatar
[00:02:30] Talking Tart
[00:02:31] We're gonna talk tar
[00:02:32] I mean you can't avoid it
[00:02:34] Well we're trying to
[00:02:36] We're going straight into it
[00:02:38] Avatar
[00:02:39] Influential movie
[00:02:41] Yeah
[00:02:42] Uh, 3D
[00:02:43] Sure
[00:02:44] So here's the thing with this movie
[00:02:46] Mocap
[00:02:47] This movie is in three dimensions
[00:02:49] A lot of movies in two
[00:02:51] Especially before this
[00:02:53] And then after this people were like
[00:02:55] Why don't you give me the D
[00:02:57] And they weren't talking about De Chanel
[00:02:59] They were talking about adding a third dimension
[00:03:01] On to their movie
[00:03:02] Why don't you give me the DDD
[00:03:04] They said give me another D
[00:03:05] Uh huh
[00:03:06] Then went Caleb and then went no not Caleb
[00:03:08] Wow, this is a bad callback
[00:03:10] Zoe Bones
[00:03:11] I don't like this callback
[00:03:12] You don't like giving them the D?
[00:03:14] It's alright
[00:03:15] I don't know you did it a little too much on one of the episodes
[00:03:18] We've let it rest
[00:03:19] Um, alright
[00:03:21] Avatar
[00:03:22] Three dimensions
[00:03:23] He's worked in three dimensions before
[00:03:25] As you heard in our fascinating captivating recap
[00:03:27] Of his two documentaries
[00:03:30] Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep
[00:03:31] We might have made a mistake by releasing this
[00:03:33] The week after
[00:03:34] Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep
[00:03:35] Because people are just too excited
[00:03:36] Yeah, and they need some time to recover
[00:03:38] I mean you gotta let
[00:03:39] People have to listen to that episode four or five times
[00:03:41] For it to really sink in
[00:03:42] Well yeah, and also you have to listen backwards
[00:03:44] I hope you guys listen backwards
[00:03:45] Cause there's tons of clues
[00:03:46] Right
[00:03:47] Clues and hints about Blank Jack
[00:03:48] Mystery box
[00:03:49] That is, you know
[00:03:50] We are constantly putting things into
[00:03:51] Right
[00:03:52] Which of course is that Ben is dead
[00:03:53] Oh no
[00:03:55] Listen backwards
[00:03:56] It's fine he's a ghost so we can talk to him
[00:03:57] Hey ghost Ben
[00:03:59] Whoa
[00:04:00] Good good good improv
[00:04:01] My ghost Ben?
[00:04:03] Yeah ghost Ben
[00:04:04] The ghost do sir
[00:04:05] Yeah
[00:04:06] Go do our Ben
[00:04:08] The ghost laureate
[00:04:09] Yep
[00:04:10] Mr. Ghostediv
[00:04:11] Okay
[00:04:12] The ghost
[00:04:13] Alright
[00:04:14] The ghost breaker
[00:04:16] Okay
[00:04:17] Birthday ghosty
[00:04:19] Professor ghost
[00:04:20] Ghosty Benny
[00:04:22] Ghosty Benny
[00:04:24] The spirit master
[00:04:25] The ghost master
[00:04:26] Zool
[00:04:28] Gozer
[00:04:29] Gozer the gozerian
[00:04:31] Slimeware
[00:04:32] Yeah that's right it's Ben
[00:04:33] The taxicab ghost
[00:04:34] It's Ben alright enough
[00:04:36] He's graduated to certain titles over the course of different miniseries
[00:04:38] Okay
[00:04:39] This is Kylo Ben producer Ben Kanovi
[00:04:40] Ben say Ben Nye trauma Lon
[00:04:42] And say Benny thing
[00:04:44] And we're gonna need a new one for him
[00:04:45] Oh we gotta come up with that by the end today
[00:04:47] By the end of today
[00:04:48] Well no no no we need it
[00:04:50] We need the new one for him by the start of the next miniseries
[00:04:53] He graduates at the end of the miniseries
[00:04:55] That's true that is how it's been in the past miniseries
[00:04:57] Okay fair enough
[00:04:58] And so and I don't even think we need it on the Ben's Choice episode
[00:05:01] But it'd be nice to do it there
[00:05:03] That's true
[00:05:04] It'd be nice to anoint him
[00:05:05] It's his choice
[00:05:06] Yeah with holy oils
[00:05:07] It's his big day
[00:05:08] It's his big day
[00:05:09] I don't I mean we haven't even talked what we're gonna watch
[00:05:12] But stay tuned
[00:05:14] And I'll say this
[00:05:15] You know
[00:05:17] Professor Crispy maybe just got an ally
[00:05:20] Oh no
[00:05:21] That's why you left that
[00:05:23] Oh my god
[00:05:24] Yeah actually I
[00:05:26] I oh there it is
[00:05:28] He was eating cheerios guys alright
[00:05:31] You can call me Dr. Crunchy
[00:05:32] It's a nice little intro five minutes
[00:05:35] Let's talk about Avatar
[00:05:36] You can call me Dr. Crunchy
[00:05:38] Avatar
[00:05:39] Crisp and Crunch
[00:05:40] A sci-fi original
[00:05:42] Tell me the folks this fall
[00:05:43] Real quick can I just say
[00:05:44] Anything
[00:05:45] That intro was very crunchy
[00:05:47] Thank you
[00:05:48] Not crispy
[00:05:49] No
[00:05:50] You are not ghost professor Crispy
[00:05:52] I'm not
[00:05:53] No one is
[00:05:54] I'm Dr. Crunchy
[00:05:55] Sure
[00:05:56] Avatar
[00:05:57] Yeah okay talking tar
[00:05:59] So it's uh you got
[00:06:00] You got James Cameron
[00:06:01] He's riding high
[00:06:02] Right
[00:06:03] He made Titanic
[00:06:04] Titanic
[00:06:05] Titanic
[00:06:06] It made
[00:06:07] It's a very spooky episode
[00:06:08] Titanic
[00:06:09] It made a few million bucks
[00:06:10] Yeah a couple
[00:06:11] It was seen as a hit
[00:06:12] Made a billion or two
[00:06:13] And so the studio
[00:06:15] Fox
[00:06:16] Uh-huh
[00:06:17] The studio wrote him another
[00:06:18] Blank check
[00:06:19] Yeah they said you can do
[00:06:20] Whatever you want
[00:06:22] It's the premise of our show
[00:06:23] Right and he said I'll take
[00:06:24] 12 years and then make a
[00:06:25] Sam Worthington movie
[00:06:26] I'll take 12 years and make like
[00:06:28] A you know
[00:06:29] Last of them ohikens meets
[00:06:31] Fern Gully meets like aliens
[00:06:34] You know 3D 3 hour epic
[00:06:37] For ya guys you into that
[00:06:38] So I saw this movie
[00:06:39] Who's the star Sam Worthington
[00:06:41] I don't know who he is
[00:06:42] Don't worry we've got Zoe Saldana too
[00:06:44] Do you think every day when they were like
[00:06:46] Watching cause I guess they didn't have like
[00:06:48] Conventional dailies on this movie
[00:06:49] Cause it was most of it's like mocap
[00:06:51] They must have had something though
[00:06:52] Do you think when Fox was watching footage
[00:06:54] They were like I mean we don't get
[00:06:56] Sam Worthington but I guess he
[00:06:57] Must be onto something
[00:06:58] Like especially since he like
[00:07:00] Popped Leo you know
[00:07:02] Yeah I mean I'm just deferred to him
[00:07:04] No but they were hot for
[00:07:06] They were hot for Sam right
[00:07:07] Hollywood was hot for Sam
[00:07:09] But Hollywood wasn't hot for Sam
[00:07:10] Until Cameron hired him
[00:07:12] I understand that
[00:07:13] The story is that Sam Worthington
[00:07:14] Was living in his car when he got Avatar
[00:07:16] I know I know
[00:07:17] And then after that everyone was like
[00:07:18] I guess he must see something
[00:07:20] Like I think everyone hired him
[00:07:21] Just off the strength of Cameron
[00:07:23] We're not gonna start with Sam
[00:07:25] We're gonna start with Avatar
[00:07:26] We'll get to Sam
[00:07:27] I think Sam is great in this movie
[00:07:28] Talking about seeing the movie for the first time
[00:07:30] Oh Avatar
[00:07:31] Yeah talking to her
[00:07:32] Well so there been some hype
[00:07:33] I don't know there's been a little bit
[00:07:34] Of chatter about James Cameron
[00:07:36] Making another movie
[00:07:37] He debuted that footage at Comic Con
[00:07:39] Yeah
[00:07:40] And I had seen some of that
[00:07:41] And I was like
[00:07:42] You know
[00:07:43] I think my expectations were kind of low
[00:07:45] Itch
[00:07:46] Right weren't yours
[00:07:47] It was one of those things
[00:07:48] I don't know
[00:07:49] We can talk about you
[00:07:50] I had a whole roller coaster which is
[00:07:51] I
[00:07:52] Love James Cameron
[00:07:53] Always with the roller coasters
[00:07:54] Was waiting
[00:07:55] They called me King Takah
[00:07:56] Cause I'm a roller coaster baby
[00:07:58] Do not
[00:07:59] They called me King Takah
[00:08:00] Everyone calls me King Takah
[00:08:01] Go on
[00:08:04] Wanted a new James Cameron movie
[00:08:06] Something fierce
[00:08:07] As did I
[00:08:08] As did everyone
[00:08:09] And it was always rumblings
[00:08:10] Oh 3D
[00:08:11] Oh Alien War
[00:08:12] Well I had seen
[00:08:13] People would say little things about it
[00:08:14] Coraline and 3D
[00:08:15] Yeah
[00:08:16] I'd maybe seen another thing
[00:08:17] I'd like seen a couple things with this
[00:08:18] New 3D technology
[00:08:19] Sure
[00:08:20] With the real D glasses
[00:08:21] The sort of easy little
[00:08:22] You know frames that we all
[00:08:24] Have to wear all the time now
[00:08:25] Coraline's the same year as Evercar
[00:08:27] I believe it's earlier in that year
[00:08:29] And I remember
[00:08:30] Like I wasn't like
[00:08:31] Oh I love this
[00:08:32] And I want 3D and everything
[00:08:34] But I was at least impressed
[00:08:35] With the 3D and Coraline
[00:08:36] It was cool
[00:08:37] Like it was you know
[00:08:38] It gave the movie like a weird
[00:08:39] Sort of you know
[00:08:40] Tactile vibe
[00:08:41] Like it was
[00:08:42] It was just
[00:08:43] It wasn't coming out at you
[00:08:44] Obnoxiously
[00:08:45] You could just be in the world
[00:08:46] A little more
[00:08:47] Cool
[00:08:48] Coraline I still think is
[00:08:49] The best use of 3D
[00:08:51] In a narrative feature
[00:08:52] No avatar
[00:08:53] Is the best use of it
[00:08:54] Coraline 100%
[00:08:55] No
[00:08:56] 100%
[00:08:57] Rider die JDM model
[00:08:58] Will back me up on this
[00:08:59] You guys are dumb animation freaks
[00:09:00] Being losers
[00:09:01] It's avatar
[00:09:02] Cool animation winners
[00:09:03] It's avatar
[00:09:04] Being awesome
[00:09:05] 10,000 years
[00:09:06] And it's Coraline
[00:09:07] And like Coraline is great
[00:09:08] Coraline is number one with a bullet
[00:09:09] No
[00:09:10] It's the only one that uses
[00:09:11] The 3D thematically
[00:09:12] For the movie
[00:09:13] That is wrong
[00:09:14] It is avatar
[00:09:15] Which uses the 3D thematically
[00:09:16] Incredibly well
[00:09:17] You're so wrong about it
[00:09:19] Coraline baby
[00:09:20] No
[00:09:21] You can watch Coraline right now
[00:09:22] In 2D
[00:09:23] And it's still
[00:09:24] Like 98%
[00:09:25] A great movie
[00:09:26] Not sure
[00:09:27] Not so with avatar
[00:09:28] I disagree on both counts
[00:09:29] Okay
[00:09:30] I was a freak for 3D
[00:09:32] Loved it
[00:09:33] When they started
[00:09:34] When they started re-releasing
[00:09:35] Things in 3D
[00:09:36] You're so wrong on this
[00:09:38] I'm really mad at you
[00:09:39] About 3D or Coraline
[00:09:40] About Coraline
[00:09:41] You're so wrong about that
[00:09:42] You're so wrong about this
[00:09:43] You're 100% wrong
[00:09:45] Then
[00:09:46] What's your take on Coraline?
[00:09:48] I don't know anything about Coraline
[00:09:50] Hell yeah
[00:09:51] So
[00:09:53] They're both good
[00:09:54] Oh yeah and you didn't see
[00:09:55] Avatar in theaters
[00:09:56] No
[00:09:57] They saw Avatar last night
[00:09:58] You just watched it for the first time
[00:09:59] At home
[00:10:00] Yeah
[00:10:02] My take away was
[00:10:05] This is a movie that
[00:10:06] I would
[00:10:07] I liked
[00:10:08] Because it's got all the things
[00:10:09] That I like about movies
[00:10:10] This is a real Ben movie
[00:10:11] This is a big time Ben movie
[00:10:13] This one was a
[00:10:14] I love 3D
[00:10:15] Okay
[00:10:16] When they started releasing
[00:10:17] Something in 3D
[00:10:18] Disney was sort of at the forefront
[00:10:19] What else have there been?
[00:10:20] Okay so they would
[00:10:21] Be doing these very limited
[00:10:22] Releases of like
[00:10:23] Chicken Little played in 3D
[00:10:24] A little bit
[00:10:25] Chicken Little
[00:10:26] And I went and saw Chicken Little
[00:10:27] Cause I was like
[00:10:28] New 3D
[00:10:29] Well there was the
[00:10:30] Rodriguez did
[00:10:31] Spy Kids 3D and Shark Boy and Lava Girl
[00:10:33] Right
[00:10:34] Was Spy Kids 3D with the
[00:10:35] Like the real
[00:10:36] Red and blue
[00:10:37] It was the red and blue
[00:10:38] Right
[00:10:39] I did not see Spy Kids 3D
[00:10:40] 3D was really good in that
[00:10:41] But it's with the
[00:10:42] Dumb colors and everything
[00:10:43] Right
[00:10:44] So I really liked
[00:10:45] The 3D in
[00:10:46] Spy Kids 3D
[00:10:47] And I was like
[00:10:48] I like this
[00:10:49] The idea of having
[00:10:50] 3D back
[00:10:51] And then Rodriguez
[00:10:52] Does Shark Boy and Lava Girl
[00:10:53] And then Disney
[00:10:54] Was starting to dip their toes
[00:10:55] Because Disney's usually on the forefront
[00:10:56] Of new technological
[00:10:57] Advancements
[00:10:58] So they released
[00:10:59] The 3D in 3D
[00:11:00] And they were doing
[00:11:01] Nightmare for Christmas
[00:11:02] I remember that
[00:11:03] That started in 2006
[00:11:04] Was like
[00:11:05] I believe 2005
[00:11:06] Was the 3D
[00:11:07] Re-release of Nightmare
[00:11:08] And like meet the Robins
[00:11:09] All these fucking
[00:11:10] Alright
[00:11:11] Enough
[00:11:12] I would go see any movie
[00:11:13] That was released in 3D
[00:11:14] Because I like 3D so much
[00:11:15] And at that point in time
[00:11:16] There was only like
[00:11:17] One movie in 3D per year
[00:11:18] And they were almost
[00:11:19] Always animated
[00:11:20] Yeah
[00:11:21] And they were good
[00:11:22] And then
[00:11:23] When
[00:11:24] You know
[00:11:25] I heard about
[00:11:26] Advertisers actually happening
[00:11:27] Like no fall starts
[00:11:28] I've been working on this
[00:11:29] And the Battle Angel movie
[00:11:30] Yeah
[00:11:31] And so I would always get
[00:11:32] The two mixed up in my head
[00:11:33] As to like what exactly
[00:11:34] And there's one of those things
[00:11:35] Like Star Trek came out
[00:11:36] A year earlier
[00:11:37] Or the same year
[00:11:38] Same year
[00:11:39] And you know
[00:11:40] You would see interviews
[00:11:41] With Zoe Saldana
[00:11:42] Like and they'd be like
[00:11:43] You're an avatar too
[00:11:44] And she's like
[00:11:45] Yeah
[00:11:46] I am
[00:11:47] I mean
[00:11:48] I filmed that a while ago
[00:11:49] But yeah
[00:11:50] I mean
[00:11:51] I don't know
[00:11:52] Like it sort of
[00:11:53] Baffled as us
[00:11:54] Well that's the big thing
[00:11:55] 2009
[00:11:56] Comic Con
[00:11:57] Anything from the movie
[00:11:58] There was nothing
[00:11:59] It was a huge mystery box
[00:12:00] And all you just knew was
[00:12:01] James Cameron
[00:12:02] 3D
[00:12:03] Alien War
[00:12:04] I remember that was
[00:12:05] All you'd hear
[00:12:06] Right
[00:12:07] And then 2009 it was like
[00:12:08] For the first time we're showing
[00:12:09] Images
[00:12:10] We're showing footage
[00:12:11] We're bringing the cast out
[00:12:12] Like everything
[00:12:13] Alright
[00:12:14] And I remember the initial boom
[00:12:15] Being like
[00:12:16] That seems a little disappointing
[00:12:17] Yeah people thought it looked dark
[00:12:18] I have to say
[00:12:19] Yeah I was so turned off
[00:12:20] By the 3D aspect of the film
[00:12:22] I was like
[00:12:23] I don't want to
[00:12:24] That seems cheap and stupid
[00:12:25] Well because people think
[00:12:26] Of the paper glasses
[00:12:28] And the red and the blue
[00:12:29] They think of cheap dorky 3D
[00:12:31] From going to the museums
[00:12:32] Exactly
[00:12:33] The design, the characters
[00:12:34] And the level of the effects
[00:12:35] I remember when they
[00:12:36] Because all you'd hear was just
[00:12:37] James Cameron's work
[00:12:38] And someone's going to
[00:12:39] Revolutionize everything
[00:12:40] And people would say
[00:12:41] I've seen a little bit of Avatar
[00:12:42] It's groundbreaking
[00:12:43] It's this and that
[00:12:44] And then people saw it
[00:12:45] And they were like
[00:12:46] It just looks like some CG movie
[00:12:47] A Blue Alien
[00:12:48] Maybe
[00:12:49] There was some serious
[00:12:50] I remember there was
[00:12:51] A little dip after Comic Con
[00:12:52] But it was more like
[00:12:53] I think most of the people
[00:12:54] Who were at Comic Con
[00:12:55] I can tell you
[00:12:56] And I know a few people
[00:12:57] That was amazing
[00:12:59] But then there was backlash
[00:13:00] From the wider internet
[00:13:01] Well that's what I'd say
[00:13:02] I'd say the people who were there
[00:13:03] At Comic Con
[00:13:04] The wider internet
[00:13:05] But who cares about it
[00:13:06] Because I was kind of with them
[00:13:07] The people were there at Comic Con
[00:13:08] Said the presentation blew them away
[00:13:09] But then as the stuff
[00:13:10] Started getting online
[00:13:11] It was like the trailers
[00:13:12] Were kind of underwhelming
[00:13:13] I remember there being
[00:13:14] A little bit of a stink
[00:13:15] Of like
[00:13:16] Is he going to miss a little bit
[00:13:17] Yeah, he there was
[00:13:18] And the hype was more
[00:13:19] Like I got to give him
[00:13:20] Benefit and doubt
[00:13:21] But he didn't get it
[00:13:22] No, no
[00:13:23] I'm saying
[00:13:24] I'm not gonna get into the panic
[00:13:25] Where everyone was like
[00:13:26] I don't know
[00:13:27] This one, the console
[00:13:28] It looks like it's going to bomb
[00:13:29] I don't know why he's
[00:13:30] Like doing this kind of a story
[00:13:31] With this kind of technology
[00:13:32] Like
[00:13:33] And then it comes out
[00:13:35] Opens fine
[00:13:36] Both in both cases
[00:13:37] Strong
[00:13:38] Yeah
[00:13:39] And people are like
[00:13:40] Oh, well
[00:13:41] It's going to have to multiply
[00:13:42] Yeah, if you put a usual multiplier
[00:13:44] On that
[00:13:45] This is a huge disappointment
[00:13:46] And then of course
[00:13:47] In both cases
[00:13:48] Breaks the mold
[00:13:49] I went to see it
[00:13:50] Opening night
[00:13:51] At the IMAX 3D
[00:13:52] Sure
[00:13:53] I remember right before the movie
[00:13:54] Ended tweeting like
[00:13:55] James Caren, please don't let me down
[00:13:56] Like I had that feeling
[00:13:57] Of like just let me
[00:13:58] Like this movie
[00:13:59] Yeah
[00:14:00] And I did
[00:14:01] And I saw two more times in theaters
[00:14:03] Yeah
[00:14:04] I bought the 3Ds DVD
[00:14:05] The Blu-ray
[00:14:06] And I have not watched it since
[00:14:07] I saw it three times in 2009
[00:14:09] You hadn't watched it since
[00:14:10] Hadn't watched it again since last time
[00:14:11] So last time was the first time
[00:14:12] I watched it at home
[00:14:13] First time I've watched it in 2D
[00:14:14] Okay, all right
[00:14:15] We'll get to you
[00:14:16] We'll get to you
[00:14:17] All right
[00:14:18] We'll get to your DVD experience
[00:14:19] Wait, Blu-ray
[00:14:20] DVD or Blu-ray
[00:14:21] Blu's got to go Blu
[00:14:22] It's a good Blu
[00:14:23] Yeah, it's a good Blu
[00:14:24] He doesn't want to fuck up the Blu
[00:14:25] The 3Ds go
[00:14:26] It's a good Blu
[00:14:27] Yeah, the one that's in this sort of
[00:14:28] You know, little box
[00:14:29] And it's got like this sort of
[00:14:30] Folders that you pull the disney
[00:14:32] Yeah, I like it
[00:14:33] So you saw it opening night
[00:14:34] Saw it opening night
[00:14:35] With my girlfriend at the time
[00:14:37] I think in my brother
[00:14:38] Double Humber Ray
[00:14:39] My brother and my brother
[00:14:40] Yeah, double Humber Ray
[00:14:41] I have a brother
[00:14:42] And I remember my brother
[00:14:44] Who is a bit of a snarky little boy
[00:14:46] And I shouldn't call him a little boy
[00:14:48] Joey C Sims
[00:14:49] Very patronizing
[00:14:50] Yeah, Joey C Sims
[00:14:51] My brother, especially at that time
[00:14:53] A little snarky a little like
[00:14:55] It was kind of like
[00:14:56] I was just like
[00:14:57] Yep, that was amazing
[00:14:59] That was the best
[00:15:00] That's exactly what I wanted
[00:15:01] The action especially
[00:15:02] Like you know, that last hour of Avatar
[00:15:04] Yeah
[00:15:05] It was fucking fantastic
[00:15:06] I saw it a couple more times in theaters
[00:15:08] I flew to London
[00:15:10] In like April of the next year
[00:15:12] So like a few months later
[00:15:13] Avatar was on the plane
[00:15:14] I watched it both ways
[00:15:16] That's cool
[00:15:17] I bought the DVD
[00:15:19] Like the crappy DVD
[00:15:20] When it came out
[00:15:21] No, my brother got it for me actually
[00:15:22] I think it's a sort of goki present
[00:15:24] And I watched that maybe once or twice
[00:15:27] And then yeah, I got the blue right
[00:15:28] The big one
[00:15:29] I've watched that
[00:15:30] I've seen it like eight or nine times
[00:15:31] Yeah, okay
[00:15:32] So I love it
[00:15:33] I had seen it since I was nine
[00:15:34] But was a big defender of it
[00:15:35] I mean, I don't know if it like
[00:15:37] I was trying to think back to
[00:15:39] If it would have made my top ten
[00:15:41] For that year
[00:15:42] Like I liked it a lot
[00:15:43] I wanted to mix mine
[00:15:44] I was really into seeing it
[00:15:46] Theatrically
[00:15:47] And I was like, you know
[00:15:48] When there was sort of an immediate backlash
[00:15:51] The movie was always operating on two levels
[00:15:53] It was such a, yeah
[00:15:55] Swing toward, you know
[00:15:56] It was like
[00:15:57] And there were like multiple backlashes at once
[00:15:59] Like, because there was kind of
[00:16:00] Oh, what were the backlashes?
