[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Hello, welcome to the Phantom Podcast and I'm David Sim.
[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm Griffin Newman. This is our final episode.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_05]: What? Of the Phantom Podcasts, because let's get this out of the way.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't fret. Right off the bat.
[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't fret. The brand that you have come to know and love in the millions.
[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Griffin and David presents will be surviving.
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_04]: The easily Googleable, totally marketable, David and Griffin brand.
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Very, very singular and unique.
[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_05]: You might notice on iTunes, we're listed as Griffin David presents, which has made us difficult for some people to find them.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I keep going into Phantom Men's or whatever.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Right. I Google the Phantom Podcast and I get a podcast about the Phantom, the old radio series.
[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Guys, you couldn't go on with my suggestion, which was Griffin. Simsburg.
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Griffin, yeah. That would have been so easy to go with.
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Of course, that's the Poison. Auto-correct nightmare.
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Poison, the Phantom Podcast, Ben Dooser, A.A.
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_05]: The producer, A.K. producer, Ben.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_05]: A.K. Hello, Fano. Hello, Fano. Hello, Fano.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, well, what a panicked drop of that one is.
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe we should be called Hello, Fano.
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_05]: We could be called Hello, Fano. That might be easier to Google.
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I'll contact that too.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_05]: So we were talking, how do we keep the show going?
[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_05]: There are a lot of ideas and things we thought we wanted to spot like, do podcast about.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Some longer forms, some one-off episodes. Yeah.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_05]: And I had a breakthrough last week.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_05]: We went to go see Mad Max Fury Road and I showed up.
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I was experiencing severe hay fever.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_04]: You were covered in high-side.
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_05]: I was all over my next and arms.
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep. My next, both of my next.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep, two legs.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, Fodenbe.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_05]: You were going another neck.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_05]: I grew another neck.
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. And that neck had a head that only spuck hoties.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And, uh, hey, nailed it.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, and my eyes were blush out and I felt terrible.
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_05]: But I said, I cracked the code.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_05]: You did. You were very excited.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I said, a lot of these things we pitched about doing a podcast about
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_05]: have a through line. I realized that that is what
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I tracked us to the Phantom as in the first place.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. And is the kind?
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_05]: What someone does when they're given complete creative freedom?
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, or they have a lot of Hollywood capital to spend on a sort of a passion project maybe.
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, my dad used to call it.
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_05]: My dad and I used to call it the Get-out of Jail Free Card.
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_05]: So it's like, there's this idea that if in Hollywood they have, you know, short memories.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_05]: So if you fail, doesn't matter how many times you succeed before that you're out.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_05]: But sometimes you have a success that's so big.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_05]: You get to get out of Jail Free Card.
[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. So you can make one wild folly, one extreme passion project.
[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes I turn out well.
[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes you get to make a bunch of them.
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, sometimes Hollywood just keeps forgetting, like the Wachowski brothers.
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, like, I would have to put Jailski siblings.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_04]: If it's that big.
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. Sometimes you just keep getting the hand of the keys to something.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_04]: You get it. You keep on getting get out of Jail Free Card.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Often you just get the one.
[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_05]: The idea is that you can flop that big because, you know, they'll give you one more chance afterwards.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_05]: You get out of movie jail.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_05]: They take you out of movie jail and they take you off the bench.
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_05]: We're fascinated by that.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_05]: A lot of them.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_05]: When we talk about projects, we also got to have the context of, remember, this is what they were coming off of.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_05]: And, you know, of course, George Lucas coming off the massive success of THX 1138.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_05]: And it made a miracle for the TV.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_05]: And maybe one movie in between.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_05]: We've been a producer for producing the adjoins.
[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's a good idea.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a good movie.
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Like I'm a, yeah.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_05]: But as we talked about a lot, the Hasbro Toy Company paid $100 million for the racist film.
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_05]: So he had complete career control.
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_05]: He was working outside the studio system.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_05]: He trusted him implicitly.
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_05]: And that was what was fascinating to us.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_05]: This movie was not feathered by the studio heads coming in, the mucking about.
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Go in and change this change.
[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_05]: He made exactly what he wanted to make.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think for us, that's fascinating with someone.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_05]: We're all the trips are down and they go, I'm finally getting to make some of the way I want to.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_05]: And a couple times it's resulted in some of my favorite pieces of art ever.
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, you can give me anything particular.
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_05]: There's one movie I'd really like to cover.
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_05]: My favorite movie of all time.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I think we'll save it for a little bit.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we'll save that for a little bit.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_05]: But my favorite movie of all time is,
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_05]: falls into that category so clearly.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_05]: And you have never seen it.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_05]: No, I've never seen it.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so I want to do an episode.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_05]: To make it clear that we're not always just because shit on stuff.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no.
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_05]: And we also went into this thing when we were going to love.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_04]: We thought we were going to crack there are things we like.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_04]: That maybe have now just been tarnished beyond repair.
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_04]: But 100%.
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, we definitely originally like.
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Can remember the good times.
[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Go back and remember the good times.
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_04]: The best of them, the best one yet.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_05]: But our point is it's not just going to be like,
[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_05]: oh, movies are flopped and movies are failed.
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_05]: They're trying to, what we're going to talk about?
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_05]: No, no, no.
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_05]: This isn't fascinating.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's when someone has all the cloud and the heat
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_05]: to make exactly what they want.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_05]: And how it turns out?
[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I guess it's a deep people go, oh, art, business commerce,
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_05]: mixes in, the executives, that it does.
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_05]: A lot of times when someone's given complete artistic control.
[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a disaster.
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no.
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_04]: But it's, but it's never planned or like boring or Hollywood
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_04]: into death.
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I mean, how we saw Mad Max last week.
[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_04]: And there's a perfect example.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Like went right.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_04]: But you know, something that could have easily just been a total
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_04]: like spectacle of folly.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_04]: But instead, he, you know, good job George.
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_05]: If you were wrote it come out 10 years ago,
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_05]: we would definitely be doing a podcast about it.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, my God.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_05]: It would be right in our wheelhouse.
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's when we why did he get to make that because of happy feet?
[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Seriously, because happy feet were so successful.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, happy feet too didn't do as well.
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_05]: But he was already good to go.
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Your right on theory,
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_04]: he was such a surprise profitable and Oscar-winning hit for,
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_05]: it was one of the, for Warner Bros.
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Who did not mention the bright right right right right right right right
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_05]: who also produced Mad Max.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_05]: And it was, it was at the time it's released one of the 10 high
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_05]: sclericing films at Warner Bros.
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_05]: It ever released.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Including like six Harry Potter.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_04]: Happy feet is by the way like not a good movie,
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_04]: but has a great, I don't like that movie personally.
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm very confident.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Great opening 20 minutes.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_04]: When he's a baby, it's so good.
[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_04]: When he's Elijah Wood or whatever.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Mm-hmm.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, happy feet Wood or more better.
[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_05]: The Fury Road version where it was like,
[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_05]: let's just keep it to one thing and do the shit out of this one thing.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Like the great thing about Furious is just one fucking chase as a movie.
[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_05]: These episodes come out a little later.
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_05]: So just to, to make sure, the time that we're recording this,
[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_05]: it's been like five days since Mad Max came out
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_05]: and a wix since we saw it together and we still can't get over it.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly, I can't wait to see it again.
[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I see a reason I said twice because I went to a wedding this weekend.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I saw the second time.
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_04]: And I almost tried to round the wedding party and so like,
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_04]: come on guys, let's sneak in a screen and but yeah, didn't happen.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_05]: But don't, don't you think of Happy feet was just like singing and dancing in the penguins?
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_05]: And there was only like three sections where they slowed down
[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_05]: and had dialogue much like Fury Road, it would be better moving.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_04]: But I also think it has the problem that Lion King has where it's like you only want one version
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_04]: of the protagonist.
[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_04]: You don't like it when he's grown up.
[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I agree.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Everyone, yeah, the early Lion King's the best part of all.
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_04]: It is and the later part of the Lion King is only watchable because everyone out.
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Like at that point you're not very interested in the main character anymore.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We're doing a great job of not talking about the Phantom Manus.
[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's take a look at the Lion King.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_04]: And that movie is not good.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Lion King, I agree is very flopped.
[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_04]: It's a pretty, really, yeah, shotty movie with some like, it's got some great stuff.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Transcendent pit bits and pieces.
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_04]: And generally, very clever, I towards making a movie that children will be obsessed with.
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Much like Frozen.
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, yeah, Frozen.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_05]: I love Frozen.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Frozen, I love a lot more than the Lion King but I also think it's a flawed move.
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Frozen, it came off the vine so quickly from me.
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I watched it again and now it's like, oh, I don't know.
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Both of those movies have that weird alchemy though.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_05]: There's an X-factor that kind of, it transcends and covers up its flaws.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but how well it works when it works and how exciting they see the hands on it.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_04]: And also just every child I know knows about Frozen even if they haven't seen it.
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_04]: They know everything about it.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_04]: It's incredible.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like that incredible osmosis where they just know.
[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_05]: They know.
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Getting back to what this podcast is constantly about.
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Adam family values?
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, yeah, I love Adam's.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We should.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We do want to make this.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_04]: That's my literally one of my favorite movies.
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I was happily through that.
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Me.
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_05]: That wasn't me, Tonga.
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_05]: That was a, that's an answer.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_05]: That's an A, a V, a poll for any of you.
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_05]: A, a V fans out there.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_05]: So the podcast is going to continue.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to cover other things.
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_05]: We've got a lot of suggestions from fans.
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_05]: We talked about a lot of things.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I think by popular demand, our hands are tied with the product.
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_05]: We got to, we got to judge the judge.
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I get 50 tweets a day about this.
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_05]: And the judging the judge.
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_05]: No, I don't get it.
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_05]: So you might think we're joking, but uh,
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_05]: judging the judge is coming up.
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so here's, here's the idea.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Right now this is, you're listening to the season finale of the fans and podcast.
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Woo.
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Looks like we made it.
[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to take a little break and not a long break.
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_05]: No, really brief break early June.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to drop a bonus episode.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_05]: This is for die hards only.
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_05]: David and I have both watched the fanomass too many times now.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, yes, it is exactly two many times.
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_05]: But we have not watched it together.
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_05]: It's true.
[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_05]: So we're going to get some birds.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to turn on an old Mikey phone.
[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to record a full commentary for the fanomass.
[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_04]: None of you will listen to it.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Ben's not even going to join us for that one.
[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_05]: No, Ben's going to stay at home.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I joined us for that one.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't give you guys the mics and just let you have that.
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_05]: He's going to say goodbye, fendled of that one.
[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, you at home, we'll be able to sync up our commentary there.
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, we just two sad defeated men.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, but it'll be good because it'll be like a goodbye.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Like a big funeral.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Hopefully we'll be the last time that we ever watch them with.
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Not definitely not.
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm definitely going to watch it again.
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And if I have kids, they're going to fucking watch the movie.
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be unavoidable.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Early June commentary episode.
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Then we're coming back.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_05]: We could two after that with judging the judge.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_05]: It's 100% happening.
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm going to have to watch the movie The Judge.
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm really excited.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_05]: It's great.
[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_05]: So if you, it's terrible.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_05]: So if you subscribe, if you're subscribed to Griffin David presents,
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_05]: it will just be a continuous podcast.
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll do the judge.
[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_05]: We will have a new title in terms of how we presented.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_05]: The artwork will be different but it'll be the same fucking podcast.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Wherever you listen, they'll be right there in the same place.
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_05]: And then after that, I don't know.
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, we'll see.
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're going to.
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we'll figure something up.
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_05]: But we'll keep the theme going of grandfollies or wild success
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_05]: is coming off of massive successes.
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but people do when they're giving.
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Judging the judge fits that because David Dupken had just made Fred
[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Claus.
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Did he make something in between?
[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Might he.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_05]: And he made the change up which was a big flop.