[00:16:01] Well, you know
[00:16:02] It's dumb
[00:16:03] Yeah, it's dumb
[00:16:04] People were like, it's dumb
[00:16:05] Why is everyone like this?
[00:16:06] It's dumb
[00:16:07] And then everyone just
[00:16:08] Doesn't quite make my top ten for that year
[00:16:09] But that is an extremely good year
[00:16:10] That was a good year
[00:16:11] Yeah, that's what I was going to say
[00:16:12] That was a really good year
[00:16:13] Fuck, look at this
[00:16:14] This is a great like
[00:16:15] You got Coraline
[00:16:16] Coraline
[00:16:17] Coraline, yeah
[00:16:18] That's above it for me
[00:16:19] Yeah, yeah
[00:16:20] Love that movie
[00:16:21] Yeah, especially because he used to do it three days
[00:16:22] Ponyo came out that year
[00:16:23] Which is one of my favorite movies ever made
[00:16:25] Serious Man
[00:16:26] And Glorious Basters came out that year
[00:16:28] I think Glorious Basters
[00:16:29] Fertlocker
[00:16:30] Was my two
[00:16:31] Sugar was my number one maybe
[00:16:32] Sugar's in my top twenty
[00:16:33] I love sugar
[00:16:34] Star Trek, which I adore
[00:16:35] Bright Star
[00:16:36] Which is my number one of that year
[00:16:37] Oh, right
[00:16:38] One of the greatest movies
[00:16:39] Yeah
[00:16:40] House of the Dead
[00:16:41] Which is, sorry
[00:16:42] House of the Devil
[00:16:43] Which is such a cool movie
[00:16:44] Summer Hours
[00:16:45] The SIS
[00:16:46] I've never seen that one
[00:16:47] See it
[00:16:48] Oh, it's In the Loop
[00:16:50] Yeah, see, you know
[00:16:51] Public enemies
[00:16:52] Public enemies I love
[00:16:53] Fantastic
[00:16:54] You know like In the Loop
[00:16:55] You're an idiot
[00:16:56] I know, I've never really gone
[00:16:57] And like a lot of cool little movies
[00:16:59] Like Fish Tank, Moon
[00:17:00] Yeah, I like a lot of these
[00:17:02] Good year
[00:17:03] But yeah, it just sort of
[00:17:05] Immediately came out
[00:17:07] Did well the first weekend
[00:17:08] But not crazy well
[00:17:09] The second weekend had no drop
[00:17:10] And then it was so clear
[00:17:11] We'll get to the box
[00:17:12] But I'm saying it was
[00:17:13] So clear that it was going to be
[00:17:14] Another Titanic
[00:17:15] And then it came out
[00:17:16] After a few weeks
[00:17:17] It came out late enough in December
[00:17:18] That there was no like
[00:17:20] Oscar campaign
[00:17:21] It was like the second it was released
[00:17:22] Everyone was like
[00:17:23] Okay, it's going to get nominated
[00:17:24] For nine Oscars
[00:17:25] And then it got nominated
[00:17:26] Like three weeks later
[00:17:27] You know
[00:17:28] Because it was the end of the year
[00:17:29] Yeah
[00:17:30] No one had seen it
[00:17:31] Like before it came out
[00:17:32] It briefly looked like a winner
[00:17:33] I think at the time of the nominations
[00:17:35] Everyone thought it was going to win
[00:17:36] They at least thought like
[00:17:38] It was one of these things
[00:17:39] Where it was against the Hurt Locker
[00:17:40] Which had not made a ton of money
[00:17:41] But was so universally acclaimed
[00:17:42] And it was, yeah
[00:17:43] It was like
[00:17:44] Maybe this will knock it off
[00:17:45] And the fact that they were Xs
[00:17:46] Like was such a good narrative
[00:17:47] It was a cool narrative
[00:17:48] And then it swung back around
[00:17:49] To Hurt Locker
[00:17:50] As the sort of
[00:17:51] You know people got a little sick
[00:17:52] Of all Avatar all the time
[00:17:53] Yeah, I mean the Hurt Locker
[00:17:54] PR team did an amazing job
[00:17:56] The second after the nominations
[00:17:57] Came out being like
[00:17:58] I mean who do you want to vote for
[00:17:59] David or Goliath
[00:18:00] Right
[00:18:01] You know and making it seem like
[00:18:02] What is this movie
[00:18:03] And also he had an Oscar
[00:18:04] And like a woman had never won
[00:18:05] Best Director
[00:18:06] I think it's when we have all time
[00:18:07] This movie doesn't need Oscars
[00:18:08] I think a lot of people thought
[00:18:09] Maybe Avatar would win picture
[00:18:10] Big load win director
[00:18:11] Anyway
[00:18:12] Oscars aside
[00:18:13] But the backlash was sort of like
[00:18:14] Is this movie over hyped
[00:18:15] And then some people were coming in
[00:18:16] Going like this movie is under hyped
[00:18:17] And it was this weird movie
[00:18:18] That was always a fight
[00:18:19] When in the end of the day
[00:18:20] It was just like good solid movie
[00:18:21] And also I think a lot of movie
[00:18:23] It's like a movie
[00:18:24] Yeah
[00:18:25] Wait at the end of the day
[00:18:26] I can't remember
[00:18:27] Over hyped, under hyped
[00:18:29] Good solid movie
[00:18:30] Professor Crunchy
[00:18:32] Doctor Crunchy
[00:18:34] Don't call me Professor Crunchy
[00:18:36] And now of course he's working
[00:18:37] On these sequels
[00:18:38] Right
[00:18:39] Which once again
[00:18:40] Much like the creation of
[00:18:42] Avatar
[00:18:43] You're like
[00:18:44] Well that seems like the wrong decision
[00:18:45] That seems totally stupid
[00:18:47] Yeah
[00:18:48] Don't do that
[00:18:49] I guess you know
[00:18:50] Maybe it'll work out again
[00:18:52] Like I mean that's
[00:18:53] What else can you say
[00:18:54] As you always say
[00:18:55] I mean James Cameron
[00:18:56] Tells me I want five Avatar movies
[00:18:58] Then I want five Avatar movies
[00:18:59] Your favorite quote of mine
[00:19:00] Let's go through the story of the film
[00:19:01] And then get to at the end
[00:19:02] Like sort of sequel talk
[00:19:03] Because I have a lot of thoughts
[00:19:04] On about what the sequels could be
[00:19:05] And how I feel about them
[00:19:06] Okay so this movie starts out
[00:19:08] You watched the theatrical version
[00:19:10] Right
[00:19:11] I did
[00:19:12] I've seen the extended versions
[00:19:13] I think they're both very bad
[00:19:15] I think all the additions
[00:19:16] Saved maybe one scene are really bad
[00:19:19] And I think he made the right call
[00:19:20] With the theatrical cut
[00:19:21] I didn't watch the theatrical cut
[00:19:22] I watched the extended
[00:19:23] I know you did
[00:19:24] Yeah
[00:19:25] You're saying you thought
[00:19:26] He made the right call
[00:19:27] Jamie
[00:19:28] I thought you said
[00:19:29] I made the right call
[00:19:30] Like the theatrical cut
[00:19:31] Is the correct cut of the film
[00:19:32] On real
[00:19:33] I think all the mentions at the school
[00:19:34] Are added weight to the film
[00:19:36] I think the rest of the stuff
[00:19:37] Doesn't really matter
[00:19:38] But I also think
[00:19:39] I think the rest of the stuff
[00:19:40] Is not good
[00:19:41] I also because I hadn't seen it
[00:19:42] In like seven years
[00:19:43] Right
[00:19:44] I was having a hard time
[00:19:45] Remembering what was
[00:19:46] Or wasn't in the theatrical
[00:19:47] I can tell you
[00:19:48] I'm sure you can
[00:19:49] And that's why I'm setting this up
[00:19:50] Because I think it is important
[00:19:51] To cover the stuff he adds
[00:19:52] Even if not in-depth
[00:19:54] Not certainly not in-depth
[00:19:56] The theatrical version
[00:19:57] Opens with him opening his eyes
[00:19:59] And being pulled out
[00:20:00] Of like a chamber
[00:20:01] Weightless in a space thing
[00:20:02] And through a lot of clunky
[00:20:03] Like very fast
[00:20:04] Expositional voiceover
[00:20:06] Just being like
[00:20:07] It is clunky
[00:20:08] It's very clunky
[00:20:09] But it's fast
[00:20:10] The first 15 minutes
[00:20:11] He gets you into the avatar
[00:20:13] Pretty quickly
[00:20:14] For a movie that has to explain
[00:20:15] A lot
[00:20:16] That's what I was going to say
[00:20:17] Because even in the
[00:20:19] Extended version
[00:20:20] Which has a full five minutes
[00:20:22] On earth
[00:20:23] Like present
[00:20:24] You know set in real time scenes
[00:20:26] Before
[00:20:28] It even gets to the opening
[00:20:29] Of what
[00:20:30] The theatrical version opens with
[00:20:32] That version still gets him
[00:20:33] In the avatar within 15 minutes
[00:20:35] Right
[00:20:36] Which means
[00:20:37] The theatrical gets him in within 10
[00:20:39] I think you're right
[00:20:40] Because it's just like
[00:20:41] He wakes up on the space station
[00:20:43] You have those brief flashbacks
[00:20:44] To his twin brother being dead
[00:20:46] And then he's like
[00:20:48] Here's Prometheus
[00:20:49] I mean not Prometheus
[00:20:50] Pandora
[00:20:51] Right and there's like the five minutes of like
[00:20:53] And he meets a
[00:20:54] Sigourney Weaver
[00:20:55] Negging him
[00:20:56] Yes, Sigourney
[00:20:57] Sigourney next
[00:20:58] She comes out of the pod
[00:20:59] Being like where's my god damn cigarette
[00:21:01] This is cool
[00:21:02] She's great
[00:21:03] Oh I love that part
[00:21:04] Great in this movie
[00:21:05] I love lab smoking
[00:21:07] She's real hammy
[00:21:08] And just what the movie needs I think
[00:21:10] Everyone who's hamming it up
[00:21:11] Is doing a good job
[00:21:12] Yeah I think this is a weird instance
[00:21:15] Where I think the performances that don't work
[00:21:17] In this movie are people who are underacting
[00:21:19] Yeah trying to be more natural
[00:21:21] Yeah
[00:21:22] And although actually
[00:21:24] I don't think any performances
[00:21:25] I think all the performances are solid
[00:21:26] In this movie
[00:21:27] Worthington
[00:21:28] Yeah totally
[00:21:29] I'm gonna disagree with you hard on this
[00:21:30] As we get further
[00:21:31] I think he's great in this movie
[00:21:32] And it's one of those things where
[00:21:33] He you know has not delivered
[00:21:35] On any promise that he showed in this
[00:21:37] Or in Terminary Salvation
[00:21:38] Which is also okay
[00:21:39] I think this is the same performance
[00:21:40] He gives in every movie
[00:21:41] I think the performance plays better
[00:21:43] Because the movie around him is better
[00:21:44] Sure
[00:21:45] I think this movie would be a stone cold
[00:21:46] Masterpiece with a better performance
[00:21:48] In the center
[00:21:49] That's a hard thing to say
[00:21:50] Because I'd have to see it
[00:21:51] I think he's very winning
[00:21:52] He's very understated
[00:21:53] And he lets like the better things
[00:21:55] You know do their shit
[00:21:57] I think he's too understated
[00:21:58] And I think it's a
[00:21:59] I think he's great in the mocap
[00:22:01] Oh see that's where I disagree
[00:22:03] 100%
[00:22:04] Oh we just disagree
[00:22:05] That's where I disagree
[00:22:06] Because I think the mocap is
[00:22:08] The technology wasn't at a point
[00:22:10] He's so small and he's so subtle
[00:22:13] That so often it feels like
[00:22:14] He's just kind of unneutral
[00:22:15] Because he has to push through the mocap
[00:22:17] We disagree
[00:22:18] Whereas Saldana is giving a much more expressive
[00:22:20] The actual performance
[00:22:21] Which translates through the animation
[00:22:23] But she's supposed to be like that
[00:22:25] She's supposed to be
[00:22:26] Like a natural member of the world
[00:22:28] Whereas he's supposed to be
[00:22:29] Defensive and on guard
[00:22:30] And it works
[00:22:31] I think I compare it to
[00:22:33] Weaver in the mocap or any of that stuff
[00:22:35] I think he's
[00:22:36] Weaver's performance in the mocap is so weird
[00:22:38] Because the avatar looks so much like her
[00:22:40] That you're a little freaked out
[00:22:41] Which is the only one they do that with
[00:22:43] Yeah it's so uncanny valley
[00:22:45] They break the rules of the navide
[00:22:47] Design for Weaver
[00:22:48] Because everyone else has the really flat nose bridge
[00:22:50] And with her they do the little
[00:22:51] Sigourney Weaver nose
[00:22:52] Because they clearly wanted the audiences
[00:22:54] To feel comfortable with it
[00:22:55] What's the tall skinny guy called?
[00:22:56] No Spellman
[00:22:57] No the actor
[00:22:58] Joel David Moore
[00:22:59] Yeah his looks kind of like him
[00:23:01] His looks like him
[00:23:02] I mean but it's more
[00:23:03] Yes okay
[00:23:04] But it still abides by the rules of the navide design
[00:23:06] Okay we're moving on
[00:23:07] But yes you're right
[00:23:08] Sigourney is just a blue Sigourney
[00:23:10] They don't translate her facial features
[00:23:11] They just paint her blue
[00:23:12] Yeah
[00:23:13] So they get more shirt on her
[00:23:14] Yeah
[00:23:15] She's got the stand for sure
[00:23:16] Yeah she's got the stand for sure
[00:23:18] Yeah it would have been fun to see
[00:23:20] Them make like a Stephen Lange avatar right
[00:23:23] Yeah
[00:23:24] Maybe for the second one
[00:23:25] Ava 2
[00:23:26] Two-vatar
[00:23:27] The Leap Rau or Michelle Rodriguez
[00:23:29] Yeah
[00:23:30] Good little ensemble
[00:23:31] I like the whole cast
[00:23:32] I hope all the characters who die in this movie come back
[00:23:34] Is Navi and then I
[00:23:35] I'd really like Michelle Rodriguez to come back
[00:23:38] Me too
[00:23:39] Because I feel like the movie doesn't do her dirty
[00:23:40] She's great but I mean you know
[00:23:42] It's a small part
[00:23:43] They don't do her dirty
[00:23:44] But they also don't really let her do anything
[00:23:45] Until like the last 40 minutes
[00:23:46] But I mean she
[00:23:47] And she earns
[00:23:48] She owns it
[00:23:49] She's great
[00:23:50] When she
[00:23:51] Those few little things
[00:23:52] But the movie is banking a lot on
[00:23:53] You being like
[00:23:54] Oh Michelle Rodriguez
[00:23:55] I know her
[00:23:56] Which is a good call
[00:23:57] We're gonna hit the ground running
[00:23:58] Right
[00:23:59] They don't really characterize her at all
[00:24:01] Within the action of the movie
[00:24:02] No
[00:24:03] You just have to like know the type of
[00:24:05] Well also you just need a human or two
[00:24:07] To not be the worst
[00:24:09] And so it's nice to have her
[00:24:10] Yeah
[00:24:11] I just think this movie doesn't do as good of a job
[00:24:13] Sort of fleshing out the other humans
[00:24:16] As Cameron usually does
[00:24:18] I mean I agree with you if you're thinking aliens
[00:24:21] But I don't know if I agree with you on every other
[00:24:22] Even the Abyss I would say
[00:24:24] No we're out
[00:24:25] And even like the
[00:24:27] Not the Abyss
[00:24:28] I think so
[00:24:29] I think the Abyss does a better job
[00:24:30] I think
[00:24:31] Give me
[00:24:32] Alright
[00:24:33] No
[00:24:34] I think mouse guy is more fleshed out
[00:24:37] Than Trudy Shackon
[00:24:38] No he's not
[00:24:39] Mouse guy's not
[00:24:40] He just has a mouse
[00:24:41] So you're like hey he's got a mouse
[00:24:42] That's a thing
[00:24:43] That's the guy with the mouse
[00:24:44] He's got a thing it's a mouse thing
[00:24:45] What's his character
[00:24:46] He likes his mouse
[00:24:47] Anything else
[00:24:48] That mouse though
[00:24:49] But look
[00:24:50] Yes that mouse though
[00:24:51] But also when you look at Trudy
[00:24:52] The Michelle Rodriguez character
[00:24:54] She's like
[00:24:55] I'm assuming I answer questions
[00:24:56] Does she like mice
[00:24:57] Does she have one
[00:24:58] You don't know anything about her
[00:24:59] She likes tank tops
[00:25:01] And sunglasses
[00:25:02] Yeah
[00:25:03] And
[00:25:04] She was in like for the Fast and Furious movies
[00:25:06] Go to the Improv
[00:25:07] Go to the Improv
[00:25:08] The steak
[00:25:09] Steak Improv
[00:25:10] Little Improv
[00:25:11] Yeah that's good
[00:25:12] Fun fact about Michelle Rodriguez
[00:25:14] Never on a loyalty
[00:25:15] Yep
[00:25:16] I'm sorry I beat you to that joke
[00:25:17] I'm gonna give you the ten comedy points
[00:25:19] Oh thank you
[00:25:20] Okay so Avatar
[00:25:21] Gets into it fast
[00:25:22] Do you like the additional scenes in the beginning
[00:25:24] No I was gonna say
[00:25:25] I think the earth scenes are terrible
[00:25:26] I think they're the worst edition
[00:25:27] I think get out of that
[00:25:28] You know just get out of it as quick as possible
[00:25:30] He made the right call just being like
[00:25:31] Yes you need this clunky voiceover
[00:25:33] But we just gotta get through this real fast
[00:25:35] Well that's it's a very utilitarian movie
[00:25:37] In a certain
[00:25:38] Utilitarian movie in a way
[00:25:40] Because
[00:25:41] Basic storytelling
[00:25:43] Like rules would tell you
[00:25:44] You need to ground the audience
[00:25:46] In the real person
[00:25:47] In the real world
[00:25:48] Before you get to the crazy stuff
[00:25:49] Sure
[00:25:50] And you need to have some characterization
[00:25:51] Before he's thrown into it
[00:25:52] So we know who he is
[00:25:53] Before the circumstance
[00:25:54] But I hate that hacky crap
[00:25:55] First off
[00:25:56] The first five minutes are just really poorly directed
[00:25:58] They're really ham-fisted
[00:26:00] I think they feel tonally off
[00:26:02] They look shitty
[00:26:03] The future earth isn't as well realized
[00:26:05] As any of the other stuff he has
[00:26:06] Oh you're saying in the added scenes
[00:26:08] In the added scenes
[00:26:09] It's not very well
[00:26:10] You know
[00:26:11] You come to shit for a reason
[00:26:13] Right it's bad
[00:26:14] And then also it is
[00:26:15] You have so much stuff to set up
[00:26:16] Where it's like
[00:26:17] Okay so if you were gonna go through
[00:26:18] The channels of
[00:26:19] Here's Jake Sully
[00:26:21] On earth
[00:26:22] And this is what it's like
[00:26:23] On the spaceship
[00:26:24] Before he gets into the Navi body
[00:26:26] And then the Navi body
[00:26:27] And none of the other stuff matters
[00:26:28] The only thing that matters is Pandora
[00:26:30] And the Avatar
[00:26:31] Get him in the Navi
[00:26:32] The two things you need to get
[00:26:33] Are what is Pandora
[00:26:34] And you get Stephen Lang
[00:26:35] Obviously giving again a clunky
[00:26:37] Very clunky but
[00:26:39] Cute-ish
[00:26:40] You know sort of like
[00:26:41] I'm the military man
[00:26:42] And here's Pandora for ya
[00:26:44] He's getting through it
[00:26:45] I mean it's almost like
[00:26:46] He's getting through it
[00:26:47] And then the avatar shit
[00:26:48] You know this is an avatar
[00:26:49] It's you
[00:26:50] And then your brother
[00:26:51] twin brother genome
[00:26:52] Whatever so you can go in it
[00:26:54] The first hour of this movie
[00:26:55] Is like orientation week
[00:26:57] We just need to set up
[00:26:58] Where everything is
[00:26:59] Yeah basically well it's like multiple orientations
[00:27:01] You got that orientation
[00:27:02] Then you have like
[00:27:03] Scientist orientation
[00:27:04] And then you have Navi
[00:27:05] Like you know or yeah
[00:27:06] That's why I said orientation week
[00:27:08] Cause when you go to college
[00:27:09] It's like oh today
[00:27:10] You're gonna focus on this sort of thing
[00:27:12] In England
[00:27:13] You call it fresher week
[00:27:14] Oh okay so it's like fresher week
[00:27:16] Yes
[00:27:17] Are you happy?