[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Might take on it is that it's downy junior coming off.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I agree with the Avengers.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I know.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_04]: He can't even make whatever he wants.
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_04]: The change up is another movie I never saw.
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_04]: But it's really bad, right?
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_04]: It's bad.
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_04]: That's the one with Ryan Reynolds and Jason.
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Jason, maybe even Pintpool.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I think I've seen every David Dupken movie which is astounding because
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I like this Euro David Dupken movie.
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_04]: You don't even like clay pigeons?
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Is that the one here?
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it's okay.
[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_04]: It's okay.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Shane Hennett just bad when he crashed as a bad Mr. Woodcock.
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Never seen that.
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_04]: He did research on it.
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I haven't seen it either.
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That movie was taken away from his director Craig Gillespie.
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Great, the most people who also directed Lars in the real girl
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_05]: on Frightenight 3D has the weirdest filmography in the world.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Right, right.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_04]: It is so good.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I think Lars and the real girl is incredibly overrated.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_05]: I like some of it.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Frightenight's really good in Colin for all dessert.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And it's not like if people are going around, yeah he does agree with it.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_04]: It's not like people are going around saying like Lars and the real girl is the best
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_04]: and I still think it's like really overrated.
[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_05]: But back to the matter at hand,
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_05]: the Phantom Manus.
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Stars were stars.
[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_05]: Stars were stars.
[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_05]: Stars were stars.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_05]: One out of a set.
[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_05]: The Phantom Manus.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_05]: It was supposed to be part of a big sci-fi saga and it never got off the ground as we all know.
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_05]: There's only one of these movies.
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's what's fascinating to us is that it's a dead end.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_05]: We started this podcast, not this episode.
[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_05]: But oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, nine episodes ago.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Mm-hmm.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, we start this with one explicit goal.
[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Answer one question.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_05]: So simple answer one question.
[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Just a simple.
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_05]: We thought so much like Sarah Cainig.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_05]: We thought answering one question was going to be easy.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_04]: That's still going on, by the way.
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_04]: They got some J.
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, testimony.
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't care about Sarah Cainig.
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_05]: And what's crazy is we answered her question or first episode?
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_05]: We know the answer.
[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_05]: And on this guilty.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_05]: No question.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to walk him away forever.
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_05]: And on J did it together in their both gels.
[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_05]: That's why the stories don't make sense because each of you
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_05]: has half the story because they're trying to...
[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I understand.
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_04]: I feel I fully because they don't.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I do think, yeah, Adnan was involved.
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_04]: J was involved in some sort of story.
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_05]: The stories don't match up with anything because each of them kind of has half the
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_05]: information, but they have to cut out the parts where they were involved as a
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_05]: dump student.
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Dump, dumb, and non-insured dump.
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_05]: We've come in with one question that we thought was easier to answer and we failed entirely.
[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_05]: What is Star Wars episode 1 the Phantom As a Man?
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_05]: We did fail.
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we'd always come...
[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_04]: We'd brush against it maybe.
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_04]: We'd have a theory that would have had some grounding, but we'd never.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_05]: But I feel like a lot of our answers were delivered in this ton.
[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Dada da da da.
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_05]: So what do you wait?
[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_05]: When the Phantom As is about...
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Trades?
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_04]: What do you think the movie's about or should we wait?
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Do we have final takes?
[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Do you have a final take?
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_04]: I might have a final.
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_05]: All right, so let's let's read other pieces.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_05]: This is our viewer mailbag episode.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_05]: We reached out to some of our friends.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_05]: We opened the floodgates to some of our loyal listeners.
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_05]: And we said, send us your audio, send us your text.
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Let us know what you think the Phantom As is about.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_05]: So we're going to outsource today and hopefully come up with an answer.
[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_05]: So let's do this one first.
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's do Dane hurt.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, I was saying.
[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Dane hurt.
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Send us this message.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_05]: What was the Phantom As about?
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Trade negotiations.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_05]: All caps.
[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I think six or seven.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Seven.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Exclamation points.
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_05]: What a George Lucas care about more than anything as whole life.
[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Getting fucking toys delivered to people in time for Christmas.
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I want to before I read the sense, make it very clear that these are Dane's words because I already have
[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_04]: not endorsed.
[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_05]: And I already have a bad track record with race relations on this podcast.
[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Specifically, yeah, go on.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Dane says those greedy agents were always trying to block hate his shit.
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_05]: And once he had to sell an empty box for Christmas with essentially IOUs for the toys.
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't know what that's in reference to.
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Interesting.
[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure Dane you're being, I'm sure I'm going to
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Dane that benefit the doubt.
[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, he's speaking from George's perspective.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_05]: There's now one scene in the whole plot that does not directly revolve around trade and the
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_05]: negotiations that are compliant.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Even Quagon scamming water with the chance cube is a trade negotiation.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_05]: It's true.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Good point.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Thanks.
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And may the blessings of Gragrab be with you.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_05]: So kind.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_05]: That's the kind to sing you could ever say to anybody.
[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_05]: P.S. for the record.
[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think Asians are greedy but George Lucas apparently.
[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I assume to Dane was, yeah, speaking from George's perspective.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if everything is a trade negotiation but he kind of has a point because you've got
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_04]: the Nibu Gunggin settlements.
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_04]: That's a negotiation there and probably involved trade.
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_04]: You've got, like you say, Quagon's excellent slave acquisition.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Such a good slave acquisition.
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_04]: The best.
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_04]: If he had to resume it would be like what are you good at?
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Light saber okay.
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_04]: So so.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_05]: The only one who's better is simple.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_05]: And also all the other potteries because apparently they're all for all
[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_05]: flavor.
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Countles.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the whole pot.
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_04]: So you know.
[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_04]: So he's saying that here's a movie funded by Merchant Dice.
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_04]: That's what I like that he's tying it back into that.
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_04]: The reason the movie exists is because of Merchant Dice sale.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's what George is grinding his acts about in those great,
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_04]: that great opening crawl that we all know and love.
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Wonderful opening crawl.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_04]: The best.
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Such a smart way to open a movie.
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_04]: So good.
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, if it was an art film most people would leave.
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, who's the can film festival?
[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_04]: It would be less people would just be like, no, no, no, no.
[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_04]: What do you do?
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_04]: So thank you, Dave.
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_04]: That was good.
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_04]: That was great.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Here's a micron.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, micron.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you're a former entertainment writer for
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to post now he works for Uprachs.
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_04]: And is a screen crush?
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_04]: He used to work at screen crush.
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_05]: He's like one of the premier.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he's he's a man about to film writer.
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Great.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_05]: That's better.
[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, love you Mike.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_05]: We followed each other and Twitter.
[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_05]: We followed each other too.
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_05]: We made a good trade the other day on the Star Wars.
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_04]: A car trader and I run into him at Jenkins.
[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Really?
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_05]: He ended drinking.
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Hi, Mike.
[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Talk in Mike.
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not a long.
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_05]: This is not.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_05]: We've talked more about Mike than we then he wrote about the Phantom Pass.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Which is good.
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, babies of soluit.
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_05]: He wrote it's about an elaborate and convoluted scheme to get
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_05]: a 100-perpetene elective chance.
[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Now, this is interesting.
[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_04]: No, he's absolutely on the money here.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_04]: I know exactly what he means because everything, you know, the end of the movie.
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_04]: What happens?
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_04]: He, I believe he gets elected chance.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_04]: He does.
[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Florum, there's a vote in their confidence.
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_04]: What spurs all of that?
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_04]: This crisis in Naboo.
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_04]: And what spurs the crisis in Naboo?
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_04]: The trade and the federation being told to do this by the set.
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_04]: And what, you know, why are the Jedi sent in because of the blockade?
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, like it's all, do, do, do, do, do, do.
[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Domino's falling palpatine elected.
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_04]: If that's the case though, the movie is total failure because,
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_04]: a fairly seat palpatine and who cares?
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_05]: We're not arguing about whether or not the movie works.
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no.
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_05]: We're asking what it was supposed to be about.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_04]: But he's right.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_04]: That is the probably the biggest arc.
[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_04]: And let's cover the most of the movie.
[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's go back to the title.
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_05]: What's it called?
[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_05]: The Phantom Manage.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_04]: She would call it the holographic minus.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Right, but who's that holograph?
[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_04]: It's, is the dark side.
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And who does that do look a lot like?
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Garg?
[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_04]: No.
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Palpatine.
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_04]: What if it was Garg?
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, God.
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_05]: What if you had that classic Garg or a mouth?
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, God.
[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_04]: That's no.
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, no, he's the Phantom Manage behind the scenes,
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_04]: working to get palpatine elected chancellor so that.
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Who knows?
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Who knows?
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't get to see the rest of it.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_05]: But I do think that was the Phantom Manage was this idea.
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Palpatine puts on a cloak, gets Darth Maul out of their fucking studio apartment onto
[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_05]: the terrace and is like, you got to get out there and get some shit done.
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Why?
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Because he's just trying to clear up everything.
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_04]: It's a brilliant play by him because he's playing his own side against his other
[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_04]: side.
[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_04]: He's playing palpatine's nibu against Sidious's trade federation.
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_05]: He's talking about both sides of his mouth because he's going to the Asian and
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_05]: he's going to hate block the trades and then he's going.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_04]: The Asians.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and then he's going to the Senate and he's like, I don't know what I can do in
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_05]: the warms.
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm out of hearing.
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_05]: He's like, I guess I got to take it.
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_05]: The way he humbly accepts the way he's like, I would never have thought he knew.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_05]: It's what 9 to 11 truthers accused George B. Bush of doing.
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, pretty awesome.
[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, yes.
[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Just so he can solve it and be the hero.
[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Why?
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_05]: So you can ascend a power and become evil.
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Mother fucker.
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe I don't know.
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Just, um, uh, uh,
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Micrions, uh, Sanctuary and other, a Kate Urbland who's also a Grishelmwrider.
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, uh, it's not included in this packet.
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_05]: We can't because she emailed me directly.
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, didn't listen to my directions.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, whatever.
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_05]: I told her to email us at, uh, Grishelmwrider.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Kate is the coolest.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_05]: She's a film writer.
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_04]: You should check out her shit all over the place.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_04]: She restory.
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_04]: The dissolve.
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_04]: She writes for, uh, many fairs sometimes I think you know, she would.
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_05]: She's the best.
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_05]: It's been writing for, uh, yeah.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_05]: She's got, um, here's what she wrote to us, uh, opening sentence.
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I am really worried about you guys.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Fair enough Kate.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Good point.
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll see you soon.
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, here is my hot take and hot take of course has, uh, has track.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, I don't know what the Phantom Mass is about because I've never watched it.
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Geez.
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Because when the movie first set theaters, even my then teen brain could recognize
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_05]: that it wasn't for me.
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I think I may have said to a friend this ain't for me.
[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I do know however that dr.
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Banks is in it and he sounds extra horrible.
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_05]: The Phantom Mass is about dr.
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Banks and thus about horrible stuff.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_04]: That's the little thing.
[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Neilicate.
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's a thing.
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_04]: It's horrible.
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but I had to read it because it's like someone who hasn't seen it.
[00:20:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Her take has as spot on is anyone else.
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_05]: It's about a bunch of horrible things.
[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It is a stencily up, dr.
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, because Mike's point is it's about palpoutine.
[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_05]: But we argue it doesn't do that well.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I do think that's what's trying to be about and does.
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_05]: That would be actual plot of the movie is about George might say that's what
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_05]: it's about if you asked him.
[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_05]: But if you watch it, Jar Jar is such a prominent part of the film that it feels like
[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_05]: it's about Jar Jar.
[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you keep on expecting that it pays off in some larger way with Jar Jar.
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a dumb movie I fucking hate it.
[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_04]: All right, how about um,
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Lux or a runner who's who he?
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's read, let's read Lux here.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Lux Alptrum, a long time listener, a follow her on Twitter.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, Lux.