[00:27:19] Yes
[00:27:20] Okay so talking tar
[00:27:21] Yes
[00:27:22] Gets up there
[00:27:23] They go oh your brother
[00:27:25] He was a hero he died
[00:27:26] Paper in his pocket
[00:27:27] We had all this money invested in him
[00:27:29] Sure pays good
[00:27:30] We made this tar
[00:27:32] In his likeness
[00:27:33] It's really expensive
[00:27:34] You're the only one
[00:27:35] Who can operate the tar
[00:27:36] Cause you're a twin
[00:27:37] Guess what you don't have legs
[00:27:39] You got
[00:27:40] You got crippled legs right
[00:27:42] Crippled legs
[00:27:43] Right he's got these skin
[00:27:44] Little legs
[00:27:45] And he's in a wheelchair
[00:27:46] And they're like we could give you this opportunity
[00:27:48] You go up to space
[00:27:49] You get to walk again
[00:27:50] Long blue legs
[00:27:51] He's like okay sign me up
[00:27:53] Although I do like that the movie doesn't make it
[00:27:55] Really clear
[00:27:56] That part of the appeal might be
[00:27:58] That he gets to walk around in this avatar
[00:28:00] Until he's in the avatar
[00:28:01] Yeah
[00:28:02] And then they're like oh yeah
[00:28:03] They don't oversell it
[00:28:04] They don't oversell it
[00:28:05] Gets up into space
[00:28:06] Everyone's like who the fuck is this guy
[00:28:08] We've all trained for years
[00:28:09] No no no we're moving past it
[00:28:10] They put him in the tar
[00:28:11] Yeah
[00:28:12] He starts walking
[00:28:13] He's freaking out
[00:28:14] Immediately is he's good at it
[00:28:16] Or wherever
[00:28:17] He's a good driver of this alien body
[00:28:19] That they've made for him
[00:28:21] He's the chosen one
[00:28:23] Yeah
[00:28:24] For real
[00:28:25] And you know why
[00:28:26] Cause little fluff ball
[00:28:28] Little fluffies land on him
[00:28:29] Little fluffies
[00:28:30] Little fluff
[00:28:31] Little fluff
[00:28:32] Little toss of fluff
[00:28:33] Little toss of fluff
[00:28:34] Tough fluff
[00:28:35] Spoof and a go
[00:28:36] Just tough
[00:28:37] Thank you I appreciate it
[00:28:38] We're the two friends
[00:28:39] So you got
[00:28:40] You got
[00:28:41] You got
[00:28:42] Immediately what I do like about it
[00:28:43] Is it lays out
[00:28:44] Alright you have a military element here
[00:28:46] That's what I was going to say
[00:28:47] Yeah
[00:28:48] You know and they're civilian
[00:28:49] I mean they're private contractors
[00:28:50] So they're especially fucked up people
[00:28:52] Right
[00:28:53] The RDA
[00:28:54] Yeah they're just people who want to
[00:28:55] Shoot things
[00:28:56] They want an obtainium
[00:28:57] Then you've got the
[00:28:58] Yeah the business interest
[00:28:59] Yeah
[00:29:00] Which they want this
[00:29:01] You know
[00:29:02] You're by the RBC
[00:29:03] Who I think is having a blast
[00:29:04] I think probably the best performance
[00:29:05] He's just a lot of fun
[00:29:07] He's just a lot of fun
[00:29:08] He's just a lot of fun
[00:29:09] I think Salt Donna is easily the best
[00:29:11] Oh I for
[00:29:12] Yes
[00:29:13] I think he's great
[00:29:14] But RBC rules
[00:29:15] I mean like especially because
[00:29:16] He's got maybe the stupidest thing to do
[00:29:19] Which is to
[00:29:20] Explain to Sir Gornie Weaver something
[00:29:22] That obviously her character would
[00:29:23] Be fully aware of
[00:29:24] Which is that they are
[00:29:25] Mining an obtainium
[00:29:26] He has to say unobtainium
[00:29:28] He has to like
[00:29:29] You know take her over to his
[00:29:30] Weird little desk and
[00:29:31] Pick it up
[00:29:32] But he makes this great character
[00:29:33] Choice which is
[00:29:34] He's the one who saddles
[00:29:35] With so much clunky exposition
[00:29:36] And sort of plot building stuff
[00:29:38] And he's
[00:29:39] Makes the character choice
[00:29:40] Of this guy is tired
[00:29:41] Of explaining this stuff
[00:29:42] Yes oh god
[00:29:43] Which makes it funny
[00:29:44] Because all the exposition
[00:29:45] He's like look you know
[00:29:46] We have to go this plan
[00:29:47] And get unobtainium
[00:29:48] He's got that kind of high voice
[00:29:49] We gotta go and get the unobtainium
[00:29:51] There's the moment
[00:29:52] We're only half a one
[00:29:53] Oh no of course
[00:29:54] Which is the best moment in
[00:29:55] The entire film
[00:29:56] The bit where he's like
[00:29:57] Alright come on scroll scroll scroll
[00:29:58] You know he's like trying
[00:29:59] To make the camera move
[00:30:00] On his computer
[00:30:01] He's like Mike can you do that
[00:30:02] No Mike
[00:30:03] Too far too far
[00:30:04] Too far too far
[00:30:05] Too far too far
[00:30:06] She's a Christ
[00:30:07] I love tech not quite working
[00:30:08] Yeah it's great
[00:30:09] But yeah the three factions are
[00:30:10] Unobtainium right
[00:30:11] Which everyone always slams Cameron
[00:30:12] For like that's so clunky
[00:30:14] It's a real scientific term
[00:30:16] Yeah it's a weird example
[00:30:17] Of like real life being
[00:30:19] Written like a James Cameron movie
[00:30:21] And seeming to on the nose
[00:30:22] But umptanium is like an actual thing
[00:30:24] It's a scientific sort of
[00:30:26] Joke
[00:30:27] Name four elements that they can't define
[00:30:29] Exactly you know
[00:30:30] Or like some sort of like
[00:30:32] If you wanted one day to
[00:30:34] You know power a warp drive
[00:30:35] Maybe you could do that with
[00:30:36] Unobtainium
[00:30:37] This magic element with this
[00:30:38] It would somehow possess this property
[00:30:40] I don't know whatever
[00:30:41] They never say what the value of it is
[00:30:43] No they don't
[00:30:44] Which I like
[00:30:45] I kinda like to
[00:30:46] But that's what he wants right
[00:30:47] They hire this military group
[00:30:49] To try to
[00:30:51] Oh wait I have a question
[00:30:52] So in music when you sell a bunch of albums
[00:30:55] Is like past platinum
[00:30:57] You go unobtainium
[00:30:59] I'm now looking up unobtainium
[00:31:01] On the Avatar Wiki
[00:31:02] To see what it actually does
[00:31:03] Thriller, thriller went unobtainium
[00:31:05] Did
[00:31:07] It was just floating
[00:31:08] And Giovanni Robisi was just hitting it
[00:31:10] Um
[00:31:11] They need
[00:31:12] I mean as you can kinda pick up from the movie
[00:31:14] Yeah
[00:31:15] Like it's necessary on earth
[00:31:16] Because earth has become such a kinda crappy
[00:31:19] Uh
[00:31:20] Like over mined
[00:31:21] Over
[00:31:22] It looks really shitty
[00:31:23] World
[00:31:24] That like unobtainium is this
[00:31:26] I don't know it's this thing
[00:31:27] Something we need
[00:31:28] It floats
[00:31:29] It floats he gives a shit
[00:31:30] But the idea is that
[00:31:32] I mean as Robisi says
[00:31:33] It's the character of the stick
[00:31:34] They want the unobtainium
[00:31:35] They've hired two different companies
[00:31:37] To try different approaches to getting it
[00:31:39] So one is
[00:31:40] Weaver
[00:31:41] Who's gonna be nice
[00:31:42] You know
[00:31:43] Yeah so Bernie Weaver's character
[00:31:44] Whose name is
[00:31:45] Dr. Grace Augustine
[00:31:47] And her
[00:31:48] Uh
[00:31:49] Interesting
[00:31:50] You know diplomacy
[00:31:51] You know
[00:31:52] Sort of
[00:31:53] The idea of whatever
[00:31:54] Like bring
[00:31:55] Like westernization
[00:31:56] Right you know
[00:31:57] It's also a flawed idea
[00:31:58] Sure
[00:31:59] Which I like that the movie
[00:32:00] But then she has her own
[00:32:02] Vested interest in it
[00:32:03] Which is that she's a scientist
[00:32:04] So she's interested in exploring this other culture
[00:32:06] And their fauna
[00:32:07] And their flora
[00:32:08] And all of this sort of shit
[00:32:09] She's a cosmic botanist
[00:32:11] Right she wants to teach them
[00:32:13] So that she can be the one on the forefront
[00:32:15] She's the Jane Goodall
[00:32:17] Of Navi
[00:32:18] What she's trying to be
[00:32:19] Grilla is in the midst
[00:32:20] Tar's in the midst
[00:32:21] But
[00:32:23] She's been trying to go about it the friendly way
[00:32:25] Diplomacy
[00:32:26] Build a bridge
[00:32:27] Get them to give us some unobtainium
[00:32:29] For what
[00:32:30] That's what they can't figure out
[00:32:31] Then if you don't want anything
[00:32:32] Right
[00:32:33] You don't want to fuck money
[00:32:34] No they're cool
[00:32:35] Paper in your pocket fuck that
[00:32:37] You want a vet
[00:32:38] Vet gets you wet
[00:32:39] They go no we've seen true lies
[00:32:40] That guy's a piece of shit
[00:32:41] Well and like
[00:32:42] There's this
[00:32:43] Sure there's this ongoing idea
[00:32:45] That the world
[00:32:47] The moon of Pandora
[00:32:48] That they live on
[00:32:49] Is in this like nice balanced
[00:32:51] Harmonic state
[00:32:52] Everything kind of works
[00:32:53] And they're like
[00:32:54] As it should
[00:32:55] If it ain't fixed don't break it
[00:32:56] And they respect that
[00:32:57] If it ain't broke don't fix it
[00:32:58] Exactly
[00:32:59] If it ain't fixed don't break it
[00:33:00] And so
[00:33:01] If it ain't tar don't have
[00:33:02] The humans are messing with that
[00:33:03] They don't need computers
[00:33:04] They've got trees
[00:33:05] They plug into
[00:33:06] That's right
[00:33:07] They do
[00:33:08] Trees
[00:33:09] Nature's internet
[00:33:10] So then
[00:33:12] And then so then you've got the military guys
[00:33:14] And they're sort of like
[00:33:15] The stick
[00:33:16] Well just you know
[00:33:17] I mean be ready
[00:33:18] Because we might need to fight them
[00:33:19] And what their vested interest in this
[00:33:20] Is they love fighting shit
[00:33:21] Sure they like to point and shoot
[00:33:23] They're big big gun war people
[00:33:25] And so they'd love to
[00:33:26] Have a good gun war
[00:33:27] You know they have power suits
[00:33:29] They have like mix
[00:33:30] Yeah they got power loaders
[00:33:31] But they're called amps in this
[00:33:32] They're mechs
[00:33:33] It's a mech
[00:33:34] Looks like a power loader
[00:33:35] Yeah but it doesn't load
[00:33:36] It's a mech
[00:33:37] But there are the ones in the background
[00:33:38] At the loading dock that are like
[00:33:40] Doing load and shit
[00:33:41] It's kind of like a power loader
[00:33:42] Except it's for fighting too
[00:33:45] You carry a big knife in one
[00:33:47] Well that's I mean Ripley
[00:33:48] Was sort of the original amp
[00:33:49] Because she was like
[00:33:50] I can load
[00:33:51] I'll load a fight on to your ass
[00:33:53] You know what I'm saying
[00:33:54] Like she took that power loader
[00:33:55] Made into a fight
[00:33:56] No but I'm just
[00:33:57] Fighting robot
[00:33:58] I like aliens more than I like avatar
[00:33:59] Controversial opinion
[00:34:00] Because the tech in aliens is more
[00:34:04] Grounded, realistic
[00:34:05] Practical
[00:34:06] Practical
[00:34:07] The tech in avatar is not
[00:34:08] That's fine
[00:34:09] It's more cartoonish
[00:34:10] Sure
[00:34:11] And it's more
[00:34:12] I mean you've seen that
[00:34:13] It's not just like aliens
[00:34:14] Didn't invent the idea of
[00:34:15] Humans in a power suit
[00:34:16] That's in like every anime
[00:34:18] You know come on
[00:34:19] Come on
[00:34:20] It's kind of him playing the hits
[00:34:21] Alright
[00:34:22] It's kind of him playing the hits
[00:34:23] I don't think so
[00:34:24] I think it's him being like
[00:34:25] You get this and I have to explain it
[00:34:26] Great
[00:34:27] It's playing the hits
[00:34:28] I think that the mechs have like
[00:34:30] Not a gun attached to their arm
[00:34:32] But they pick up a giant gun
[00:34:34] I like that too
[00:34:35] I like that too
[00:34:36] I think it's great
[00:34:37] I like that a lot
[00:34:38] Okay that's the central setup
[00:34:40] Grace Augustine doesn't like Jigsaw
[00:34:42] She's like why am I saddled with this guy
[00:34:44] But you know what, what the fuck
[00:34:45] Rabisi and Lang though
[00:34:47] Steven Lang plays Colonel Quattrick
[00:34:49] Because Sully used to be a marine
[00:34:51] He's a jarhead
[00:34:52] As he self identifies a bunch of times
[00:34:54] And Lang is like
[00:34:55] I can get through to this guy
[00:34:56] Sure I can, this guy can be helpful
[00:34:57] I can activate that military gene in his body
[00:34:59] So Lang wants, you know, Quattrick
[00:35:02] He wants, he says to Jake
[00:35:04] Look, you can do what she wants you to do
[00:35:06] You can drive your avatar
[00:35:07] But get in with them and like
[00:35:08] Get me info
[00:35:09] I want intel on how to take these guys down
[00:35:11] You can help me out
[00:35:12] Like look
[00:35:13] Is there a big home tree that they live in
[00:35:14] Is on the unobtainium deposit
[00:35:16] And we're gonna go get it
[00:35:17] Yes
[00:35:18] So he goes in
[00:35:19] And then you have some adventures on Pandora
[00:35:21] Right, okay
[00:35:22] So he goes with them very quickly
[00:35:24] Immediately again smart
[00:35:26] And then you don't fucking waste time on this
[00:35:28] On him being like
[00:35:29] Oh, how to be an avatar
[00:35:31] Within like two minutes of him
[00:35:33] In the tari body on Pandora
[00:35:35] With Grace and Norm
[00:35:37] He like comes face to face with
[00:35:39] Is the first creature they see the fanator?
[00:35:41] The big rhino
[00:35:42] Oh right yes
[00:35:43] I don't know what that one's called
[00:35:45] And he like sort of
[00:35:47] Chases, he engages with it
[00:35:49] And then it chases him
[00:35:50] He jumps over a waterfall
[00:35:51] He gets stranded from the rest of the group
[00:35:53] No, no, it's the rhino
[00:35:54] He beats the rhino
[00:35:55] Or he thinks he's like had it submit
[00:35:56] But then the Thanator shows up
[00:35:58] Attacks the rhino, attacks him
[00:35:59] Yeah, he jumps over a waterfall
[00:36:00] Then it's night time
[00:36:02] He's gonna get eaten by a bunch of little
[00:36:03] And the big thing is that
[00:36:04] So they're like circling around
[00:36:06] With Trudy and the helicopter
[00:36:07] And she's like
[00:36:08] They won't let us out past dark
[00:36:09] We just gotta leave
[00:36:10] And hope that he's gonna be okay
[00:36:11] Yeah
[00:36:12] So they all go
[00:36:13] And he's just alone on
[00:36:14] On the moon of Pandora
[00:36:15] Mm-hmm
[00:36:16] And he fights the Viper Wolves
[00:36:18] He's wet
[00:36:19] Yeah, he's gonna fight
[00:36:20] He's a little wet
[00:36:21] And also this is Cameron showing off
[00:36:23] Right?
[00:36:24] He's built this big glowy world
[00:36:25] Yeah
[00:36:26] And it's cool
[00:36:27] It's really cool
[00:36:28] This is where the 3D is important
[00:36:30] Can I throw out something too?
[00:36:31] Because it makes the world seem real
[00:36:32] Yeah
[00:36:33] Lighting-wise
[00:36:35] For whatever reason
[00:36:36] Because it's all digital
[00:36:37] But for whatever reason
[00:36:38] Anytime there's
[00:36:39] This is all mocap guys
[00:36:40] Yeah
[00:36:41] At this point the movie is
[00:36:42] 90% animated
[00:36:43] It's an animated film
[00:36:44] Right
[00:36:45] Which is really weird that
[00:36:46] It's never considered as such
[00:36:47] And Cameron like fights that way
[00:36:49] Oh, this was animated?
[00:36:51] Well this movie has a lot of
[00:36:53] Live action stuff
[00:36:54] It does
[00:36:55] Can I throw a counterpoint out to you?
[00:36:57] I mean, yeah
[00:36:58] Okay
[00:36:59] What's your counterpoint?
[00:37:01] It doesn't?
[00:37:02] I mean, I don't know what you're saying
[00:37:03] Every year the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies
[00:37:05] Qualify for the best animated feature
[00:37:07] At Oscars
[00:37:09] Mm-hmm
[00:37:10] They're qualified to be a nominee
[00:37:12] Because there's enough animation
[00:37:13] For it to constitute being an animated movie
[00:37:14] Okay
[00:37:15] And those movies are
[00:37:16] A couple animated characters
[00:37:18] In a live action world
[00:37:19] But isn't this a submission thing
[00:37:20] Like Fox would have to submit it as an animated movie?
[00:37:22] 100%
[00:37:23] But I'm saying this is more of an animated movie
[00:37:24] Than Alvin and the Chipmunks
[00:37:25] But what kind of an argument is that?
[00:37:27] That doesn't mean anything
[00:37:28] It means everything
[00:37:29] No, it doesn't
[00:37:30] It doesn't mean anything at all
[00:37:31] It's about the sky, come on
[00:37:32] Listen
[00:37:33] God
[00:37:34] David's really loving me today
[00:37:36] Ugh
[00:37:37] I'm coming here
[00:37:38] To stir up some shit
[00:37:39] I'm being a little stinker today
[00:37:41] You really are
[00:37:43] They
[00:37:45] For whatever reason
[00:37:46] I think the Navi look
[00:37:47] Really good
[00:37:48] When they're lit by fire
[00:37:49] They do
[00:37:50] There are like a bunch of scenes in this movie
[00:37:51] Where fire happens
[00:37:52] For one reason or another
[00:37:53] Good entrance
[00:37:54] Good introduction to the world
[00:37:56] Right, yeah
[00:37:57] Like having that scene at night
[00:37:58] Very early on
[00:37:59] But I think their skin
[00:38:00] The actual texture of the skin
[00:38:01] For whatever reason
[00:38:02] When the fire lights reflecting off of them
[00:38:03] They look more
[00:38:04] I get you
[00:38:05] Realistic
[00:38:06] It's just like all the fire scenes
[00:38:07] In this film
[00:38:08] I think that everything looks pretty realistic
[00:38:10] Considering how cartoonish it is
[00:38:11] Except for weirdly the Thanator
[00:38:13] When I was rewatching
[00:38:14] I was like
[00:38:15] Thanators, maybe it's like
[00:38:16] It's like jet black
[00:38:18] For some reason it just kind of looks a little faking
[00:38:20] Oh, see I like Thanator
[00:38:21] Oh my god
[00:38:22] You disagree with me on every fucking minor point
[00:38:24] But I think some of the
[00:38:25] I was surprised by how much
[00:38:27] Of the film I thought
[00:38:29] Started to already age a little bit
[00:38:32] Yeah, we really disagree on everything
[00:38:34] Just because I think technology
[00:38:35] Moves so fast that we're already like
[00:38:36] What's a movie now
[00:38:37] That looks better than this
[00:38:38] I mean I think the ape work
[00:38:39] In the Planet of the Apes movies is like
[00:38:42] Wow, we're really just
[00:38:44] Opposite ends here
[00:38:45] I totally disagree
[00:38:46] David's playing the opposite of
[00:38:47] Flitzy under the table with me
[00:38:49] He's kicking me in the shins
[00:38:51] I think the ape work
[00:38:52] In the Rise and the Dawn movies
[00:38:54] Is excellent but
[00:38:56] You know, you're like
[00:38:58] That's a cartoon
[00:38:59] Now obviously that has the problem
[00:39:00] That it's a real thing
[00:39:02] I like the neutron
[00:39:04] I love the neutron my friend
[00:39:06] Love that neutron
[00:39:08] Love it
[00:39:11] There were just some moments
[00:39:12] In this where I just
[00:39:13] I see
[00:39:14] Not even like in terms of
[00:39:15] Realism of like texture or whatever
[00:39:17] But just the limitations
[00:39:19] Of like mocap data collection
[00:39:22] Where some of the movements
[00:39:23] Feel a little bit incomplete to me
[00:39:24] Like they weren't able to pick up
[00:39:26] On all the subtleties of everything
[00:39:28] I just don't think there's
[00:39:29] A lot of movies now
[00:39:30] That look as good as this movie
[00:39:33] They really aren't
[00:39:34] I mean obviously the money helps
[00:39:36] I mean this was a big budget movie
[00:39:37] Yeah, I pure a lot of money
[00:39:38] And I just think
[00:39:39] This movie wasn't a lot of ways
[00:39:40] Like a testing ground for technology stuff
[00:39:42] Hey couldn't you argue though
[00:39:43] That some of the video games
[00:39:44] That have come out in the last few years
[00:39:46] Looked better
[00:39:47] Nope, than this movie
[00:39:48] Someone who plays a lot of video games
[00:39:50] Ben did you hear that
[00:39:51] David doesn't like the moon's a Jupiter?