[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_05]: The end good friend.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Good friend.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I should mention that too.
[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_05]: But the fact that people listen to podcast for me, you know, overshows
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_05]: the fact that they're my friends in real life are great.
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_05]: The Phantom Mass is a complex tale of the depths a man past his prime will
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_05]: sink to in a misguided attempt to mine the nostalgia of an entire generation
[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_05]: for profit.
[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Just she's saying that's palpoutine's plan.
[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm I'm sure I'm very confused with this.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_05]: So she thinks the palpoutine is trying to mine and a stalled.
[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_05]: So maybe growing the soldier for science fiction.
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure she means there was another trade blockade and so palpoutine's
[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_05]: doing another trade block.
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't I don't get this one but yeah, no, I know what she's talking about.
[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Trade blockades.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, well, thank you Lux.
[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's let's do let's do an audio clip.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's mix it up because we got a couple of audio clips here.
[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_05]: This is from the great Christopher Compton and he wrote in drops mic,
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_05]: realizes he was using his phone as his mic picks up mic and checks it for scratches.
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_05]: That's it.
[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a funny intro.
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I like it.
[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_05]: And here here is this audio clip.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_05]: So let's take it away.
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Ben do so.
[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is a movie about kids and the power of kids.
[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_00]: So if we look at the storylines of the movie here, we have a very young boy
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: who earns his own freedom from slavery by winning an impossible race.
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We have a very young girl who is somehow queen of her own planet.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And we have set up as the villain of the movie, we have an old man who play
[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_00]: acts as an even older man when he is in his evil form.
[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the story also explains the presence, the omnipresence of
[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Jar Jar Binks who, I think but in the theater seems to offend and
[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_00]: repulse all adult numbers of the audience while having zero negative effect on children
[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_00]: and the audience which I think goes to show who's who's meant to be celebrated by this movie.
[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_04]: So I like this a lot.
[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_04]: The children are our future essentially the take because you've got yourself Anakin.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_04]: He's got some bright future.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_04]: You've got Amidala.
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_04]: She's solving a planet's whole problem.
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean George is making this point too that maybe children are more equipped to deal with
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_05]: our problems than adults.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Why not a lot of the community?
[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Children can have an angle on things like Amidala arrives at the Senate and they're like,
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_04]: oh, my committee hearing she's like no.
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I believe she says comiti.
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Comiti.
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_04]: I think she says comiti.
[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I know she says it.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_04]: She's like no, no.
[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_04]: The vote of no confidence.
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Now she has been manipulated into that position by Palpatine.
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_05]: But he's the gross old man that's the point.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_05]: He's the villain in the piece.
[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_05]: We shouldn't trust the elders that it children are our future old old old bad bad bad bad
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_05]: and and George on the big old piece of shit.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_05]: He's a big old piece of shit.
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a slave owner.
[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Comiti is a very accomplished actor and storyteller himself.
[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_05]: He's been writing this big fantasy saga for like the last 15 years.
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll start writing this thing as a child that is grown in mythos.
[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_05]: He's created his own universe more expansive than the fantasy universe.
[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_05]: And once a year he will perform this story.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_05]: It's like a free form story of the land and everything.
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_05]: So he's been a lot of time sort of creating and analyzing the nature of
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_05]: the mythology, grand mythology.
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think he has a really, really smart take here.
[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_05]: It is for kids and George when people complain about the fandom as he goes like, well
[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_05]: it's delta taken two series so you get to movie for kids.
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_05]: He does.
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_05]: He says that a lot.
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_05]: That's fair.
[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_05]: So that that's a child like.
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_05]: George R is very child.
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that's what he was building up to.
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_05]: He peels it from because I think he is like a child.
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_05]: And the way that the other Goongins treat
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_05]: George R is reminiscent of how an adult like teacher would penalize like
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_04]: George R.
[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_04]: They would be like, George R you're in trouble.
[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_04]: So you should be in charge of our whole army.
[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_05]: George R is like the class clown and sometimes the way you deal with the class
[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_05]: clowns you make them the line.
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you promote.
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_04]: That's very good.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I like that.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Giving them responsibility.
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe that will they'll focus their energy there.
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_04]: You're going to be salt teen distributor.
[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_04]: My girlfriend were you salt teen distributor?
[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_05]: No, it was usually line later because I was the class con.
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_05]: They were like, you have to lead people in a positive way.
[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Salt teen distributor though.
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I wasn't the title.
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It was a snack giver.
[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to my school head jobs.
[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I went to work.
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't.
[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_05]: I know he went to school.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_05]: It was no work.
[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_05]: This is my elementary school.
[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, okay.
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, fair enough.
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_05]: I said work camp.
[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_05]: But it was a work camp.
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Rowan ahead.
[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, Ramona.
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Great friend.
[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, castes.
[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_05]: So I most of the people we've read from where people I know to some degree in real life
[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_05]: or at least online or whatever.
[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_05]: A lot of them I can say have only been rewatching the movie because of listening
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_05]: this part.
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I know we made a lot of people watch this movie.
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_05]: A couple of them I don't think had seen it before.
[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_05]: And so these are hot takes of people like really getting into the movie with clear eyes
[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_04]: and a little bit of a call.
[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Some of them not having scenes since they were children.
[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Some of them not having seen it at all.
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And watching it from the get go and some of them being professional critics.
[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Like Kate or Mike.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Kate who notably still has a lot of them.
[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_05]: A lot of them are good.
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you for the recent trade on the Cartoon rap.
[00:27:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Going into it with our question in mind from the get go.
[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_05]: They're watching Trana solvent.
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I think it shows cause all these people are kind of a really good answer.
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Ramona, great friend says I think Phanna Manus is about Queen Amadala and her image
[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_05]: as a queen of the people in the middle.
[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_05]: There's an extensive pot racing scene in the desert.
[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_04]: The pot racing is the hardest thing to tie into the rest of the movie.
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Well I think Ramadam's point is good because she does reconcile the pot racing by just saying
[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_05]: that they're is the judge's thing and making its own independent statement.
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I think Phanna Manus is about Queen Amadala and her image as a queen of the people.
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Now this is kind of interesting because the movie definitely is about public appearances.
[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's where the whole decoy thing comes in.
[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's where palpatine's manipulation comes in.
[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's where TC14 being like these are some Jedi's.
[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I've been hottest shit in the world.
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_04]: The hottest piece in the galaxy.
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_04]: She knows their Jedi's cause their public presentation
[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_04]: as Hobo people would lose their sorts.
[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_05]: But right, but they do.
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_05]: But when they come in they go, oh hey, we're here.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_05]: What do they say there?
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Diplomats?
[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're negotiators.
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_05]: But it's like the hot for Torlond.
[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_05]: The newest bounty insers now available from Master Access and the cartridge.
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Four Laman other expended.
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Extended universe.
[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_05]: How do you get Master Access?
[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_05]: You have to pay money which I refuse to do.
[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I've only done it like 12 times.
[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not like four times.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_05]: So it's just too much.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I spent like $5 on this app.
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_05]: But I have a very clear cap.
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I do think it is a lot about images.
[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_05]: There's a lot in the film about like reputations,
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_05]: preceding people, people putting on different airs,
[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_05]: pretending to be different things, all this stuff.
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_05]: And even quite on negotiation with Wado,
[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_05]: I think he doesn't let on the he's a Jedi first.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Cause then when he does the Jedi,
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_05]: the hand wave, he's like,
[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh no, it's a toy dairy in.
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, so it is about images definitely.
[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Let's re...
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_04]: I hate that scene because Wado is like,
[00:29:01] [SPEAKER_04]: what do you some kind of like you're acting like you're a Jedi?
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Like maybe he is Jedi Wado.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Like to your homework.
[00:29:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Don't fucking negotiate with this guy.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't act like you're so smart when you're actually saying
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_05]: the dumbest thing in the world.
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It comes razor.
[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_05]: If a guy's doing a Jedi mind trick,
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_05]: maybe it's because he's a Jedi.
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's like three company level.
[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Like just ignoring what's in front of you just to move
[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_04]: the plot along.
[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_04]: You better not be dating these way, am I?
[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Nathan Wagner, the great Nathan Wagner.
[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I like saying people are the great if you have a note.
[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_05]: TV's Nathan Wagner.
[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_05]: TV's Nathan Wagner also,
[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I believe Noah's Nathan Wagner is a long-term
[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_05]: color in the Chris Gathert show.
[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Our favorite TV show in the world.
[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you for listening and writing in.
[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_05]: He writes, I'm probably late on this.
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_05]: No he's not, but here's my take on Star Wars episode one.
[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_05]: I think the Phantom Manus is all about working together.
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Every character has their own major flaw or set back
[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_05]: in the movie.
[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Jar Jar's clumsy.
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, we won't never does anything.
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_05]: That's pretty big setback.
[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Captain Monaco is boring.
[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Major setback.
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and that's a plot point in the film.
[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_05]: They give a girl like Panaque.
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_05]: You are putting into a film.
[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no, Panaque.
[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Bores, yeah, people regularly just sleep.
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't have this problem.
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm like Panaque gets some fucking charisma.
[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_05]: But throughout the movie, no one in the main group
[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_05]: of heroes calls the other one out in their problems.
[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Interesting.
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_04]: There is no conflict internally.
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Qui-gun just accepts that Jar Jar is going to bumble around
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_05]: and still lets him be part of the group.
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_05]: He never seems happy with it,
[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_05]: but he also never is like, okay, Jar Jar grab.
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's true.
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_05]: And this kind of answers are questions
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_05]: so why they bring Jar Jar and R2 with them
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_05]: to most aspects?
[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Because we're always like, what the game?
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't answer the question,
[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_04]: but at least gives some grounding for maybe
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_04]: why Qui-gun wouldn't just say to him like stay in the movie.
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_04]: We don't need this spaceship.
[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_05]: But going back to Nathan's words here
[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_05]: by allowing each other to work together
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_05]: they overcome the hardships as a group.
[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Also, I just want to say thank you for this podcast.
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I love it and you did a great job creating content
[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_05]: from a single movie.
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I agree.
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_05]: That's what we're here to do.
[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_05]: We're here to create content.
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_04]: I like that.
[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_04]: So they're all working together.
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_04]: So let's think it's like, okay, so you've got Amadala
[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_04]: but she's on her own in the booth struggling,
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_04]: you know, with a boring security chief
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_04]: and a griping bearded advisor.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_04]: So a little bit.
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and then all these old people can't relate
[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_04]: to her and they're telling her what to do.
[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_04]: So she's struggling and she needs to meet up with the Jedi
[00:31:18] [SPEAKER_04]: who can give her enough initiative
[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_04]: maybe to make a bold move, such as leaving the planet
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_04]: to try and convince the Senate of her whatever.
[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and tying into her mind is take,
[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_05]: she it's such a burden for to keep up this appearance
[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_05]: of being as regal, mature, queen with these big heads.
[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Girls, who are you?
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_05]: But when she teamed up with the Jedi suddenly,
[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_05]: it's like, oh no, I'm just as handmade.
[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_05]: She's like to just kick it.
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, she kicks it.
[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And this is the same for Jar Jar Jar Jar's arc
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_04]: is banished clumsy meets up with the Jedi
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_04]: and they figure out what he's good for,
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_04]: which is I guess being clumsy in a good way.
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_04]: I suppose, and the Amadala Anakin, Anakin,
[00:32:00] [SPEAKER_04]: not mentioned here has a significant setback
[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_04]: in the movie, which is that he was born into slavery.
[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_04]: And yet he overcomes it by becoming a peace of shit,
[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_05]: a little piece of shit, a little turd.
[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_05]: But he's free ostensibly
[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_05]: because only cuz his slave owner dies.
[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, Anakin?
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_05]: His slave owner doesn't die.
[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, quite a.
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you remember he trades hands?
[00:32:28] [SPEAKER_05]: But then Yoda has that talk with Obi-Wan.