[00:39:53] No we're not doing that again
[00:39:55] He doesn't even
[00:39:56] It's like that
[00:39:57] He's like trying to say
[00:39:58] Like sabotage them
[00:39:59] Like this is a moon
[00:40:00] You gotta keep that in mind by the way
[00:40:02] This is a moon
[00:40:03] It's like a moon a Jupiter
[00:40:04] This is moon a Jupiter
[00:40:05] Last giant it's sort of like a blue Jupiter
[00:40:07] So I'm just gonna move us forward
[00:40:09] Let's go say he gets stranded
[00:40:10] He's in survival mode
[00:40:11] He very quickly comes across Natiri
[00:40:13] Meet Natiri
[00:40:14] Who rules
[00:40:15] Who's great character
[00:40:16] Zoe Saldana
[00:40:17] She's one of my best friends
[00:40:18] No
[00:40:19] I think you're acquaintances
[00:40:20] I know we're pretty close
[00:40:21] We hang out like a lot
[00:40:22] We don't see each other a lot
[00:40:23] But when we do see each other
[00:40:24] We hang out like really hard
[00:40:25] Do you know what I'm saying
[00:40:26] I do
[00:40:27] Zoe Saldana plays her
[00:40:29] And she's gonna shoot him with an arrow
[00:40:31] Because she thinks he's a big dork
[00:40:33] Who sucks
[00:40:34] Which he kinda is
[00:40:35] That's what you do to dorks
[00:40:36] But then a fluffy fluff
[00:40:37] Lands on her bow
[00:40:38] And he's like watch out
[00:40:40] Fluff fluff
[00:40:41] And so she's like alright
[00:40:43] And then helps him instead
[00:40:44] And then a bunch of fluffy fluff lands on him
[00:40:46] It's got a pure heart but he's stupid
[00:40:47] You know, again
[00:40:48] This is some obvious
[00:40:50] Fucking bullshit
[00:40:51] I cannot deny
[00:40:52] That there's a bunch of fluff
[00:40:54] That lands on him
[00:40:55] And that means that everyone has to be chill with him
[00:40:57] But the movie's just fucking
[00:40:58] It's truckin' it
[00:40:59] It's just like yeah whatever man
[00:41:00] Let's just get to it
[00:41:01] You have a problem
[00:41:02] Fuck you
[00:41:03] I mean it is
[00:41:04] It's very last in the Mohicans
[00:41:05] Which is about
[00:41:06] Like a white man who is raised
[00:41:08] You know, in the Mohican tribe
[00:41:10] And like so you know right
[00:41:11] It's like the outsider who learns their ways
[00:41:13] And is then like one of the people
[00:41:15] It's a cultural appropriation movie
[00:41:17] Because he literally gets in the body
[00:41:19] Of the other people
[00:41:20] And the movie explores that
[00:41:23] Tension to some extent
[00:41:25] And then eventually decides to drop it
[00:41:27] Because it's got action to get to
[00:41:29] And this is a three act movie
[00:41:31] With you know the typical like
[00:41:33] They reject him and then they accept him again
[00:41:35] And like structure
[00:41:36] And it turns out this white outsider
[00:41:37] Is like everything than they are
[00:41:38] And isn't he the one that essentially
[00:41:40] Ruins the day for them
[00:41:42] Because he's like their inside man
[00:41:44] Nah I mean
[00:41:45] I'm like both
[00:41:46] He ruins it but he saves it
[00:41:47] He doesn't really ruin it
[00:41:48] Honestly one of my biggest problems with the movies
[00:41:50] That moment when they're all like
[00:41:51] You betrayed us
[00:41:52] It's like well no
[00:41:53] Like it's not like he went and told them
[00:41:55] Like you know what you should do
[00:41:56] Is blow up the home tree
[00:41:57] They were gonna do that anyway
[00:41:58] Yeah
[00:41:59] He didn't really do anything at all
[00:42:00] They were all about that unobtainium
[00:42:01] That's the thing
[00:42:02] I mean they were gonna get there
[00:42:03] By hook or by cruff
[00:42:04] He gave them a map
[00:42:05] To the inside of the tree
[00:42:07] But how useful is that
[00:42:08] They just blow up the tree
[00:42:09] Well and like
[00:42:10] Courage is constantly like
[00:42:11] And we good intel
[00:42:12] But then you watch the intel
[00:42:13] And he's like their people are interesting
[00:42:14] You know the intel's like
[00:42:16] They live in a tree
[00:42:17] Right
[00:42:18] And I ride horses
[00:42:19] And I have a flying thing
[00:42:21] And I fly around
[00:42:22] Yeah I think that one's cute
[00:42:23] Yeah
[00:42:24] I date the chieftain's daughter
[00:42:25] She's nice to me
[00:42:26] It's like good intel
[00:42:27] The other guy doesn't
[00:42:28] Apparently the chieftain's daughter is single
[00:42:30] We got everything we need to go in now
[00:42:32] So
[00:42:34] Yeah you know
[00:42:36] So like I mean obviously James Cameron
[00:42:38] Is quote unquote getting away with
[00:42:40] Everything the other themes we're talking about
[00:42:42] Because this is about blue people right
[00:42:43] So it doesn't have to be
[00:42:45] About one particular
[00:42:47] Culture that is being invaded
[00:42:50] But it's also
[00:42:51] You see a lot of similarities between
[00:42:52] All of them
[00:42:53] There are a lot of similarities
[00:42:54] Between sort of tribal cultures
[00:42:55] Across our world throughout history
[00:42:57] I mean he's using a lot of iconography
[00:42:59] He's hitting a lot of just
[00:43:01] Different eras of colonialism
[00:43:03] Correct
[00:43:04] But this is also a movie about
[00:43:06] Colonialisms
[00:43:07] ILS
[00:43:08] Yeah
[00:43:09] And obviously this is a film where
[00:43:10] Humanity is a great evil
[00:43:12] That needs to be destroyed
[00:43:13] Yeah
[00:43:14] And it's
[00:43:15] To me very much a film
[00:43:17] About the Iraq war
[00:43:19] I think it's
[00:43:20] Incredibly obviously
[00:43:21] And like was made in the
[00:43:23] Shadow of the Iraq war
[00:43:24] And like
[00:43:25] I think the imagery is like
[00:43:26] Very powerful in that regard
[00:43:27] I agree
[00:43:28] You know some of the other stuff
[00:43:30] Is yeah
[00:43:31] It's broad and goofy
[00:43:32] Yeah
[00:43:33] There's
[00:43:34] There's forest people
[00:43:35] Who sleep in hammocks
[00:43:36] And they respect the earth and nature
[00:43:38] But the hammocks hug them
[00:43:39] Yeah
[00:43:40] There's little hammocks
[00:43:41] I mean it's
[00:43:42] And then of course
[00:43:43] He
[00:43:44] Being James Cameron
[00:43:45] You can't resist having their religion
[00:43:46] Not be some vagomorphous
[00:43:48] Goddess or whatever
[00:43:49] But this idea that like
[00:43:51] Yeah
[00:43:52] That hey nature is internet baby
[00:43:53] Yeah
[00:43:54] All the trees are linked to each other
[00:43:55] So you just plug into that tree
[00:43:56] I mean it's a good selling point
[00:43:58] Because other religions are like
[00:43:59] Hey you just gotta believe
[00:44:00] And this one's like
[00:44:01] Oh you have a Mac God?
[00:44:02] She's over there
[00:44:03] Yeah she's the tree
[00:44:04] Just plug your hair into it
[00:44:05] You should go
[00:44:06] You should go hair fuck God
[00:44:07] Yeah yeah you want to do that right now
[00:44:08] Now
[00:44:09] If a religion was promising me on earth
[00:44:11] That I could fuck God
[00:44:12] I would become the most religious person in the world
[00:44:14] I think everyone would
[00:44:15] I mean this is not a movie
[00:44:16] Where you see people who are like
[00:44:18] You know I don't really believe in AWA
[00:44:20] Eh
[00:44:21] You know my parents believed in it
[00:44:22] So I go
[00:44:23] I go to AWA high holidays
[00:44:25] But I'm not really an AWA believer
[00:44:26] I hope that Avatar 4
[00:44:28] Is about Naviatheus
[00:44:29] Maybe Avatar 2 is going to be
[00:44:31] About them having kids
[00:44:32] And the kids are like
[00:44:33] Eh AWA's overrated
[00:44:34] Like Avatar Satanist they fuck rocks
[00:44:36] Instead
[00:44:37] There is no like Satan
[00:44:40] No
[00:44:41] There's no like bad
[00:44:42] I mean white man
[00:44:43] Well yeah
[00:44:44] White man devil
[00:44:45] Great Satan
[00:44:46] Giovanni Robisi
[00:44:47] The greatest Satanist of all
[00:44:48] Giovanni Robisi Steven Lang baby
[00:44:49] One two punch of evil white guys
[00:44:51] So the middle
[00:44:53] Or well no
[00:44:54] This is a pretty long movie
[00:44:55] So I'd say like the middle first
[00:44:57] I don't know
[00:44:58] The sort of long extended first act
[00:45:00] Everything we've talked about is just the first act of five
[00:45:02] I would say
[00:45:03] I'd say there are five acts in this movie
[00:45:05] Well it's like intro
[00:45:07] I would say this is more like a high school essay
[00:45:09] You got intro, paragraphs one two three
[00:45:12] Conclusion
[00:45:13] I love that dude
[00:45:14] Five acts
[00:45:15] But like the
[00:45:16] I'm saying the
[00:45:17] The acts on the side are pretty small
[00:45:19] Sure
[00:45:20] Cause like the real first act of the movie
[00:45:21] You could watch this movie
[00:45:22] And put an intermission probably
[00:45:24] This is like a two intermission movie
[00:45:26] If you really wanted to be
[00:45:27] Put an intermission right when he flies
[00:45:30] When he quote unquote becomes one of the people
[00:45:33] All the training shit
[00:45:35] This next chunk of the movie is that
[00:45:36] She brings him back to her people
[00:45:38] And they're like what the fuck is this
[00:45:39] He's a sky person
[00:45:41] Sky person
[00:45:42] He's a devil
[00:45:43] And they're like
[00:45:44] What's your deal
[00:45:45] What tribe are you from
[00:45:46] She's got a mean
[00:45:47] Oh yeah he says he's in the jar head tribe
[00:45:49] You like that
[00:45:50] But he said no
[00:45:51] It's that he says he's a warrior
[00:45:52] And they're like interesting
[00:45:53] They've never sent us
[00:45:54] But also the fluff
[00:45:55] But also the fluff
[00:45:56] But the fluff but it's those two things together
[00:45:57] Right
[00:45:58] They're like that's bizarre
[00:45:59] Because they've only ever sent these doctors
[00:46:00] These teachers
[00:46:01] Which we're not going to teach them
[00:46:02] How to ride the horses
[00:46:03] And the birdies
[00:46:04] Right these seemingly peaceful people
[00:46:05] There's a new approach here
[00:46:06] So like we got to get close
[00:46:07] And keep our friends close
[00:46:08] And just to figure out what's going on
[00:46:09] Also the fluff's we can't argue with the fluff
[00:46:10] Fluffs are big
[00:46:11] He's got a crush on Nateri
[00:46:13] She's got a
[00:46:14] She's betrothed to
[00:46:16] Sute
[00:46:17] Yeah
[00:46:18] Who is played by
[00:46:19] Lausazano
[00:46:20] La
[00:46:21] Wait is it
[00:46:22] Lausalanzo
[00:46:23] It's not Lausalanzo
[00:46:24] It's not Lausalanzo
[00:46:25] You're right it's not Lausalanzo
[00:46:26] I get those names
[00:46:28] Me too
[00:46:29] Lausalanzo who
[00:46:30] He's in like
[00:46:31] What is he in the fourth fast and furious
[00:46:34] He's in one
[00:46:35] He's in stuff
[00:46:36] He's a guy
[00:46:37] He's a guy
[00:46:38] He's pretty good
[00:46:39] He's a good actor
[00:46:40] I like suit suit
[00:46:41] I think he's good in this
[00:46:42] I think because I think he's pushing through
[00:46:44] The mocap
[00:46:45] He's doing a good job
[00:46:46] Let's see
[00:46:47] Wait he was
[00:46:48] Yes he's in the fourth one
[00:46:49] So
[00:46:50] And you meet the
[00:46:52] Oh he was in 38 episodes of Mystery the Lore
[00:46:54] That's a thing I was thinking of
[00:46:55] Right he's actually very cute in there
[00:46:58] You got CCH Pounder plays
[00:46:59] Mouatt
[00:47:00] The sort of
[00:47:03] I don't know
[00:47:04] The shaman, the village elder
[00:47:05] She's good in this
[00:47:06] She's terrific
[00:47:07] I mean
[00:47:08] So good in this
[00:47:09] Amazing act
[00:47:10] Do we know what the CCH stands for?
[00:47:12] Carol
[00:47:13] Christine
[00:47:14] Hilaria
[00:47:15] That's cool
[00:47:16] Love CCH Pounder seriously
[00:47:17] One of the greatest TV actresses ever
[00:47:19] Not in as many movies that she maybe could be
[00:47:21] Or like should be
[00:47:22] But she's in so many cool TV shows
[00:47:24] She's on NCIS
[00:47:25] That's not really what I would lead with
[00:47:27] NCIS, New Orleans
[00:47:29] I mean the
[00:47:30] The ER and the shield
[00:47:32] Those are two like
[00:47:33] Two definitive TV performances for me
[00:47:35] And then West study
[00:47:38] Yes
[00:47:39] A Native American actor
[00:47:40] Yes who is
[00:47:41] He's in so many movies
[00:47:42] He's in the last of the Mohekins
[00:47:43] Mystery man he's in the last of the Mohekins
[00:47:45] He's in
[00:47:46] So good in the last of the Mohekins
[00:47:47] The New World
[00:47:48] I think he's often brought on
[00:47:50] For those movies especially also as like a bit of a consultant
[00:47:52] Sure
[00:47:53] And in average
[00:47:54] She is a double dude
[00:47:55] Yes
[00:47:56] He's A2 Khan
[00:47:57] He's the clan leader or whatever
[00:47:59] Yeah
[00:48:00] Yeah
[00:48:01] He's an actor
[00:48:02] He's all these folks but
[00:48:03] I mean the main thing is
[00:48:04] Learn how to ride a horse
[00:48:05] Learn how to use your hair plug
[00:48:06] Right
[00:48:07] You plug your hair into shit
[00:48:08] The parents are like
[00:48:09] Look
[00:48:10] You know what?