[00:32:30] [SPEAKER_05]: He's like, I guess you'll take care of the boy.
[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_05]: So I guess at the end he did just transfer to him.
[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_04]: But there may not be, it may be over.
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't know because we'll never know him.
[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_05]: There's not.
[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't know.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't know.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_05]: And unfortunately there's not a sequel, so we'll never not.
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_05]: But great technique.
[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_05]: And so I can all these texts are really good.
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I think we have another audio clip.
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, let's play Miles Robbins here.
[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_05]: The great Miles Robbins.
[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_05]: He's a friend of the show and a friend of railway.
[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Once again, a person I went to high school with and had
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_05]: become closer with recently because of the podcast.
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_05]: That's nice.
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_05]: He started reaching out to me after the podcast aired.
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Surprise by how much he liked it.
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_05]: And has been rewatching fanomasts obsessively.
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's very heartwarming.
[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_05]: And now we've been hanging out more.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_05]: But yeah.
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Here is my interpretation of what the Phantom Menace is about.
[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that the Phantom Menace is about the fact
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_02]: that others are weird or bad.
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Mord often the knot.
[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_02]: There's not a single alien character in the film
[00:33:39] [SPEAKER_02]: that was helpful to the protagonist and also not a gungin.
[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_02]: And therefore, clownish and condescendingly portrayed.
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you've already discussed it length
[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_02]: that the trade federation is a bunch of people
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Chinaman that Wato is a greedy Jew.
[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a bulba is a smoker who is also a slave owner.
[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Yoda just kind of talks a lot of shit.
[00:34:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Doesn't really offer good advice.
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_02]: When there's a corrupt bureaucrat whispering in the ear of the chancellor,
[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_02]: it just happens to be the blue guy with the fallacies.
[00:34:20] [SPEAKER_02]: And you kind of notice that the humans tend to hang with the humans
[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_02]: and the others hang with the others.
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I think there's only one time we see an alien hanging out with the human
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and it's Wato.
[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's with Warwick Davis at the pod raise.
[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_02]: But that can also be arguably interpreted as dwarves
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_02]: along with the weird aliens, which is kind of furthering
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_02]: the offensiveness of the idea.
[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that the only chill alien characters in the movies
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_02]: are the movie.
[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_02]: There's two announcers, I think, are neutral.
[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_02]: And Anakin is friends with a baby Rodion,
[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_02]: who is the green, I've read somewhere that there's a character named Greedow,
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_02]: somewhere in the fan fiction.
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And yes, there are Rodion's, yes, there's this little baby Rodion
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_02]: and he just kind of loses arms around.
[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think he's really significant enough character
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_02]: to consider him to be on the good guide side and also relatable.
[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_02]: There's no aliens who are relatable.
[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like the humans are us and then the other things are weird
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_02]: and scarier, strange or annoying or silly.
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_02]: But there's no understanding or empathy for the alien characters.
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_02]: There's always others.
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that the Phantom Menaces is about how you stay with your kind
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'll stay with my kind.
[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's racism, basically, is what the Phantom Menaces about.
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I like that.
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_04]: It's a xenophobic piece of shit movie, is what he's saying.
[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, because we've been wrestling with the...
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_04]: How to get to racism street.
[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it gets racism street.
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_05]: But also just these creaky stereotypes that the movie is like
[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_05]: throwing in our face and it's like, what larger point is you trying to make?
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_05]: And Miles came with a clear through line, which is all the humans in the film
[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_05]: either have regal British accents.
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_05]: They speak like a graduate of Rada.
[00:36:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they're like BBC newscasts.
[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Or they just have these like, mid-Atlantic accents.
[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Like all the American characters in the film.
[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Right, like Anakin or...
[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Padme.
[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Padme.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Padme.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Padme.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Not Queen Emma Doll.
[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Padme in the Bureau.
[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, not Padme.
[00:36:52] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm a doll.
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_05]: No, Padme in the Bureau.
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, but the aliens are all gross and...
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_05]: And he was saying...
[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Except for the gunkins.
[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_04]: And they are gross, but they're helpful.
[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_04]: They're gross with their little babies.
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_04]: They're friendly with little babies.
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_04]: They're little babies.
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_04]: So their own hair as well.
[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Completely other.
[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_05]: To Miles's point, Jar Jar is a fuck up.
[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Like he's a pain in the ass in the movie.
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Like he's not a bad guy.
[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_05]: No.
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_05]: But he causes a lot of damage and ultimately
[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_05]: only saves the day by causing accidental damage
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_05]: that is positive.
[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Correct.
[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, so it is like...
[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, uh, the other is either stupid or evil.
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Jar Jar is stupid.
[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_05]: He means well, but he's stupid.
[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Big old, stupid face.
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Evanol says evil and conniving.
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, George Lucas clearly has...
[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Weird issues that he hasn't dealt with.
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_05]: But here's a good point to offer a little correction.
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_05]: And we expect, I'd mentioned that uh,
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that the seeming racism of the film was out.
[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Ah, it's with the fact that George Lucas was such a big supporter of African-American rights.
[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, and uh, made the film read Tales because he felt like a black history
[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_05]: was not represented as much in the media as white history.
[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, the new hired a black director for it.
[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, he wasn't, you know, like he made...
[00:38:05] [SPEAKER_04]: He made efforts to make like people of color represented in that film
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_04]: through like not just in the cast.
[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_05]: That was a passion project.
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_05]: He was originally going to build uh, large sound stages in California.
[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. I feel like there's a buck coming though.
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_05]: We didn't get the zoning for it.
[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, you know, there's neighbors didn't approve.
[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_05]: So he instead with this land he has decided to turn to afford.
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh yeah, no, I heard about that, which is great.
[00:38:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. She's, he does a lot of great shit.
[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, and, and I said that he is married to an African-American woman,
[00:38:33] [SPEAKER_05]: right, which is correct.
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I, the time I believe said, I think she's the editor of Jet Magazine.
[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you did say that, or Epony Magazine.
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_05]: You said either Jet or Epony.