[00:48:11] Fine
[00:48:12] He can stay
[00:48:13] Let's get him close
[00:48:14] Figure out what's going on
[00:48:15] He can learn our culture
[00:48:16] Nantiri that's your job
[00:48:17] Mom
[00:48:18] Dad
[00:48:19] I gotta hang out with this guy
[00:48:21] And he's like
[00:48:23] And then they start hanging out
[00:48:24] She's giving him the lessons, the ropes
[00:48:26] Sute's a little mean to him
[00:48:27] Takes like 50 minutes
[00:48:28] I mean like 50 minutes of the movie are just
[00:48:30] Sort of like him
[00:48:31] Yeah but I think this is brilliant
[00:48:32] Well it's all visually stunning stuff
[00:48:34] No but I also think
[00:48:35] You need it because you need to feel
[00:48:37] How bad it is when
[00:48:39] When you know the attack happens
[00:48:41] 100%
[00:48:42] You need to be in the world
[00:48:43] The whole key of the movie is to get you in this world
[00:48:45] And also to
[00:48:47] Explain all the rules of everything now
[00:48:50] So at the last hour
[00:48:52] You can have almost no dialogue
[00:48:53] And just go breathlessly through everything
[00:48:55] With shorthand already in your back pocket
[00:48:57] Totally
[00:48:58] So good
[00:48:59] It's well done stuff
[00:49:01] You know maybe
[00:49:02] Leans a little bit too much on voiceover
[00:49:04] A lot of voiceover
[00:49:05] Which the device of course
[00:49:07] Is that he's talking to the camera
[00:49:09] For his like science log
[00:49:11] Oh come on guys
[00:49:12] I like it
[00:49:13] Who doesn't love a good confessional
[00:49:14] Me too I like it
[00:49:15] I'm into it
[00:49:16] I wish we got more gossip
[00:49:18] Ben I'm surprised
[00:49:20] He's good at gossip
[00:49:21] I'm surprised we haven't talked about
[00:49:23] The most prominent element of this film
[00:49:26] And the one I expect you to react most strongly to
[00:49:28] What's that
[00:49:29] The Navir big baby
[00:49:31] Oh yes
[00:49:32] You're right
[00:49:33] I did notice that
[00:49:34] They are very hard to kill
[00:49:36] They're humans
[00:49:38] Then there's Navi they're bigger
[00:49:39] Yeah
[00:49:40] Big and skinny
[00:49:41] Like a person with bigger
[00:49:42] You know you see their hands by our heads
[00:49:45] And what's cool about that
[00:49:47] You're seeing it on the big screen
[00:49:48] I didn't get to see it on the big screen
[00:49:49] But you're seeing it on the big screen
[00:49:50] You're like damn those hands are huge
[00:49:54] I'm like this movie was designed for dummies like me
[00:49:57] This is basically like oh they're blue
[00:50:00] It's 3D and they're big
[00:50:01] Alright let's do it
[00:50:03] Kids
[00:50:05] So
[00:50:06] Quarage comes to Jake Sully
[00:50:08] Kids
[00:50:09] Bring the kids
[00:50:10] We got a big old blue movie
[00:50:12] Jake's in love with all the Navi culture
[00:50:14] He's getting in deep right
[00:50:16] And he's fallen head over heels with Natiri
[00:50:19] And Grace is like
[00:50:21] Yo watch out
[00:50:22] You gotta keep a separation between work and play
[00:50:25] She's not really like that
[00:50:26] Church and state
[00:50:27] In the extended version there's the scene they have
[00:50:29] Where she then talks about
[00:50:31] She ran the school for the Navi
[00:50:34] Trying to teach them
[00:50:35] And it resulted in a massacre that killed Natiri's sister
[00:50:39] Which is a very good scene that
[00:50:41] Sigourney crushes
[00:50:42] Sigourney does a good job
[00:50:43] Thank God they cut it in my opinion
[00:50:45] I think it's a good scene
[00:50:46] I would have kept that in
[00:50:47] I think it's too much info tilting
[00:50:50] Natiri against the ultimate decision
[00:50:53] She's gonna make
[00:50:54] I think they did a good job
[00:50:56] I think it helps her character a lot
[00:50:58] We just were disagreeing on everything
[00:51:01] I thought you were saying
[00:51:02] Like she gave him the talk
[00:51:04] You know like the
[00:51:06] Talk about the turrocks and the floating tree things
[00:51:10] No no no but the other thing is
[00:51:12] Any extended edition of the sex scene is way longer
[00:51:16] And they join their hair together
[00:51:19] And they go like
[00:51:20] Yeah there's a moment where she goes
[00:51:21] Yeah which is again very wisely cut
[00:51:25] She's been even longer
[00:51:26] I slowed it down when I watched it
[00:51:29] Oh boy
[00:51:33] She has this little relationship
[00:51:34] Cause she starts out hating him
[00:51:35] And she has this little
[00:51:36] Like beat with him or she's like
[00:51:38] I know what's happening
[00:51:39] Like I remember it too when I first started tarring
[00:51:41] And it's pretty addictive
[00:51:43] But you got on your same
[00:51:44] Like this is just a thing
[00:51:45] This is a part of life
[00:51:46] You gotta have some time for yourself
[00:51:47] You can't get too deep into this
[00:51:48] Right I don't like that
[00:51:49] I like it
[00:51:50] I don't because again
[00:51:51] I feel like that's not what the movie's about
[00:51:52] The movie is not about like
[00:51:54] The dangers of him getting lost in his avatar
[00:51:56] We know that
[00:51:58] Him getting lost in his avatar
[00:51:59] Is the right thing for him to do
[00:52:01] And we're totally on board with him
[00:52:02] Like leaving his dumb flesh body behind
[00:52:05] Cause it sucks
[00:52:06] But that's why I like it
[00:52:07] It's a stupid body
[00:52:08] But each eggs drinks some coffee
[00:52:10] No I mean definitely each eggs and drinks coffee
[00:52:11] And take a shot
[00:52:12] Take care of yourself
[00:52:13] Yeah
[00:52:14] Do you think they can poop in the chamber
[00:52:16] In the like the coffins
[00:52:18] The sarcophagi
[00:52:19] You know what they didn't deal with that
[00:52:20] At all
[00:52:21] They didn't deal with it
[00:52:22] They don't do a lot of that to where it's like
[00:52:24] It'd be funny if like they open it
[00:52:25] And they're like
[00:52:27] You got it going
[00:52:28] Well they don't
[00:52:29] It sounds like the kind of matrix rules
[00:52:30] Of like if you die in the matrix
[00:52:31] You die here kind of stuff
[00:52:32] No cause you don't
[00:52:33] If you die in the avatar
[00:52:35] You do wake up
[00:52:36] And that's what they feel great
[00:52:37] When she's saying that like
[00:52:38] You know he
[00:52:40] Losing weight
[00:52:41] And he's like
[00:52:42] I just ate a big feast there
[00:52:43] And she's like
[00:52:44] Gotta take care of this body
[00:52:45] Cause it's like that food doesn't translate
[00:52:46] Do you think if he takes a shit
[00:52:48] Like if he feels like he needs to take a shit
[00:52:49] And he takes a shit
[00:52:50] In the navi world
[00:52:51] And he's like
[00:52:52] Good got that off my deck
[00:52:53] And then he wakes up
[00:52:54] And he's got like a full load
[00:52:55] He asked
[00:52:56] I think he has to go take care of that
[00:52:57] Hey you know what
[00:52:58] Tweet at us guys
[00:52:59] Yeah Tweet at us
[00:53:00] Definitely avatar
[00:53:01] Hashtag avatar dump
[00:53:02] Just do it right
[00:53:03] Yeah
[00:53:04] Right
[00:53:05] Poop at us
[00:53:06] Avertured
[00:53:07] Tweet avatar at us
[00:53:08] Alright so
[00:53:10] What I like about that thing that is set up
[00:53:13] In the grace Augustine scene
[00:53:15] Is that it does show
[00:53:17] That is the difference with him
[00:53:18] Where everyone else it is just a job
[00:53:19] And this is the life he's going to take
[00:53:21] The fact that she's like
[00:53:22] You gotta keep a distance
[00:53:23] Between work and life
[00:53:24] You can't get too deep into this stuff
[00:53:26] He's the one guy who actually has
[00:53:27] Nothing going for him in his outside life
[00:53:29] He's ready to go all in on this shit
[00:53:31] Sure
[00:53:32] Absolutely
[00:53:33] I like her giving him the warning
[00:53:34] Because then it makes it clear that it's like
[00:53:36] You know he's the exception
[00:53:37] Okay fine
[00:53:38] Different difference of opinion
[00:53:40] You like bagels
[00:53:41] Love bagels
[00:53:42] Cool cool we're friends again
[00:53:43] We're always friends
[00:53:45] We're the two friends
[00:53:46] We're the two friends
[00:53:47] Fucking hell
[00:53:48] Fucking hell we're the two friends
[00:53:49] Alright so she flies
[00:53:50] That's a big deal
[00:53:51] Yeah
[00:53:52] He gets his little pterodon or whatever
[00:53:54] Yeah they call him banshees
[00:53:55] But that's like sort of the cloak wheel name
[00:53:56] For out cards or something
[00:53:58] It's like leopteryx
[00:54:00] Yeah
[00:54:01] Now it looks like leopteryx is like a specific
[00:54:03] Is one of them
[00:54:04] There's another name they call him banshees
[00:54:06] Co-loquially
[00:54:07] Is what they call the dragons
[00:54:09] Leonopteryx
[00:54:11] And then
[00:54:12] They
[00:54:13] She talks about Turok
[00:54:15] Four shadowing
[00:54:18] She shows him the Turok skull
[00:54:19] Yeah there's one scene of four shadowing
[00:54:21] Just so you get who that is
[00:54:23] Right and you also are then able to
[00:54:25] Understand Turok the first flight
[00:54:27] Well of course they needed to set up Turok
[00:54:29] The first flight which would eventually hit
[00:54:31] Arena seven years later
[00:54:32] They needed to set that up
[00:54:33] Right Turok Todd this is the guy's last
[00:54:35] Shadow he's the biggest one
[00:54:36] My great grandfather
[00:54:37] God forbid that show do any
[00:54:39] Heavy lifting with this story telling
[00:54:43] My grandfather he was
[00:54:45] The first Turok Todd
[00:54:46] There've only been like four or five
[00:54:47] Since then if you do that you might
[00:54:48] Try
[00:54:49] It's Turok Mechtow
[00:54:50] Turok Mechtow
[00:54:51] Why don't you keep on saying Turok Todd
[00:54:52] I don't know writer of the last shadow
[00:54:54] Mechtow
[00:54:55] Mechtow
[00:54:56] Right Mechtow
[00:54:57] Okay so
[00:54:58] He gets his own
[00:54:59] She's like look this is no easy thing
[00:55:01] Unlike riding a dire horse
[00:55:03] If you're linking up with a banshee
[00:55:05] It's like permanent connection
[00:55:07] So he has to go and kind of like
[00:55:09] He wrestles one
[00:55:10] I think that scene is fantastic
[00:55:12] Good
[00:55:13] The whole scene where you know
[00:55:14] And then the flight he takes
[00:55:15] And again in the 3D
[00:55:16] Cameron like few directors
[00:55:18] Gets like 3D works best with negative space
[00:55:20] It works best when you're
[00:55:21] You know to give a sense of being
[00:55:23] There
[00:55:24] Lots of like zoomed out shots
[00:55:26] I mean him and Michael Bay
[00:55:27] They're the only ones who got
[00:55:28] How do you get 3D
[00:55:29] Spatial geography Cameron's got
[00:55:30] A killer sense of spatial geography
[00:55:31] It's the best
[00:55:32] You need that for 3D
[00:55:33] Yup
[00:55:34] Okay so that's where you say
[00:55:35] Like the intermission would happen
[00:55:37] That's intermission one
[00:55:38] Intermission two
[00:55:39] And then they fuck after that
[00:55:40] Yeah because she's like
[00:55:42] Okay so you're one of the people now
[00:55:44] Like he
[00:55:45] Because Steven Lang's
[00:55:46] Quattrox giving him the like
[00:55:47] That's what I'm trying to remember
[00:55:48] We're moving in
[00:55:49] So that happened before after the fucking
[00:55:50] No it's before
[00:55:51] Okay so he says we're moving in
[00:55:52] And Jake's always like well I have
[00:55:53] My one last investiture
[00:55:55] You know my bar mitzvah essentially
[00:55:56] He's like I got real legs for you
[00:55:57] You can go back to earth
[00:55:58] Be able to walk again
[00:55:59] Why don't you get on that flight
[00:56:00] Leave now
[00:56:01] And he's like
[00:56:02] I really have my bar mitzvah to get to
[00:56:04] Right and he's like if I get the
[00:56:06] Bar mitzvah I'll be able to convince him
[00:56:07] To do anything
[00:56:08] Give me at least let me stay for that
[00:56:10] So he does the bar mitzvah
[00:56:11] And then he's curious like
[00:56:12] Now you can pick a mate
[00:56:13] Bly's the best singer
[00:56:14] Which I think is
[00:56:15] First he has to assign the candles
[00:56:18] My first candle goes to my father
[00:56:20] For always supporting me
[00:56:22] And all of my interest
[00:56:23] Dad you're the best
[00:56:24] Like to bring up to the stage
[00:56:26] Robert Sully
[00:56:30] Da da da da
[00:56:34] Da da da da feeling hot hot hot
[00:56:36] And then Robert Sully walks up
[00:56:38] Does a little dance
[00:56:39] Lights a candle
[00:56:40] What doesn't say I'm worth anything to him
[00:56:41] Was he doing
[00:56:42] He played a Jew in the debt
[00:56:43] Or whatever that movie was
[00:56:44] Yeah he did
[00:56:45] There's that crazy casting
[00:56:46] That movie where he's supposed
[00:56:47] To grow into Kieran Hines
[00:56:50] Look maybe he just really
[00:56:53] Really laid into the booze
[00:56:54] And the fatty food
[00:56:56] Those are two very different faces
[00:56:58] And the 60 cigarettes a day
[00:57:00] Kieran Hines has a lot of face
[00:57:01] Kieran Hines has a 60 cigarette a day face
[00:57:03] Yeah right
[00:57:04] Yeah but like not like he's just
[00:57:05] Like he's kind of a cigarette
[00:57:07] And not just that he's smoking
[00:57:08] Out of the mouth
[00:57:09] But like he's sticking cigarettes
[00:57:10] In his eye holes
[00:57:11] In his nostrils
[00:57:12] Like he's smoking out of the full face
[00:57:14] I love Kieran Hines
[00:57:15] He's a great actor
[00:57:16] Anyway
[00:57:17] He becomes one of the people
[00:57:19] Yeah the show
[00:57:20] Bulldozers roll in
[00:57:21] After he has sex with Natyree
[00:57:23] Right well let's not gloss over that
[00:57:25] Yeah let's get into it
[00:57:26] They fuck each other's braids out
[00:57:27] But how
[00:57:28] Ohhhh
[00:57:31] Boo
[00:57:32] No come on
[00:57:33] I'm gonna say
[00:57:34] Then
[00:57:35] Three comedy points
[00:57:36] Thank you
[00:57:37] Thank you
[00:57:38] The bulldozers come in
[00:57:39] Yeah
[00:57:40] This is the most fern gully scene
[00:57:42] Yeah
[00:57:43] And he smashes the camera
[00:57:44] Which I think is
[00:57:45] Cool
[00:57:46] Now let's point something out about the bulldozers
[00:57:50] Pretty uh
[00:57:51] Pretty cool
[00:57:52] Boy
[00:57:54] Go on
[00:57:55] We're not even tired
[00:57:56] Go on
[00:57:57] They're huge
[00:57:59] Bulldozers
[00:58:00] Pretty cool
[00:58:02] No they're so big
[00:58:03] Yeah they're big
[00:58:04] I mean a lot of big things in this
[00:58:05] Speak on that Ben
[00:58:06] Alright
[00:58:07] Well it reminded me sort of like
[00:58:09] Mario Brothers
[00:58:10] The third one
[00:58:11] You know that last level
[00:58:12] Super Mario Brothers 3
[00:58:13] Yeah
[00:58:14] Where it's like the big ass ship
[00:58:16] I love those ships
[00:58:17] Remind me of a huge ship
[00:58:19] Like uh
[00:58:20] That's what I got
[00:58:21] Great thank you men
[00:58:22] I agree
[00:58:23] So I like all this stuff in the movie
[00:58:24] Yeah me too
[00:58:25] But I love like everything post
[00:58:27] I like love everything post bulldozer
[00:58:29] When things get real
[00:58:30] That's where I think the movie
[00:58:32] Cashes in it
[00:58:33] Yeah I agree
[00:58:34] The movie spends an hour and a half
[00:58:35] Investing you
[00:58:36] You know
[00:58:37] It
[00:58:38] Makes you put a bunch of coins
[00:58:40] In the slot machine
[00:58:41] So that it can pay out
[00:58:42] In the last hour and a half
[00:58:43] And it does
[00:58:44] You're spending a lot of money
[00:58:45] And they're asking you to
[00:58:46] Invest a lot of faith in them
[00:58:47] It's not dissimilar to Titanic
[00:58:49] Which does like a lot of leg work
[00:58:50] No
[00:58:51] And sometimes can be a little corny
[00:58:53] But then you know
[00:58:54] It works
[00:58:55] And I think
[00:58:56] Inception does a similar thing
[00:58:57] Where it's like stick with us
[00:58:58] For the first chunk
[00:58:59] And then the last half
[00:59:00] Where it's pure play
[00:59:01] We're gonna give you all the fun
[00:59:03] Love inception
[00:59:05] Great movie
[00:59:06] Great movie
[00:59:07] Let's do Chris Rennelman
[00:59:08] Right now
[00:59:09] Yeah
[00:59:10] Right now
[00:59:11] In the middle of this episode
[00:59:12] Following
[00:59:13] Nine episodes
[00:59:14] Just for now
[00:59:15] 1998's following
[00:59:16] Nine films?
[00:59:17] Does he have nine films?
[00:59:18] It sounds about right
[00:59:19] Yeah
[00:59:20] Then you know
[00:59:22] They like
[00:59:23] Realize they watch the video footage
[00:59:25] They realize it's him
[00:59:26] Turning on them
[00:59:27] They pull the plug
[00:59:28] They freak it out
[00:59:29] Put him in jail
[00:59:30] Yeah
[00:59:31] They plug him back in
[00:59:32] For a second
[00:59:33] Cause he's like
[00:59:34] I'm the only one who can help you
[00:59:35] That scene is a little
[00:59:36] Let's give Michelle Rodriguez her due
[00:59:37] She breaks imagine
[00:59:38] No no no that hasn't happened yet
[00:59:39] They plug him back in
[00:59:40] Because he tries to negotiate
[00:59:41] With them at the home tree
[00:59:42] That's when they like tie him up
[00:59:43] And tie Grace up
[00:59:44] Yeah
[00:59:45] And then they unplug him again
[00:59:46] Put him in jail
[00:59:47] They unplug and plug
[00:59:48] Like four times in the last hour and a half
[00:59:50] They do a lot of that
[00:59:51] Which is funny because they're like
[00:59:52] No you can't do that
[00:59:53] Doesn't seem to have any of that
[00:59:54] But it keeps on happening where the military's like
[00:59:56] We're gonna plug in
[00:59:57] Get him out of here
[00:59:58] And they're like
[00:59:59] Don't plug him
[01:00:00] Don't plug him
[01:00:01] He's like
[01:00:02] What's going on
[01:00:03] They're like
[01:00:04] You're unplugged
[01:00:05] He's like
[01:00:06] Wait a second
[01:00:07] Plugging back in
[01:00:08] I love that it's all about PR too
[01:00:09] He's slaughter
[01:00:10] Me too
[01:00:11] I like that too
[01:00:12] That there is some kind of
[01:00:13] Like that's what they're worried about
[01:00:14] But they keep on plugging him back in
[01:00:15] And going like
[01:00:16] Wait he's doing the opposite of what he told us
[01:00:17] He was gonna do
[01:00:18] God damn it
[01:00:19] Unplug him
[01:00:20] You can't do that
[01:00:21] You can't do it
[01:00:22] They unplug him and he's like
[01:00:23] Sorry sorry sorry
[01:00:24] Plug me in
[01:00:25] Plug me in though
[01:00:26] No okay so they lock him up
[01:00:27] And then
[01:00:28] Then the home tree destruction happened
[01:00:29] Yeah which is probably
[01:00:30] The best sequence in the film
[01:00:31] Absolutely incredible
[01:00:32] Gaspar in a way said
[01:00:33] He cried
[01:00:34] He sobbed
[01:00:35] During the sequence
[01:00:36] I'm with you Gaspar
[01:00:37] Yeah
[01:00:38] And you jizzed in my eye
[01:00:39] During love
[01:00:40] Yeah very similar scene
[01:00:41] That's a real movie
[01:00:43] That was another use of 3D
[01:00:44] Yeah
[01:00:45] A jizz flying in my eye
[01:00:46] Yeah
[01:00:47] Uh
[01:00:48] You heard of this movie Ben?
[01:00:49] I'm familiar with that
[01:00:51] Director he did that
[01:00:52] Movie about ayahuasca
[01:00:54] Yeah
[01:00:55] That's cool as fuck
[01:00:56] Enter the void
[01:00:57] But I haven't seen the sleazy
[01:00:58] Sex movie no
[01:00:59] Hey it's not sleazy
[01:01:00] It's beautiful
[01:01:01] Oh
[01:01:02] It's called Love 3D
[01:01:03] It's probably a 6 out of 10
[01:01:04] Oh the movie with 3D
[01:01:05] Come flying
[01:01:06] It's glassy
[01:01:07] Oh so sorry
[01:01:08] So the home tree sequence
[01:01:09] That's where I really
[01:01:10] I mean obviously a lot of people
[01:01:11] Point to the 9-11 imagery
[01:01:13] Of like the big tree collapsing
[01:01:14] And all that
[01:01:15] And that's for sure
[01:01:16] But also I really did
[01:01:17] The shakana shit
[01:01:18] Like it really did feel
[01:01:19] Like war movie stuff to me
[01:01:20] Well and here's the other thing
[01:01:21] That happens at this
[01:01:22] Sequence of the movie
[01:01:23] I mean there's a lot of Iraq war
[01:01:24] Because like the show where you go
[01:01:25] Freakin' Daisy Cutters
[01:01:27] Yeah
[01:01:28] I wish I could do her perfectly
[01:01:29] She'd be such a fun
[01:01:30] Freakin' Daisy Cutters
[01:01:31] Freakin' Daisy Cutters
[01:01:32] Freakin' Daisy Cutters
[01:01:34] Uh there's also
[01:01:36] At this point in the film
[01:01:37] There's been a little foreshadowing
[01:01:38] A little bit of sprinkling
[01:01:39] But this is where
[01:01:40] A major element of film
[01:01:42] Comes into full bloom for the first time
[01:01:44] What?
[01:01:45] You know what it is
[01:01:46] I don't
[01:01:47] Dun-nuh-nuh
[01:01:48] So good
[01:01:49] Dun-nuh-nuh
[01:01:50] Dun-nuh-nuh
[01:01:51] Ah it's the best
[01:01:52] Because up until then
[01:01:53] He's been like
[01:01:54] Horner's been teasing you
[01:01:55] He's been teasing you
[01:01:56] And sometimes you get a little like
[01:01:57] Dun-nuh
[01:01:58] Yeah a little bit
[01:01:59] Maybe that makes a hint
[01:02:00] Sometimes you get a dun-nuh
[01:02:01] But yeah it's true
[01:02:02] He really waits to deploy
[01:02:03] His big theme
[01:02:04] A lot of this scores
[01:02:05] From the New World
[01:02:06] It has very similar themes
[01:02:07] We have a little bit of
[01:02:08] Titanic thrown in
[01:02:09] 100%
[01:02:10] Yeah
[01:02:11] Until you get to the war stuff
[01:02:12] And then the dun-nuh-nuh
[01:02:13] Overwhelms
[01:02:14] And the dun-nuh-nuh
[01:02:15] Fucking rule
[01:02:16] His New World score by the way
[01:02:18] Is one of his best
[01:02:19] I love that score so much
[01:02:20] Oh I agree
[01:02:21] That's my like number one
[01:02:22] Get out of a panic attack
[01:02:23] Totally good
[01:02:24] Yes good to relax
[01:02:25] I love it
[01:02:26] And he hates the movie
[01:02:27] And thinks that
[01:02:28] Malik fucked it up
[01:02:29] Because he wrote the score
[01:02:30] For different sections of the movie
[01:02:31] And Malik was like
[01:02:32] What if
[01:02:33] Like he chose different cues
[01:02:34] For different parts
[01:02:35] And then re-edited the whole
[01:02:36] Corner's an ordinary bastard
[01:02:37] He's also dead
[01:02:38] He got in a huge fight with Jim Cameron
[01:02:39] I know he's dead
[01:02:40] RIP
[01:02:41] Love you Jim's horn
[01:02:42] He was an ordinary bastard
[01:02:43] He gets in a big fight with everybody
[01:02:45] He was very precious about his work
[01:02:46] And then you listen to it
[01:02:47] And it's like
[01:02:48] Oh this is that same score
[01:02:49] You did it a couple of times
[01:02:50] He was one of the many composers
[01:02:51] Out there
[01:02:52] Who we got
[01:02:53] He's got some thames
[01:02:54] He reuses
[01:02:55] A little bit of top numism
[01:02:56] But it comes up with this
[01:02:57] Very simple
[01:02:58] Very effective avatar thing
[01:02:59] That makes you
[01:03:00] And it simultaneously feels ominous
[01:03:02] And like kind of scary
[01:03:03] And triumpha
[01:03:04] So all the times
[01:03:05] Like whether it's
[01:03:06] The humans getting up
[01:03:07] Or hand on the navi
[01:03:08] And you're like
[01:03:09] Oh shit
[01:03:10] And it's like
[01:03:11] And it's like jauzy
[01:03:12] And then the times when the navi
[01:03:13] Are coming up
[01:03:14] It's like
[01:03:15] And you feel like
[01:03:16] Yeah fuck the navi
[01:03:17] Fuck the navi
[01:03:18] I love the battle scene so much
[01:03:20] So you know like he
[01:03:21] So I mean after this
[01:03:22] It's all war
[01:03:23] It's all war
[01:03:24] It's all war
[01:03:25] It's all war
[01:03:26] And Michelle Rodriguez frees them
[01:03:27] From prison takes them back
[01:03:28] To the floating mountain
[01:03:29] Yeah she's cool
[01:03:30] She makes it clear that
[01:03:31] She's a friend
[01:03:32] She has that great bit where she
[01:03:33] Plays the gun and she's like
[01:03:34] Yeah you know what that is
[01:03:35] It's a great little
[01:03:36] It's a gun
[01:03:37] I'm Michelle Rodriguez
[01:03:38] You know me
[01:03:39] You've seen me in like 10 movies
[01:03:40] You don't know my name
[01:03:41] You know who I am
[01:03:42] Season 2 of Lost
[01:03:43] Yeah you watch Season 2 of Lost
[01:03:44] Everyone's watching it that time
[01:03:45] I don't even see a baby
[01:03:46] I might be the reason you stopped
[01:03:47] Watching but you were watching
[01:03:48] At that time
[01:03:49] I was just
[01:03:50] A real bummer for too much
[01:03:51] Of the show
[01:03:52] They didn't get me
[01:03:54] To heal my character basically
[01:03:55] They did her dirty on that show
[01:03:57] They did a little bit
[01:03:58] Ultimately
[01:03:59] Well
[01:04:00] They did her off
[01:04:01] What
[01:04:02] You mean the character
[01:04:03] Anelosea
[01:04:04] Yeah
[01:04:05] Yeah I mean they always wanted her
[01:04:07] To be a one season deal
[01:04:08] I don't know it's interesting
[01:04:09] It's interesting what
[01:04:10] They're yeah you're right
[01:04:11] I think they did it a little bit
[01:04:12] I think it shows
[01:04:14] What a bad job they did with Anelosea
[01:04:16] That when they kill her off
[01:04:18] They have to kill off another character
[01:04:21] Because they realize
[01:04:22] No one was really going to care
[01:04:23] Yeah
[01:04:24] Like no one would be really
[01:04:26] Sad that Anelosea was dead
[01:04:27] You know I never watched Lost
[01:04:28] Should I get into it
[01:04:29] David loves it
[01:04:30] Yeah
[01:04:31] I just star from the top
[01:04:32] No I'd say start with the last episode
[01:04:34] Then work backwards
[01:04:35] Definitely no no no no
[01:04:37] Last first
[01:04:38] An ultimate second
[01:04:39] You know like that
[01:04:40] Just work from both ends
[01:04:41] Like cutting a hot dog from both ends
[01:04:43] Like clad Atlas the novel
[01:04:45] Great
[01:04:46] Nesting dolls
[01:04:47] Alright so yeah
[01:04:49] All the warships just cool
[01:04:50] Yeah it just rules it's really well done
[01:04:53] Especially in 3D
[01:04:54] It was just super immersive
[01:04:55] I mean this movie just
[01:04:57] Took you into a place
[01:04:58] Yeah have you heard the story about Steven Spielberg
[01:05:01] You know Cameron showed Spielberg this movie before
[01:05:04] While he was still working on it
[01:05:05] And the scene
[01:05:06] I think it's the scene where
[01:05:08] We should say you know Jake plugs himself into A1
[01:05:10] Says like look my world's really shitty
[01:05:12] And they're not nice people
[01:05:13] And they might come fuck up
[01:05:15] You know
[01:05:16] And she's like wait a second
[01:05:17] Who the fuck told you you could do that
[01:05:19] And he was like literally everyone
[01:05:20] Says you can fuck the tree
[01:05:22] And she's like no no
[01:05:23] I know they said you can fuck the tree
[01:05:24] But I mean like that like
[01:05:25] Morally that you can do
[01:05:27] You can't just go to A1
[01:05:28] And be like hey fight this war for me
[01:05:30] Well he does
[01:05:31] He does
[01:05:32] And there's you know so you know
[01:05:33] When as the big war is playing out
[01:05:35] All the animals and the birds
[01:05:37] Like suddenly emerge from the forest
[01:05:38] And she's like how about a tree
[01:05:40] And she's got her arrow
[01:05:41] A1 has heard you
[01:05:42] Yeah which is great
[01:05:43] Apparently Spielberg like stood up
[01:05:44] In the cinema
[01:05:45] It was like yeah like that
[01:05:47] I love Steven Spielberg
[01:05:48] I've heard so many stories about him
[01:05:50] Being like that
[01:05:51] Like being like a really active participant
[01:05:53] In movies
[01:05:54] Yeah
[01:05:55] And also you know the
[01:05:57] Paranormal activity story
[01:05:58] Which one
[01:05:59] Oh where he made them take the film
[01:06:01] And put it in a garbage bag
[01:06:02] He showed up with the film
[01:06:03] In a garbage bag and said like
[01:06:05] I don't want to watch this again
[01:06:06] Like take it away
[01:06:07] Like this scared me too much
[01:06:08] But there's the thing with this movie
[01:06:10] Is it's so fucking earnest
[01:06:12] Very earnest
[01:06:13] And it's so fucking dorky
[01:06:14] I forgot how dorky this movie is
[01:06:16] It's quite dorky
[01:06:18] You know but it's like
[01:06:19] That's the thing is just
[01:06:20] He's got no shame about it
[01:06:21] It's like you're talking to
[01:06:22] Your friend's dad
[01:06:23] And he's like
[01:06:24] You know I write a little on the side
[01:06:25] And it's like you write
[01:06:26] And he's like yeah I've been
[01:06:27] Writing a little sci-fi novel
[01:06:28] And it's like can I read it
[01:06:29] And he sends you the manuscript
[01:06:30] And you're like
[01:06:31] I can't believe you put all this time
[01:06:32] Into developing this world
[01:06:34] Yeah
[01:06:35] And it feels like James Cameron
[01:06:36] Is just like someone's dad
[01:06:37] Who wrote this crazy sci-fi
[01:06:39] Like novel
[01:06:40] It's a melding of like
[01:06:42] So many of his goofy interests
[01:06:44] But then with stuff where you're like
[01:06:46] Oh you like this too
[01:06:47] This kind of goofy spiritual shit
[01:06:49] Like this is what you're into now
[01:06:51] Yeah
[01:06:52] It's like one of the least cynical movies ever
[01:06:54] It is but that's what I love about it
[01:06:55] Is that it does feel like
[01:06:56] He's like yeah
[01:06:57] Kind of chilling out a little bit
[01:06:59] Yeah
[01:07:00] Becoming a little more of like a hippie dad
[01:07:01] Yeah
[01:07:02] He's like he's sick of humans
[01:07:04] And like machines and all that stuff
[01:07:06] And he's also just like
[01:07:07] Fuck you this is cool
[01:07:08] I don't care
[01:07:09] And you're like
[01:07:10] That's a little dorky Jim
[01:07:11] And he's like no fuck you
[01:07:12] It's cool
[01:07:13] He's like fuck you
[01:07:14] I spent $500 million
[01:07:15] And you're like yeah
[01:07:16] It was worth it
[01:07:17] Yeah
[01:07:18] I mean what are some things
[01:07:19] In those fun
[01:07:20] I mean I love
[01:07:21] What's in the movie
[01:07:22] Really good
[01:07:23] And I feel like he's
[01:07:24] Well he's really cool in
[01:07:25] Don't Breathe
[01:07:26] Don't Breathe that just came out this year
[01:07:27] I feel like
[01:07:28] I was gonna say
[01:07:29] I feel like he hasn't gotten caught enough
[01:07:30] Like splash
[01:07:31] Like spill over from this movie
[01:07:33] But that feels like
[01:07:34] The first really substantial role
[01:07:35] He's had since then
[01:07:36] Which is a bummer
[01:07:37] Cause he's a really good actor
[01:07:38] Everyone always talks about him as cable
[01:07:39] As being he looks like cable
[01:07:41] Yeah he'd be a good cable
[01:07:42] He'd be fun
[01:07:43] Yeah I don't know that he'd be good
[01:07:44] But
[01:07:45] I think he'd do a good job
[01:07:46] I just don't care
[01:07:47] Yeah me either
[01:07:48] But I love all the scenes where
[01:07:49] He holds his breath
[01:07:50] Does a thing
[01:07:51] And then he's finally
[01:07:52] Alright
[01:07:53] And puts on the breathing mask
[01:07:54] All this camera stuff
[01:07:55] You know like
[01:07:56] Where he's like
[01:07:57] This is how the tech works
[01:07:58] Yeah
[01:07:59] Do you get it?
[01:08:00] Then I'm gonna play with it later
[01:08:01] Like you're gonna see people
[01:08:02] Holding their breath
[01:08:03] And losing their breath
[01:08:04] You're gonna see how they avatar
[01:08:05] Like you come in and out of it
[01:08:06] We'll do fun things with that
[01:08:07] Yeah
[01:08:08] Yeah
[01:08:09] We didn't really talk about
[01:08:10] The lead military guy
[01:08:13] That's who we're talking about right now
[01:08:15] Oh it is
[01:08:16] Yeah
[01:08:17] I don't know people by names
[01:08:18] I get confused
[01:08:19] He's fucking awesome
[01:08:20] He's like a pro-backy
[01:08:21] He's great
[01:08:22] So good
[01:08:23] Yeah
[01:08:24] Alright so let's start over again
[01:08:25] Okay
[01:08:26] Okay
[01:08:27] I podcast you
[01:08:29] I podcast you
[01:08:31] I don't know
[01:08:32] I just think he's
[01:08:33] I think his performance works
[01:08:35] Because at a certain point
[01:08:37] When Jake says
[01:08:38] Like look you lost
[01:08:39] This didn't work
[01:08:40] He should just be like
[01:08:41] Yeah fuck it
[01:08:42] I mean this isn't a war
[01:08:43] Like I don't care
[01:08:44] Yeah
[01:08:45] Like why not just go home
[01:08:46] And make more money
[01:08:47] Or keep you know
[01:08:48] And instead he's like
[01:08:49] No like I'm an asshole
[01:08:51] I just want to win
[01:08:53] I will say
[01:08:54] I mean I don't know if I'm jumping the gun here
[01:08:55] A little bit but like
[01:08:56] Jumping the gun
[01:08:57] The characters in this movie are
[01:08:59] Rit large right
[01:09:00] They're broad
[01:09:01] They're broad sort of characterizations
[01:09:03] And the best performances in the film
[01:09:05] Are the actors who realize that
[01:09:07] And just play big
[01:09:08] Which is mostly the supporting actors
[01:09:09] Like Sigourney, Stephen Lang, Kebony
[01:09:11] Right
[01:09:12] Um
[01:09:13] The thing
[01:09:15] You know
[01:09:16] The camera started teasing out
[01:09:17] Details of the sequels
[01:09:18] He's had like a writer's room
[01:09:19] Set up like a TV show
[01:09:20] Yeah
[01:09:21] His four writers teams
[01:09:22] All of this is what
[01:09:23] Makes me nervous
[01:09:24] They're writing four screenplays
[01:09:25] At the same time
[01:09:26] Right
[01:09:27] And he has like the broad strokes
[01:09:28] The broad characters he wants to introduce
[01:09:29] He has all that sort of in his head
[01:09:31] Right
[01:09:32] And then you get these little teases
[01:09:33] And he's like one of the movies
[01:09:34] Is going to be all about underwater stuff
[01:09:35] And you're like
[01:09:36] Okay what does that mean
[01:09:37] And then it's like
[01:09:38] Sounds like James Cameron
[01:09:39] Right and it's going to be like
[01:09:40] Jake and Atiari's kids
[01:09:41] And I'm like okay what the fuck
[01:09:42] It's just
[01:09:43] Uh but I do feel like
[01:09:44] Watching this movie now
[01:09:45] People talk a lot about
[01:09:47] There's this dumb thing of like
[01:09:49] Avatar made two billion dollars
[01:09:50] No one even talks about it today
[01:09:51] It left no cultural impact
[01:09:53] Right
[01:09:54] And I was watching it and I was like
[01:09:55] Well it is
[01:09:56] I mean the fact that everyone keeps on
[01:09:57] Talking
[01:09:58] Two point seven billion dollars
[01:09:59] Which is insane
[01:10:00] The fact that everyone keeps on
[01:10:01] Talking about the movie leaves
[01:10:02] No cult
[01:10:03] Leaving no cultural impact
[01:10:04] Proves that point wrong
[01:10:06] Because everyone's constantly
[01:10:07] Talking about the movie
[01:10:08] I don't know about constantly
[01:10:09] I do
[01:10:10] There's some argument to the fact
[01:10:11] That like
[01:10:12] You'd think maybe it had a little
[01:10:13] More of a footprint
[01:10:14] And it feels more like
[01:10:16] It was like this huge
[01:10:18] Wonder at the time
[01:10:19] That didn't linger quite as much
[01:10:21] We'll talk about it next week
[01:10:23] We did go to Turuk the first flight
[01:10:25] Yes 100%
[01:10:26] The audience was not
[01:10:27] I would say
[01:10:28] Hugely dialed out
[01:10:29] But I want to tell you
[01:10:30] I think I finally identified
[01:10:31] Why that is
[01:10:32] Why it feels like it left
[01:10:34] Less of a culture on print
[01:10:35] Than other movies of its size
[01:10:37] It's because this isn't
[01:10:38] A character driven movie
[01:10:39] The things that usually really
[01:10:41] Elevate and deepen
[01:10:44] Society's relationship
[01:10:46] To a work of art
[01:10:47] Is when they come really
[01:10:48] Invested in aspects of it
[01:10:50] So it's like you can
[01:10:51] Fucking ship these two characters
[01:10:53] Or make your fan art
[01:10:54] Or buy the thing
[01:10:55] Or whatever it is
[01:10:56] And this movie
[01:10:57] Like it is so total
[01:10:59] In terms of like
[01:11:00] It's a full experiential thing
[01:11:02] But there aren't sort of
[01:11:03] Like iconic scenes
[01:11:05] Or lines
[01:11:06] Or characters
[01:11:07] In the same kind of way
[01:11:08] You know
[01:11:09] Like people weren't
[01:11:10] Fucking crazy about Natiri
[01:11:11] They were like
[01:11:12] Zoe Saldana's really good in that
[01:11:13] But Natiri didn't become
[01:11:14] Like Ray
[01:11:15] You know
[01:11:16] And there's no scene in the movie
[01:11:18] That became like
[01:11:19] You know the iconic thing
[01:11:20] It's cool when she shoots
[01:11:21] In full arrows
[01:11:22] Right you can't really
[01:11:23] Kind of separate this movie
[01:11:25] Into pieces
[01:11:26] It's just you sit in the theater
[01:11:27] In 3D and watch the whole thing
[01:11:28] And of course it was
[01:11:30] A great cinematic experience
[01:11:32] Yeah
[01:11:33] And I think it does say
[01:11:34] Something that when Avatar
[01:11:35] Hit DVD and stuff
[01:11:36] They were like
[01:11:37] 3D TVs
[01:11:38] Everyone's gonna want a 3D TV
[01:11:40] Nobody wants a 3D TV
[01:11:42] It was something
[01:11:43] Especially for a movie that long
[01:11:44] You wanna sit in the theater
[01:11:45] In silence
[01:11:46] In a dark room with a lot of people
[01:11:47] And all feel the collective
[01:11:48] Like awe of the thing
[01:11:49] But I think you know
[01:11:50] I think
[01:11:51] You compare Avatar and Force Awakens
[01:11:54] You can argue
[01:11:55] Which is better
[01:11:56] Which is worse or whatever
[01:11:57] But like every
[01:11:58] There's so many different aspects
[01:11:59] Of Force Awakens
[01:12:00] That people really latched onto
[01:12:01] You know
[01:12:02] That like they like
[01:12:03] Carried with them
[01:12:04] And there were things
[01:12:05] That you could fucking give
[01:12:06] And meme
[01:12:07] That you could also write about
[01:12:08] Force Awakens have
[01:12:09] But I mean it has a lot going for
[01:12:10] Star Wars
[01:12:11] All of that
[01:12:12] In general being wanted
[01:12:13] But of course it does feel a little
[01:12:14] More correctly geared towards
[01:12:16] Like yeah
[01:12:17] And we'll have game
[01:12:18] And we'll have the toys
[01:12:19] And we'll have
[01:12:20] Well and that's
[01:12:21] I'm not saying one's better
[01:12:22] Or one's worse
[01:12:23] And I kind of in a way
[01:12:24] Respect the fact that
[01:12:25] Avatar is like so unconcerned
[01:12:26] With that
[01:12:27] And it's just
[01:12:28] We're just making a movie
[01:12:29] You should sit here
[01:12:30] And watch this movie
[01:12:31] They have totally different challenges
[01:12:32] Avatar is trying to introduce you
[01:12:33] To something in Force Awakens
[01:12:34] Trying to get you back into
[01:12:35] Something and you know
[01:12:36] To erase some of the prequels
[01:12:37] And you know
[01:12:38] I think a lot of movies
[01:12:39] Of this size today
[01:12:40] Are sort of pre-packaging fandoms
[01:12:42] Which this movie doesn't
[01:12:44] Concern itself with doing
[01:12:45] So it feels like
[01:12:46] Avatar hasn't left a cultural footprint
[01:12:48] Because there's so much else
[01:12:49] We're having where it's like
[01:12:50] Well this is made to fucking
[01:12:52] Like make Cumberbatch fans happy
[01:12:54] Or you know
[01:12:55] Like hint at that thing
[01:12:56] That these
[01:12:57] This specific sect of fandom
[01:12:59] Within this fandom
[01:13:01] Of this one property
[01:13:02] Just like this one element
[01:13:04] Or this one relationship
[01:13:06] Or whatever it is
[01:13:07] This movie is just like
[01:13:08] We're just telling a real straight
[01:13:09] Middle of the road
[01:13:10] Dad novel story
[01:13:11] The characters are all
[01:13:12] Lots of Malikens
[01:13:13] One of the first novels
[01:13:15] And most of the characters
[01:13:16] Just serve a function
[01:13:18] Like the characters are sort of
[01:13:19] Like narrative cogs
[01:13:20] You know
[01:13:21] Rather than characters
[01:13:22] You're gonna really like love
[01:13:23] Where I get excited about
[01:13:25] The idea of Avatar sequels
[01:13:27] Is him just making
[01:13:28] Further stories in this world
[01:13:29] Spanning sort of legacies
[01:13:31] And years and what have you
[01:13:33] Rather than like
[01:13:34] The continuing adventures of
[01:13:35] Jake and Natiri
[01:13:36] Yeah I can
[01:13:37] We're not gonna get the
[01:13:38] Continuing adventures of
[01:13:39] Jake and Natiri are we
[01:13:40] Maybe Avatar 2
[01:13:41] Like I love Zoys Aldana
[01:13:43] If you're making 5
[01:13:44] You might have to give it
[01:13:45] A Avatar 2
[01:13:46] I love Zoys Aldana
[01:13:47] And I think she's phenomenal
[01:13:48] In this movie
[01:13:49] I'm not really invested
[01:13:51] Natiri that much
[01:13:52] Alright so here
[01:13:53] Alright so I'm gonna
[01:13:54] Cut you off here
[01:13:55] Let's go back into the film
[01:13:56] Well we're almost done with
[01:13:57] The movie but
[01:13:58] Just in terms of sequel
[01:13:59] Obviously I always say
[01:14:00] Like hey if you want to
[01:14:01] Make Avatar sequels
[01:14:02] You can make them
[01:14:03] And I'm excited
[01:14:04] I will say having seen
[01:14:05] Taruk the first flight
[01:14:06] I think the humans are a good
[01:14:08] Thing to have in Avatar
[01:14:10] I agree
[01:14:11] And I do worry
[01:14:12] What'll happen if maybe
[01:14:13] They're not in the new ones
[01:14:14] Now maybe they will be
[01:14:15] I have no I don't know
[01:14:16] Like you hear
[01:14:17] Steven Lange's gonna
[01:14:18] Be in him so like who knows
[01:14:19] And Sigourney Weaver
[01:14:20] And Sigourney Weaver's always
[01:14:21] Like but she's always
[01:14:22] Like I'm in it baby
[01:14:23] And they're like how
[01:14:24] And she's like I don't know
[01:14:25] I'm gonna be in it
[01:14:26] James Cary
[01:14:27] She's like Jim just tells me
[01:14:28] That no one stays dead
[01:14:29] In sci-fi
[01:14:30] But that kinda scares me
[01:14:31] I mean I agree you still need
[01:14:32] A human presence in this movie
[01:14:33] And you need the tension
[01:14:34] In some sort of way
[01:14:35] Between the two forces
[01:14:36] But on the other hand
[01:14:37] Bringing back the two main characters
[01:14:39] Who died in this movie
[01:14:40] Makes the universe feel very small
[01:14:42] And I think those are both
[01:14:44] Really strong performances
[01:14:45] But neither are like
[01:14:46] Incredible characters where it's
[01:14:47] Like the God of Bring Back
[01:14:48] Will be one of the four of us
[01:14:49] You know like that's sequel talk
[01:14:50] We're gonna see what they do
[01:14:51] Right
[01:14:52] But I just feel like
[01:14:53] It's the human shit is almost
[01:14:55] Underrated in this movie
[01:14:56] You need it as the bound
[01:14:57] And so
[01:14:58] But for five Avatar movies
[01:14:59] I want them to broaden the scope
[01:15:00] I want them to go in different directions
[01:15:01] No but no but you saw Tauruk
[01:15:02] You saw it
[01:15:03] And when it's like
[01:15:04] The Amitykaya clan
[01:15:05] And the other clan
[01:15:06] Are arguing about
[01:15:07] How to make a dinosaur skeleton
[01:15:08] You're like
[01:15:09] Oh I'm
[01:15:10] This is in too deep
[01:15:11] This is like fan fiction
[01:15:12] But I say this in the Tauruk episode
[01:15:14] And I'll say it again now
[01:15:15] What's the difference between
[01:15:16] Tauruk and the Avatar series
[01:15:17] Just to explain to you guys
[01:15:18] Tauruk is this fucking
[01:15:19] Cirque du Soleil show
[01:15:20] That we saw months ago
[01:15:21] And recorded an episode
[01:15:22] Months ago
[01:15:23] And we're finally gonna release it
[01:15:24] Next week
[01:15:25] And you're gonna listen to that episode
[01:15:26] That was recorded before
[01:15:27] We had recorded any of the James
[01:15:28] Cameron episodes
[01:15:29] Yeah any of it
[01:15:30] Yeah before the election happened
[01:15:32] And we had to predict what happened on it
[01:15:34] Jesus Christ
[01:15:36] The difference is that
[01:15:37] James Cameron did director
[01:15:39] No I know
[01:15:40] I know
[01:15:41] I'm just saying
[01:15:42] Like it just
[01:15:43] Just gave me a little
[01:15:44] Tell me stories in the Avatar universe
[01:15:45] I don't know
[01:15:46] I mean at this point
[01:15:47] The full war
[01:15:48] Suze dies
[01:15:49] Awaw hears him
[01:15:50] And then he gets into
[01:15:51] Just this seems the action so crisp
[01:15:53] Great
[01:15:54] It's so understandable
[01:15:56] Like what's going on
[01:15:57] I think the creature design
[01:15:58] Is really good
[01:15:59] All the monsters are cool
[01:16:00] But like all this stuff have jaked
[01:16:01] Like flying
[01:16:02] Jumping off
[01:16:03] Throwing a grenade
[01:16:04] Jumping back on
[01:16:05] You know blowing up the ship
[01:16:06] You see what the ship does
[01:16:07] Yeah that shit's good
[01:16:08] Suze gets into the fight
[01:16:10] The physics of him swinging
[01:16:13] Like on the Tauruk
[01:16:15] Is so cool
[01:16:16] Yeah
[01:16:17] So well done
[01:16:18] Suze's death I like a lot
[01:16:20] Because it's like
[01:16:21] We've gotten very few scenes
[01:16:22] Sorry
[01:16:23] Of humans next to Navi
[01:16:25] And it's one of the few times
[01:16:26] Where you see the scale
[01:16:27] And it's like
[01:16:28] Oh he just looks so clunky
[01:16:29] I mean it's like watching like
[01:16:30] Manu bowl play basketball
[01:16:32] Where it's like
[01:16:33] His limbs are too long
[01:16:34] Like he doesn't know how to do shit
[01:16:35] But it is they
[01:16:36] And they doing a good job
[01:16:37] Integrating the two of them
[01:16:38] Really good job
[01:16:39] Him and the humans together
[01:16:40] He gets into a robot knife fight
[01:16:41] With Korra
[01:16:42] I would say by the way
[01:16:43] The extended edition adds that scene
[01:16:44] With Suze where you see him later
[01:16:45] Not a good scene
[01:16:46] Really bad scene
[01:16:47] Really bad scene
[01:16:48] And really bad in
[01:16:49] The flow of the movie as well
[01:16:50] Like really interrupts
[01:16:51] The flow of the movie
[01:16:52] Yeah because it happens right before
[01:16:53] There's a scene in the extended edition
[01:16:54] Where Suze is dying
[01:16:56] And he tells Jake
[01:16:57] That he has to take over the clan
[01:16:58] Jake's like I don't know
[01:16:59] And he's like also please kill me
[01:17:00] Yeah and you're just like
[01:17:01] You know we got all of that
[01:17:03] We got the jakes passing the torch
[01:17:06] You know thing
[01:17:07] It sucks
[01:17:08] But yeah
[01:17:09] The battle is just so good
[01:17:10] I know it's like the best part
[01:17:11] Of the movie
[01:17:12] And we're almost skimming over it
[01:17:13] But go watch it
[01:17:14] That's all points
[01:17:15] It's a visceral experience
[01:17:16] No way for us to talk about it
[01:17:17] And it's even hard to watch in 2D
[01:17:19] You know so
[01:17:20] God forbid the two of us
[01:17:21] Try to talk about it here
[01:17:22] In our 2D podcast
[01:17:23] Where are the 2D friends
[01:17:24] Where the 2D friends
[01:17:25] Yeah the first dimension is audio
[01:17:28] The second dimension is friendship
[01:17:30] So they have a knife fight
[01:17:31] In the robot suit
[01:17:32] And I like that
[01:17:34] Natiri's the one who kills
[01:17:36] The Quarish
[01:17:37] That she's the one who saves the day
[01:17:39] You know that most of the fight
[01:17:40] Happens between Jake
[01:17:41] And then he rips open the pod
[01:17:44] So Jake is like fucking out of it
[01:17:45] And he's like suffocating
[01:17:47] And then Natiri
[01:17:48] With the arrows
[01:17:49] Shoots three cool arrows
[01:17:50] Into his chest
[01:17:51] And Natiri
[01:17:52] It's great
[01:17:53] That scene is cool that she gets to do it too
[01:17:55] Yeah that's what I'm saying
[01:17:56] I like that
[01:17:57] Avatar
[01:17:58] And then you know
[01:18:00] Then they plug him
[01:18:01] And we should say Grace dies
[01:18:02] Grace dies
[01:18:03] And they try to plug her into A-Wa
[01:18:05] And she says I'm with her
[01:18:06] But then she dies
[01:18:07] But I think she's in that tree
[01:18:09] They also make her some plant underwear
[01:18:11] They do
[01:18:12] She's naked but they put plants
[01:18:13] Over her naughty parts
[01:18:14] I would say this is maybe those scenes
[01:18:16] Where they try and plug them
[01:18:18] Into A-Wa tree
[01:18:19] And all the avatars are around
[01:18:21] All that Naviar around sweet
[01:18:23] Like a
[01:18:24] There's like glowing pulsing ground
[01:18:26] Feels a little too rookie
[01:18:27] Well I just think yeah
[01:18:28] That's like probably where some people are like
[01:18:30] Yo fuck this shit
[01:18:32] Like this is stupid
[01:18:34] I forgot my favorite line
[01:18:35] Or line reading in the movie
[01:18:37] Is the scene where
[01:18:39] Susie realizes that
[01:18:41] Natiri slept with Jake Sully
[01:18:43] And he puts her on blast in front of her parents
[01:18:45] And then it just cuts to
[01:18:47] So gournese avatar
[01:18:49] And she just goes oh shit
[01:18:51] Like you fucking kidding me
[01:18:53] Yeah
[01:18:54] You had hair sucks with the princess
[01:18:56] I think it's great
[01:18:57] I think she's really funny
[01:18:59] It is really, you're right
[01:19:00] It's really funny
[01:19:01] She's got her plant bra
[01:19:02] She dies
[01:19:03] They try to connect to the tree
[01:19:04] Natiri shoots Quaritch
[01:19:06] And then they try to connect her to her avatar
[01:19:08] They're trying to like download her brain into her avatar
[01:19:10] I think the implication is that she's in the tree
[01:19:12] But not in the avatar
[01:19:14] I think it's how she's gonna come back
[01:19:15] And then they can get around that tree
[01:19:16] I think she's gonna be in that tree
[01:19:17] You can get her out of that tree
[01:19:18] And then she plays the tree in the next movie
[01:19:20] That's my hope
[01:19:21] Is that they don't put her back in the body
[01:19:22] That sounds like some Pocahontas shit
[01:19:23] That's what I like
[01:19:24] Grandmother Willow Tree baby
[01:19:25] Just around the river bend
[01:19:27] Yeah, like Grandmother Willow Tree
[01:19:29] One of the worst
[01:19:30] One of the worst Disney films ever made
[01:19:32] River bend
[01:19:33] I like Pocahontas a lot
[01:19:34] I think the first 30 minutes of Pocahontas are immaculate
[01:19:36] I think it's a gorgeous looking movie for sure
[01:19:38] And I do think the beginning is pretty strong
[01:19:40] I think the first 30 minutes are narratively really strong
[01:19:42] That's a fairly objectionable film
[01:19:44] I think the first 30 minutes rule
[01:19:45] And the songs are getting throughout
[01:19:47] I think the songs are good
[01:19:48] No, that was when the songs started to get bad
[01:19:50] Will I marry Cocoa?
[01:19:52] Yeah, there you go
[01:19:54] Savages
[01:19:55] That's not talking about savages
[01:19:57] Alright, so
[01:19:59] Avatar
[01:20:00] Mine
[01:20:01] At the end
[01:20:03] No, no
[01:20:04] We're doing well
[01:20:05] But at the end
[01:20:06] They put him in the Jake Bobby
[01:20:08] Jake Avatar
[01:20:09] Right?
[01:20:10] Yeah
[01:20:11] Eyes open
[01:20:12] Avatar
[01:20:13] They get the humans out of there
[01:20:14] And then Rebesa gives like a little shit
[01:20:16] And like, you know
[01:20:18] It wins if you lose some
[01:20:19] And then they hook him up and he's Avatar
[01:20:21] Now when I walked out of the film I went
[01:20:23] That's a nice perfect closed off story
[01:20:25] That's the tale
[01:20:26] He becomes the Avatar
[01:20:27] He finds a new lease on life
[01:20:28] They shouldn't make sequels
[01:20:29] Watching it now
[01:20:31] Seven years later
[01:20:32] With all the sort of
[01:20:33] You know, unfulfilled promises
[01:20:35] Of the Avatar sequels
[01:20:36] I'm actually like
[01:20:37] You know what?
[01:20:38] I'm done with this one
[01:20:39] I just want to see the other ones
[01:20:40] Like I'm like
[01:20:41] I now like knowing where he's
[01:20:42] That he's got such big plans for it
[01:20:45] Now I look at this movie as like
[01:20:46] Table setting in a way
[01:20:48] You know, I want to see him
[01:20:49] Just fucking live in this universe
[01:20:51] Totally
[01:20:52] Now that we know all the rules
[01:20:53] I'm into that too
[01:20:54] I mean, as long as the movie's good
[01:20:55] Yeah, I just don't want
[01:20:56] I saw Chorok the first flight
[01:20:57] To bring back all the human characters
[01:20:58] So
[01:20:59] I wanted to go in weird directions
[01:21:00] I wanted to tell tales
[01:21:01] We'll see
[01:21:02] Who knows
[01:21:03] I want a new planet
[01:21:04] I want a new Avatar
[01:21:06] Well, he's talked about that too
[01:21:08] I would love
[01:21:09] You'll visit some of the other planets
[01:21:10] In the Prometheus system or whatever
[01:21:11] I would love that so much
[01:21:13] So
[01:21:14] That's the most in-picture Avatar
[01:21:16] Merchandise Spotlight
[01:21:18] Oh
[01:21:19] Yes
[01:21:20] So this movie had
[01:21:21] Some of the worst selling merchandise
[01:21:22] For a blockbuster film in history
[01:21:24] Yeah, because like you say
[01:21:25] No one cares about the characters
[01:21:26] So they didn't do it
[01:21:27] Even the creatures and the vehicles
[01:21:28] Didn't sell well
[01:21:29] But it did produce
[01:21:30] What in my opinion is one
[01:21:31] Of the funniest action figures ever made
[01:21:32] Which is
[01:21:33] The Parker Self-Rate action figure
[01:21:35] Let me see
[01:21:36] So you talk about a film where
[01:21:37] I mean even
[01:21:38] No one even wants to buy
[01:21:39] Like a fucking Grace Augustine
[01:21:40] Right?
[01:21:41] That's not sticking in the craw
[01:21:42] And the Avatar is even
[01:21:43] The Naviz didn't even do well
[01:21:45] Parker Self-Rate is
[01:21:46] Just G. Avonio Rabisi
[01:21:48] Dressed up business casual
[01:21:49] Coming with
[01:21:51] A golf club
[01:21:52] Love it
[01:21:53] Because his first scene of the movie
[01:21:54] He plays golf into a mud
[01:21:55] This doesn't look like
[01:21:56] Hit it all
[01:21:57] It looks nothing like him
[01:21:58] There's no appeal in that thing existing
[01:21:59] Even if you're like me
[01:22:00] And you love G. Avonio Rabisi
[01:22:01] And Avatar
[01:22:02] It's just a dude in slacks
[01:22:03] A shirt and a striped tie
[01:22:05] Real
[01:22:06] And he's got a golf putter
[01:22:07] Alright
[01:22:08] That's all it is
[01:22:09] It's a great action figure
[01:22:10] By great I mean terrible
[01:22:11] Okay
[01:22:12] The film won three Oscars
[01:22:13] Wait wait also
[01:22:14] Slots
[01:22:15] Oh and now they're making slot machines
[01:22:16] They're expanding the brand
[01:22:17] With Turok and slot machines
[01:22:18] They're the two big
[01:22:19] That's how you know movies
[01:22:20] That hit when you make a slot machine
[01:22:21] Okay
[01:22:22] That's a merchandise spotlight
[01:22:24] It also holds really badly
[01:22:25] You can probably buy it on eBay
[01:22:26] For like two cents
[01:22:27] Film won three Oscars
[01:22:28] Spotlight
[01:22:29] Click
[01:22:30] Turned off
[01:22:31] Great
[01:22:32] Can you name the three Oscars
[01:22:33] One
[01:22:34] Yes
[01:22:35] It won
[01:22:36] Production Design
[01:22:37] Robert Stromberg is
[01:22:38] His name
[01:22:39] And they call it
[01:22:40] Right
[01:22:41] And then he also directed
[01:22:42] Maleficent
[01:22:43] Which is a bad movie
[01:22:44] Stromberg did
[01:22:45] Yes
[01:22:46] Art directors don't direct well
[01:22:48] Often no
[01:22:49] You're thinking Bowel
[01:22:51] Yeah who was a great art director
[01:22:52] And made the catnip
[01:22:53] Hey sometimes
[01:22:54] I don't know
[01:22:55] Carry on
[01:22:56] But yes
[01:22:57] Catnip Hardwick was an art director too
[01:22:58] I think
[01:22:59] Anyway she turned out well
[01:23:00] I can't remember
[01:23:01] I believe she started as an art director
[01:23:02] Anyway
[01:23:03] It also won a best cinematography
[01:23:05] Which is odd
[01:23:06] Mauro Fiori
[01:23:07] So that was I think the general Oscar voting pool
[01:23:10] Being like what a good looking movie
[01:23:12] But indeed it's not the cinematography
[01:23:15] That's good
[01:23:16] It's the animation
[01:23:17] And the visual effects
[01:23:18] And the work they put into lighting
[01:23:20] I mean there's some
[01:23:21] I don't know
[01:23:22] Especially watching it in 2D at home
[01:23:25] The fully live action scenes
[01:23:26] Look a little flat to me
[01:23:27] Sometimes
[01:23:28] But they look flat
[01:23:29] Because you can tell they're composed
[01:23:30] To pop in 3D
[01:23:31] And they're very brightly
[01:23:32] And plainly lit
[01:23:33] Because the images need to come through
[01:23:34] Right I just saw Billy Lynn's half time walk
[01:23:36] It's got that problem
[01:23:37] Yeah
[01:23:38] I saw it in 2D
[01:23:39] But this was the beginning of
[01:23:40] This was the first digital film
[01:23:42] To win best cinematography
[01:23:44] And then after this
[01:23:45] Four out of the five next
[01:23:47] Best cinematography winners are 3D movies
[01:23:49] That are mostly CGI
[01:23:51] Most of those winners are really bad winners
[01:23:52] Because Hugo, Life of Pi and Gravity
[01:23:55] And didn't you know
[01:23:56] Yeah Life of Pi
[01:23:57] Right four out of the five are those
[01:23:58] So it's a very weird precedent
[01:24:00] That's now set where there are digital 3D movies
[01:24:01] That are mostly computer generated
[01:24:02] It's because stupid Oscar voters
[01:24:04] They're like oh it looks good
[01:24:05] Best cinematography means
[01:24:06] Yeah what's the movie that looked good
[01:24:08] Right
[01:24:09] Because there's no 3D award
[01:24:10] Anyway
[01:24:11] The only good cinematography win
[01:24:13] That they've given out recently
[01:24:14] Was Inception in 2010
[01:24:16] Which is actually kind of a surprising win
[01:24:17] Yeah
[01:24:18] But I mean those two Chivo wins
[01:24:20] I don't know
[01:24:21] I love Chivo
[01:24:22] Chivo's good
[01:24:23] I don't know I don't know Bermit
[01:24:24] Whatever it doesn't matter
[01:24:25] My boy Wally Fester though
[01:24:27] Wrapping that hard
[01:24:28] Love Wally
[01:24:29] So box office though
[01:24:30] Yeah
[01:24:31] First we'll play the game
[01:24:32] Well actually you know
[01:24:33] It's just to give you
[01:24:34] Yeah
[01:24:35] It's just to recount
[01:24:36] It was incredible
[01:24:37] Opens to 77
[01:24:38] Yeah
[01:24:39] Next weekend 75
[01:24:40] 1.8 drop
[01:24:41] Okay
[01:24:42] Next weekend 68
[01:24:43] 50
[01:24:44] 42
[01:24:45] 54
[01:24:46] And then it starts
[01:24:47] That's Martin Luther King weekend
[01:24:48] 54
[01:24:49] Yes that's Martin Luther King
[01:24:50] There's a bump for a four day weekend
[01:24:51] Yeah
[01:24:52] And then it starts to go down
[01:24:53] You know 34
[01:24:54] 31
[01:24:55] 22
[01:24:56] 23
[01:24:57] But then back
[01:24:58] 31 is week what
[01:24:59] 31 is week 7
[01:25:00] Yeah that's insane
[01:25:01] Yeah it is pretty insane
[01:25:02] At that point the movie had made
[01:25:03] And also we should note
[01:25:04] These are weekends I'm giving you
[01:25:06] The other thing was every day
[01:25:07] The movie was making like
[01:25:08] Tons of money
[01:25:09] Huge week day numbers
[01:25:10] Not only just the first couple weeks
[01:25:12] During the holidays
[01:25:13] But even after that
[01:25:14] It was making like
[01:25:15] 20 million dollars a day
[01:25:16] Yeah
[01:25:17] On a week day
[01:25:18] My brother and my dad
[01:25:19] It made like
[01:25:20] By this week 7 it's made
[01:25:21] 600 million dollars
[01:25:22] Which is pretty much number one
[01:25:23] My brother and my dad
[01:25:24] When like the
[01:25:26] Barry Bonds
[01:25:27] Not Barry
[01:25:28] That same as so
[01:25:29] Mark McGuire thing was going on
[01:25:30] And it was like
[01:25:31] Home run record
[01:25:32] It's coming every day in the newspaper
[01:25:33] There'd be like
[01:25:34] Another one
[01:25:35] Another one
[01:25:36] They're getting closer
[01:25:37] Who's gonna win right
[01:25:38] I remember that like
[01:25:39] Excitement over that
[01:25:40] Was like
[01:25:41] Oh man I wish there was a thing
[01:25:42] Like this that I gave a shit about
[01:25:43] Right
[01:25:44] The way my father and I
[01:25:45] We were so invested
[01:25:46] In tracking this movie on a week
[01:25:47] Doing basis being like
[01:25:48] It's gonna do it
[01:25:49] Because it had been like
[01:25:50] 12 years since Titanic
[01:25:51] And it was like
[01:25:52] Is it gonna
[01:25:53] Crap out
[01:25:54] All it needs is
[01:25:55] One big drop off weekend
[01:25:56] And it won't catch Titanic
[01:25:57] But it never had the big drop
[01:25:58] Yeah
[01:25:59] The drops were always
[01:26:00] Had the legs to do it
[01:26:01] And it beat Titanic by like
[01:26:02] $150 million
[01:26:03] Domestic
[01:26:04] Okay so the second weekend
[01:26:06] Was the weekend where
[01:26:07] It really proved its saying power
[01:26:08] And that was the biggest weekend
[01:26:10] In box office history
[01:26:11] There's never been a higher
[01:26:12] Grossing weekend
[01:26:13] That's Christmas weekend
[01:26:14] And Sherlock Holmes
[01:26:15] And now on the trip monks
[01:26:16] The squeak will open
[01:26:17] So I remember that
[01:26:18] I'm trying to reverse engineer
[01:26:19] From there
[01:26:20] What opens
[01:26:21] We're talking December
[01:26:22] December 18th 2009
[01:26:25] Avatar opens to
[01:26:27] $77 million
[01:26:29] In 3,400 screens
[01:26:31] No a good opening
[01:26:32] For an original film
[01:26:33] But at the time they were like
[01:26:34] They were like well yeah
[01:26:35] Again it was sort of the thing
[01:26:36] Of well if it holds
[01:26:37] Titanic style then sure
[01:26:38] It's gonna do great
[01:26:39] But what are the chances
[01:26:40] Of something holding Titanic style
[01:26:41] Some ten of them
[01:26:42] Number two was
[01:26:44] Disney animated film
[01:26:45] Uh Princess and the Frog
[01:26:46] Yes
[01:26:47] Cool
[01:26:48] Which is okay
[01:26:49] I think it's fine
[01:26:51] It's fine
[01:26:52] I don't really care about it
[01:26:53] Me neither
[01:26:54] $12 million and it's fourth week
[01:26:56] Okay
[01:26:57] Pretty good
[01:26:58] I'm still at $100
[01:26:59] Uh that's right
[01:27:00] Still ends up killing
[01:27:01] Traditional animation forever
[01:27:02] Pretty much
[01:27:03] Number three is
[01:27:04] A film that I despised
[01:27:06] That was one of the biggest
[01:27:07] Box office sensations of the year
[01:27:09] I got two Oscar nominations
[01:27:12] One win
[01:27:13] Yeah I believe it's my
[01:27:14] Least favorite film of 2009
[01:27:15] It's called The Blind Side
[01:27:16] Really terrible movie
[01:27:17] Yep
[01:27:18] Although effective
[01:27:19] I can't deny when you watch it
[01:27:20] You know it's effective
[01:27:21] In the same way that like
[01:27:23] A human interest story on the news
[01:27:24] Is kind of effective
[01:27:25] Sure
[01:27:26] You're rooting for people
[01:27:27] Sandra Bullock I think is incredible
[01:27:29] In the film
[01:27:30] Oh I think she's bad in it
[01:27:31] Yeah well you're dead
[01:27:33] I think that's a bad performer
[01:27:34] No that the whole movie
[01:27:35] Only works because of her
[01:27:36] I think the movie doesn't work
[01:27:37] And she's not good at it
[01:27:39] That's crazy
[01:27:40] That movie do you want to give me
[01:27:41] The run time
[01:27:42] The run time on that film
[01:27:43] It's just long
[01:27:44] Yeah what that movie's two and a half
[01:27:45] No it's not two and a half
[01:27:46] It's like two fifteen
[01:27:47] That movie did two fifty domestic
[01:27:48] Right
[01:27:49] Uh the movie eventually makes
[01:27:50] $255 million domestic
[01:27:52] That isn't insane for that movie
[01:27:54] On like a twenty eight million
[01:27:55] But it's huge
[01:27:56] Like the rookie made forty three million
[01:27:59] And people were like that's a huge hit
[01:28:00] Great movie
[01:28:01] A little inspirational sports movie
[01:28:02] Okay
[01:28:03] Number four is a piece of shit comedy
[01:28:06] Starring two kind of washed up comedy actors
[01:28:09] Not even comedy actors
[01:28:11] Just I don't know
[01:28:13] Just shit people
[01:28:14] It's a piece of shit comedy
[01:28:16] Staring two pieces of shit
[01:28:18] We don't need to talk about this
[01:28:19] The title is a question
[01:28:22] The title is a question
[01:28:24] So it's not what the words that can happen
[01:28:26] It opened to six million dollars
[01:28:27] It made twenty nine on a sixty million budget
[01:28:30] Who is this
[01:28:32] This isn't its opening weekend is it
[01:28:33] This is its opening weekend
[01:28:34] This is its opening weekend
[01:28:35] I have no idea why they were opening
[01:28:36] I guess it was counter-programming to Avatar
[01:28:38] Cause it's like a rom-com kind of
[01:28:40] It's a rom-com
[01:28:41] But it also was one of those movies
[01:28:42] That came out right after the recession
[01:28:44] That was about how evil rich people were
[01:28:46] I know exactly what film this is
[01:28:47] I saw it in theaters
[01:28:48] It's called did you hear about the mortgage
[01:28:49] Why did you see that in theaters
[01:28:50] Cause Romley wants to see it
[01:28:51] Romley loved
[01:28:52] You can't
[01:28:53] That was her favorite actor
[01:28:54] There just can't park
[01:28:55] Even for Hugh Grant that's a real low
[01:28:57] That one
[01:28:58] That movie is tough
[01:29:00] God
[01:29:01] Wilford Brimley, Mary Steenberg
[01:29:02] And this guy's a tax-supporting cast
[01:29:03] And it's one of the hardest watches
[01:29:05] I've had to sit there
[01:29:06] You know I recently watched The China Syndrome
[01:29:07] On TCM
[01:29:08] Which I'd never seen before
[01:29:09] Which is Wilford Brimley's first performance
[01:29:11] Which is pretty funny cause he's like
[01:29:12] A bald fat old man in it
[01:29:14] But he's great
[01:29:15] Well he's like 42 and cocoon
[01:29:16] I know well he's one of those guys
[01:29:18] Who just always looked old
[01:29:19] Yeah
[01:29:20] Alright number five is
[01:29:21] The second in an incredibly popular franchise
[01:29:24] Of films that has already been forgotten
[01:29:26] The second and incredibly
[01:29:28] How many were there in total
[01:29:30] Five
[01:29:31] There were five in total
[01:29:33] This one has made in its fifth week
[01:29:35] It makes four million and a 275
[01:29:37] Total
[01:29:39] So far
[01:29:40] Eventually grosses 297
[01:29:43] Twilight and Moon
[01:29:44] Yes
[01:29:45] The worst of the Twilight
[01:29:47] Easily
[01:29:48] I think Eclipse is the worst
[01:29:50] No Eclipse is the best
[01:29:52] Actually
[01:29:53] Eclipse I've been very boring
[01:29:54] No Eclipse is fun
[01:29:55] It's like a dumb action movie
[01:29:56] Well that's why I think Breaking Dawn Part 2
[01:29:57] Is kinda good
[01:29:58] Breaking Dawn also fun
[01:29:59] But New Moon is the one that's the most ponderous
[01:30:01] It's just like
[01:30:02] Do you like Jacob or Edward
[01:30:05] Nothing happens
[01:30:07] Nothing happens in the film
[01:30:09] I would go Breaking Dawn Part 2
[01:30:11] Then Twilight
[01:30:12] Then
[01:30:13] Twilight 1 is
[01:30:14] Not a good movie
[01:30:15] No but it's at least fun
[01:30:17] It's swinging for the fancies
[01:30:18] The first Twilight's crazy
[01:30:19] I don't think any of them are good
[01:30:21] No they're all bad
[01:30:22] I think Twilight 1 though at least is like
[01:30:24] It's got some pep in its step
[01:30:26] Some other movies in Victus
[01:30:28] You think it's already been forgotten?
[01:30:30] A little bit
[01:30:31] I mean I think its actors are sticking around
[01:30:33] And that's fine but
[01:30:34] Case do best in the biz
[01:30:35] I don't know that that movie has
[01:30:37] Has really lingered in the cultural consciousness
[01:30:39] I think the idea of the movie has a little bit
[01:30:41] But I don't think people are out here
[01:30:43] Like people out here still being like
[01:30:45] This is my favorite Harry Potter movie
[01:30:47] That's yours
[01:30:48] I think Hunger Games came back in so quickly
[01:30:51] Hunger Games was really like
[01:30:53] Before Twilight was even done already
[01:30:55] Taking the bloom off the road
[01:30:56] Run a lap around it
[01:30:58] And then also
[01:31:00] There's been a second wave Harry Potter thing now
[01:31:02] There were even this second wave
[01:31:03] Because Harry Potter is still popular
[01:31:05] It's sticking around
[01:31:06] People are like
[01:31:07] Wait is Harry Potter still the best?
[01:31:08] Long kids read it
[01:31:09] It's popular again
[01:31:10] It's taking over new generations
[01:31:11] Some other movies in Victus
[01:31:12] Which sucks at bad movie
[01:31:14] Quite a bad movie when you switch biopic
[01:31:16] Morgan Freeman, Ness Mandela
[01:31:18] Christmas Carol, The Jim Carrey Christmas Carol
[01:31:20] Never saw it
[01:31:21] Yeah it's
[01:31:22] I mean I don't like this
[01:31:23] It's a mech
[01:31:24] I don't even hear it
[01:31:25] I'm supposed to talk to him soon
[01:31:26] I want to do the mech
[01:31:27] Ask him if we should cover him on the podcast
[01:31:29] Ask him if he'd be a guest
[01:31:30] You should ask him if he'd be a guest
[01:31:32] Bobby Z
[01:31:33] Bobby Z
[01:31:34] Up in the air
[01:31:35] Which was of course one of the big hits of the year
[01:31:37] Yeah and is definitely a movie
[01:31:38] Yeah it's fine
[01:31:39] It's fine
[01:31:40] It's kind of well acted
[01:31:41] Clooney's good in this
[01:31:42] Really good acting
[01:31:43] Good Clooney
[01:31:44] I think for me goes great
[01:31:45] I know I would have given Kendrick the Oscar that year
[01:31:47] So good in that movie
[01:31:48] Who wins in 0-9
[01:31:49] It's Monique isn't it
[01:31:50] Oh yeah
[01:31:51] Yeah actually I would have given
[01:31:52] Yeah but Kendrick's
[01:31:53] I just like Kendrick too
[01:31:54] I would have given it to Pramiga
[01:31:56] Um brothers
[01:31:57] Oh yeah that movie
[01:31:59] That's fine
[01:32:00] That's the Jim Sheridan remake
[01:32:01] Remake yeah
[01:32:02] With Nellie Portman yeah
[01:32:03] Toby's good in that one
[01:32:04] Old Dogs
[01:32:05] Hey
[01:32:06] Your favorite sticking around there
[01:32:08] Yeah
[01:32:09] Uh it's a great movie
[01:32:10] What was the final domestic on Old Dogs 57?
[01:32:12] 49
[01:32:13] 39
[01:32:14] Really?
[01:32:15] Not so good
[01:32:16] No even worse than I thought
[01:32:17] Although Beaded's budget 35 budget
[01:32:18] Yeah they would also sit on a shelf for two years
[01:32:20] Yeah uh yeah 2012
[01:32:22] Kind of a weird year
[01:32:25] Because like a lot of good movies
[01:32:26] Not a lot of good hit movies
[01:32:27] No
[01:32:28] Although there is Star Trek
[01:32:29] Which is great
[01:32:30] District 9 was a hit
[01:32:31] Up
[01:32:32] I don't like District 9
[01:32:33] I don't love up
[01:32:34] Although up's okay
[01:32:35] I think I like both those movies
[01:32:36] Up is lesser Pixar for me
[01:32:37] District 9 I don't love
[01:32:38] But I think is solid
[01:32:39] District 9 is just one of those things where
[01:32:41] I'm into it for 45 minutes
[01:32:42] And then when the action kicks off
[01:32:43] I'm out
[01:32:44] Like you know which is where
[01:32:45] I you know Avatar's the opposite
[01:32:47] Uh Transformers the Ram to the Fall
[01:32:48] And is a Nightmare
[01:32:50] Yeah that was that year too
[01:32:51] Right that's that was the number one
[01:32:52] Film of the Year until Avatar came in
[01:32:53] At the last second swooped it up
[01:32:55] So sequel ideas
[01:32:56] Let's wrap this up
[01:32:57] But uh
[01:32:58] You know we talked about the sequels Ben
[01:33:00] Any sequel ideas for Avatar
[01:33:02] I mean this is it
[01:33:03] Like we're now looking ahead
[01:33:05] Yeah
[01:33:06] Cameron keeps getting a blank check
[01:33:07] He got another one from this
[01:33:08] Well this is what I
[01:33:09] And his blank check this time
[01:33:10] Was four blank checks or five
[01:33:12] Or whatever new fucking sequels
[01:33:13] He's gonna make
[01:33:14] This is my final thought
[01:33:15] That I want to throw out there
[01:33:17] Okay
[01:33:18] And this might be controversial
[01:33:19] And I've already incurred your wrath
[01:33:22] Too many times in this episode
[01:33:24] So much wrath
[01:33:25] Watching this movie last night
[01:33:26] A thought that kept on coming to me was
[01:33:28] I wish this movie hit a flop
[01:33:30] Go on
[01:33:31] I'm interested
[01:33:33] I mean I don't agree
[01:33:34] Yeah
[01:33:35] Well because the film's the film
[01:33:37] Regardless we have it either way
[01:33:39] I like this movie right
[01:33:41] But I would be more interested to see
[01:33:44] What would have happened to James Cameron
[01:33:46] If this movie had
[01:33:47] If not even completely flopped
[01:33:49] But disappointed
[01:33:51] Where his next steps would be
[01:33:53] Yeah I mean that's interesting
[01:33:55] Virtual fiction or whatever
[01:33:56] I don't know
[01:33:57] I think this film plays to its strengths
[01:33:58] But it's also kind of safe
[01:33:59] I think uh
[01:34:00] He said a lot like
[01:34:02] You know I um
[01:34:03] Every story I have left
[01:34:05] That I want to tell as a filmmaker
[01:34:06] I can tell in the Avatar universe
[01:34:08] Which I like Avatar
[01:34:10] I'm interested in where he goes with it
[01:34:11] I'm not that invested in the Avatar universe
[01:34:13] Certainly not in the characters
[01:34:14] I'd love to see him generating
[01:34:16] New different stuff
[01:34:18] And I also think anytime he's had
[01:34:20] A little bit of a setback
[01:34:21] He usually comes back with strong work
[01:34:23] There's only, what do you mean?
[01:34:25] There's only Abyss T2
[01:34:27] Uh and you know True Lies
[01:34:29] Which was not as well received as the previous ones
[01:34:31] Leads into Titanic
[01:34:33] And Piranha turns into
[01:34:34] First Terminator
[01:34:35] That doesn't count
[01:34:36] That does not count
[01:34:38] I'd like to see him on the back of his heels a little bit
[01:34:40] Um and I uh
[01:34:42] You know
[01:34:43] That's an interesting argument
[01:34:44] My worry I guess would partly be that he'd be like
[01:34:46] Alright fine I'm just going to dive under the water
[01:34:48] For the rest of my life
[01:34:49] That's the fear
[01:34:50] You know he'd be like you know what
[01:34:51] Take your shitty movies
[01:34:52] But there was even a-
[01:34:53] And I like about him and he's like
[01:34:54] No let's push this tech
[01:34:55] He's giving interviews where he's like
[01:34:56] I want 3D where you can't even put on
[01:34:57] We don't even need to put on glasses
[01:34:58] Like he wants to mess around
[01:35:00] I don't know let him mess around with Avatar
[01:35:02] There was the talk of him doing
[01:35:04] The Cleopatra movie with Angel Angel Lee
[01:35:06] Which is like
[01:35:07] I don't want to see that
[01:35:08] Absolutely not
[01:35:09] Don't make Cleopatra movies
[01:35:10] That's not weird shit
[01:35:11] That's boring shit
[01:35:12] I like
[01:35:13] No that sounds like such a good-
[01:35:14] Avatar 2 is more interesting than Cleopatra
[01:35:16] I would rather see Cleopatra just because
[01:35:18] I want to see him do different stuff
[01:35:20] I think he would
[01:35:21] That would be terrible
[01:35:22] Ugh
[01:35:23] I'm sure it'd be terrible
[01:35:24] I want to see it though
[01:35:25] No that would be so bad
[01:35:26] Thank God that never happened
[01:35:28] She's too old for that now right
[01:35:29] She doesn't want to do that anymore
[01:35:30] I don't know
[01:35:31] Here's the thing we have to do
[01:35:32] You forgot the final segment we have to do
[01:35:33] Burger report
[01:35:34] We have to rank the camera
[01:35:36] It's tough
[01:35:37] Oh it's tough
[01:35:38] Oh I'm agonizing already
[01:35:40] Cameron ranking
[01:35:41] Here we go
[01:35:42] Number 10
[01:35:44] Ghosts of the Abyss
[01:35:45] Number 9
[01:35:46] Prana 2 the Spawning
[01:35:47] Number 8
[01:35:48] Aliens of the Deep
[01:35:50] Number 7
[01:35:51] True Lies
[01:35:52] Number 6
[01:35:54] Is Avatar
[01:35:57] Right and that's
[01:35:58] You think I've been
[01:35:59] No that's okay
[01:36:00] Go ahead
[01:36:01] I thought you'd get angry about that
[01:36:02] Number 5
[01:36:03] Is the Abyss
[01:36:04] Sure
[01:36:05] Number 4
[01:36:07] Is Titanic
[01:36:09] Uh huh
[01:36:10] Number 3 is the Terminator
[01:36:11] Number 2 is Terminator 2
[01:36:12] Judgment Day
[01:36:13] Number 1 is Aliens
[01:36:14] Okay
[01:36:15] That's my camera in 10
[01:36:17] Right whereas for me it would be
[01:36:18] 10 Prana
[01:36:19] 9 Aliens of the Deep
[01:36:21] 8 Ghosts of the Abyss
[01:36:22] 7 True Lies
[01:36:24] 6
[01:36:26] The Abyss
[01:36:28] 5
[01:36:29] Avatar
[01:36:30] Talking Tark
[01:36:31] Talking Tark
[01:36:32] 4 the Terminator
[01:36:34] Okay
[01:36:35] 3
[01:36:37] Uh
[01:36:38] Terminator 2
[01:36:40] 2 Aliens
[01:36:41] 1 Titanic
[01:36:42] Wow
[01:36:43] Interesting list
[01:36:44] Interesting list
[01:36:45] That's Cameron
[01:36:46] James Cameron
[01:36:47] Aliens might be number 1
[01:36:48] I don't know it's tough
[01:36:49] It's tough at the time
[01:36:50] Alan's is my number 1
[01:36:51] A good filmmaker we've had a good time with him
[01:36:54] We've had a great time with him
[01:36:55] He's been tough though
[01:36:56] He's been tough
[01:36:57] Lot of good movies
[01:36:58] Lot of good movies
[01:36:59] Like that's the problem
[01:37:00] With the good movie guys
[01:37:01] Well let's announce our next misers
[01:37:02] I think we gotta do it right now
[01:37:03] Next week we're gonna have a Ben's Choice
[01:37:05] Yeah baby
[01:37:06] Well no, Turok
[01:37:07] Oh right next week Turok
[01:37:08] Next week bonus episode Turok the first flight
[01:37:10] Recorded before any of our Cameron episodes
[01:37:12] Then after that Ben's Choice
[01:37:14] We're doing it long promised
[01:37:17] Man who knew too little
[01:37:18] Bill Murray is the man who knew too little
[01:37:20] It's crazy
[01:37:21] Ah I'm so excited
[01:37:23] And then we're excited to exclusively announce our next miniseries
[01:37:27] Perhaps the biggest blank check
[01:37:29] We thought over it
[01:37:30] Maybe this is the biggest blank check anyone's ever gotten in
[01:37:31] I think so
[01:37:32] A filmmaker who already was decades into a career
[01:37:36] Of just some of the biggest hits in history
[01:37:39] Lot of Oscar donations but never a win
[01:37:41] He finally wins Best Picture
[01:37:42] And after that takes a four year break
[01:37:45] At which point he founds his own studio
[01:37:48] Pretty cool
[01:37:49] Not production company, an entire studio
[01:37:51] That's what they call a baller move
[01:37:54] And he in this baller move loved it
[01:37:56] You're getting really griffy now
[01:37:59] That is scary
[01:38:00] Yeah
[01:38:01] He founded an entire studio to bankroll his movies
[01:38:05] As if he didn't already have enough powers
[01:38:07] If he wasn't already an Oscar winner
[01:38:08] He didn't have a big enough dick as it was
[01:38:10] He put a bicycle pump in that dick made it even bigger
[01:38:12] Of course we're talking about our first ever
[01:38:16] Conditional miniseries
[01:38:18] In which we're only covering a section of someone's career
[01:38:21] But it's a long section
[01:38:22] Still long
[01:38:23] Still a long section
[01:38:24] Spielberg the dream works years
[01:38:27] Steven Spielberg are we just going to call it that
[01:38:29] Maybe it's because otherwise it gets hard with the puns
[01:38:32] Making it clear that it's only about that one
[01:38:34] But also his movies do not lend themselves to puns
[01:38:36] Not at all
[01:38:37] We'll talk over the title
[01:38:38] But it will be Spielberg starting in 1997
[01:38:42] With the double haggars
[01:38:43] His most beloved film
[01:38:44] The Lost World Jurassic Park in Almastad
[01:38:46] And it will be going to 2016's the BFG
[01:38:49] So it's 19 years of Spielberg
[01:38:50] 17 films I believe
[01:38:51] 17 films
[01:38:52] Oh my god
[01:38:53] It's 16
[01:38:54] It's gonna be our longest miniseries
[01:38:55] It's a bit of a risk
[01:38:56] It's a bit of a risk
[01:38:57] But there's a lot of variety
[01:38:58] We got a lot ups and downs
[01:38:59] You're gonna have a lot of good guests
[01:39:00] And we're gonna be banking up episodes months in advance
[01:39:02] Because I have to get ahead of filming on the tech
[01:39:04] That's partly why we're doing it guys
[01:39:05] Okay
[01:39:06] So get ready for Spielberg the dream works years
[01:39:08] Or whatever the fuck we call it
[01:39:09] But before that get ready for the Man Hoon 2 Little
[01:39:11] But before that get ready for Turuk the first flight
[01:39:14] Padden it out
[01:39:15] And before that I gotta do laundry
[01:39:17] Yeah
[01:39:18] I think I'm getting close to too
[01:39:19] I gotta do laundry loads today
[01:39:20] I gotta watch my waddo costume
[01:39:22] Oh I'm gonna mention that quickly
[01:39:23] I'm just gonna plug that very quickly
[01:39:25] Okay
[01:39:26] I'm now
[01:39:28] The George Lucas talk show which we talked about
[01:39:30] A lot in the past
[01:39:31] The great Conor Ratliff
[01:39:32] Add him on the show
[01:39:33] Yes
[01:39:34] Host a talk show as George Lucas live
[01:39:37] At the UCB East Theatre
[01:39:39] The first Friday of every month
[01:39:41] At midnight
[01:39:42] And I am for the foreseeable future
[01:39:45] Going to be his sidekick
[01:39:46] His ande-rector
[01:39:47] His Ed McMahon
[01:39:48] As waddo
[01:39:49] The long time listeners of the podcast will know
[01:39:51] Is my worst bit
[01:39:53] That I commit to the hardest
[01:39:54] It's a great bit
[01:39:55] My most offensive bit
[01:39:57] So yeah
[01:39:58] I am playing waddo
[01:39:59] First Friday of every month
[01:40:01] If you want to see it at any point in time
[01:40:03] This is an open-ended plug
[01:40:05] Just come check him out guys
[01:40:06] Alright
[01:40:07] I gotta watch my waddo soon
[01:40:08] Great way to end the Cameron miniseries
[01:40:09] Gotta watch my waddo soon
[01:40:10] But we do have the bonus episode next week
[01:40:12] So that's fun
[01:40:13] Alright
[01:40:14] Okay
[01:40:15] Alright
[01:40:16] Thanks for listening
[01:40:17] Please rate, review, subscribe
[01:40:19] All that nonsense
[01:40:20] And as always
[01:40:22] Dun-dun-ah
[01:40:24] Dun-dun-ah
[01:40:26] Oh
[01:40:28] Ay-ay-oh
[01:40:31] Yeah
[01:40:32] Ay-ay-oh
[01:40:35] You know when they do that part
[01:40:37] When there's sort of like the woman moaning