[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Turns out she's one of the most successful venture capitalists in the world.
[00:38:47] [SPEAKER_04]: So you're just an idiot.
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's at racist who assumed that a black person would be in charge of Jet Magazine.
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_04]: No.
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_04]: No.
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_04]: No. She's important.
[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_04]: She's like the editor of Jet Magazine.
[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_05]: It's racist to assume that if he, if she's a six-class fool,
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_04]: his sense of woman, that it must be.
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like a fashion magazine or something.
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. I'm an idiot. She gave a great TED talk that you should all look up recently.
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_04]: What's her name?
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't remember it.
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Is it Melissa Lucas?
[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Is that?
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Anyway.
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_04]: I think that was, is that his wife?
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Is something her ex-wife?
[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_05]: But she's like the chief financial officer of DreamWorks animation.
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_05]: But she also ran a hedge fund.
[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, so she's like, yeah, she's just a useless.
[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Her name is Melody Hobson.
[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_05]: But she's, yeah, she's, she's done a lot of stuff.
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_05]: She's a very impressive lady in high politics for assuming that you worked for Jet Magazine.
[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Your piece of shit.
[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm a piece of shit.
[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_05]: If there's any through line to our show, what the show is about,
[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_05]: It's that you are the judge or the judge or the captain.
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm the judge or the judge or the judge.
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_04]: So you're the secret success, but also, you know,
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_04]: it's great.
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_04]: A lot of calamities occur.
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_04]: And I'm next to you on my, what is this?
[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_04]: What are they right?
[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know what they're right.
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:39:58] [SPEAKER_04]: My younger creature.
[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Cancek and brief detour.
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_05]: You're going to have a little merchandise file, aren't you?
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_04]: No, sure.
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, because we've got to wrap it up,
[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_05]: got to wrap up all the threads.
[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, right.
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you know what this sound is right here?
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_05]: That sounds like comic tech chips.
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_05]: This is $30 worth of contact ships.
[00:40:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I have not been able to recover my contact reader.
[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Good. Perfect.
[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_05]: So we're just going to open the judge's extra use.
[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to play for you the sounds of how the chips sound just physically as items.
[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_05]: As plastic trotters.
[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm actually a little excited to hold these things because I've heard about this.
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a this is a cover box.
[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_05]: An inside is a Taco Bell bag.
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Ooh.
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_05]: This is wrapped in a plastic Taco Bell bag.
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, wow.
[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so let's just rub some of these chips together and hear what do you got there?
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_05]: A box mask.
[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, and I got here.
[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_05]: What are they?
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's leave.
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Lleuk Sky Walker.
[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know who the fuck this is.
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, Sky Walker that's Anakin's name.
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_04]: So maybe it's his like grandpa or something from his novel.
[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_04]: It says a spiring pilot.
[00:40:58] [SPEAKER_04]: So maybe this is a we got quite on.
[00:41:01] [SPEAKER_04]: We got amodala.
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I have something that is just star wars.
[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't really know what that's the one that comes with the contact reader.
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just got some various sound effects.
[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I got Adi Galiah here, member of the Jedi Council.
[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Rick O'Leigh.
[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'm excited to be showing me.
[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I got two of the big ones right here.
[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I got I got Anakin.
[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Anakin Skywalker.
[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_05]: These are all numbered by the way and on the back they have a name and a status.
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Anakin Skywalker, son of Shemie Skywalker owned by water.
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_05]: And then I got Kaya D Mundi and I'm going to play for you right here.
[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's the sound of two contexts being rubbed together.
[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_05]: This is really exciting podcasting.
[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm just looking for TCC 14 right now.
[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_05]: We got to get a TCC 14 here, right?
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_05]: There was definitely a list of these all.
[00:41:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Admiral Mody.
[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know who he is.
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_04]: He's probably a friend of his.
[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_04]: The booth puts soldier.
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_05]: This is this is now seeing them all split out in the table like this.
[00:41:54] [SPEAKER_05]: This was a really stupid person.
[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, you like this one though.
[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no, gas.
[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_04]: No, that's not your favorite of the.
[00:42:00] [SPEAKER_05]: He's the one I almost bought and he turned out to be a piece of shit.
[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_05]: He's the one with the multiple arms.
[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_05]: The guy I like the most.
[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_05]: There's Tarpals.
[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's Wato.
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_05]: You got some good ones.
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_05]: These are the ones I have dupes of somewhere.
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_04]: He's got fan fiction character Greedow that he was talking about.
[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Whatever the fuck he's talking about.
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I do like that Miles info to Wato's box which I previously said was the most important.
[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's Odymanger.
[00:42:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Is it possible?
[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I got I got 34 contextships.
[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_05]: They didn't list which ones were in there.
[00:42:28] [SPEAKER_05]: They just said it was an assortment with no dupe.
[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_05]: But this isn't the complete collection.
[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_05]: How do you got 48?
[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe.
[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I think it's 48.
[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a lot.
[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a lot.
[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Is it possible that I didn't get TC14?
[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, what did she have a context?
[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, 100%.
[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_05]: She had a figure and she had a context.
[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, it looks like you didn't get her.
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_05]: So congrats.
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, great.
[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_05]: The fucking $35 spent for nothing.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_05]: For not.
[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_05]: This is awful.
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a worst day in my life.
[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_05]: No, it's not.
[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_05]: There's some really good ones.
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you're right.
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Because saving grace.
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_05]: What's here?
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_05]: A second package.
[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh oh.
[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god.
[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_05]: A second package is a fragile on it.
[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_05]: What is this?
[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_05]: David, I told you I had surprises.
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_05]: I showed up late and you were in the bathroom.
[00:43:07] [SPEAKER_05]: So you didn't even see.
[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_05]: I brought this box in.
[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_05]: You didn't even know it was here.
[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I did.
[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_05]: What am I?
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_05]: What's coming out of this?
[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god.
[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Deluxe 12 inch electronic talking TC14.
[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_04]: No, look closer.
[00:43:23] [SPEAKER_04]: You're a body.
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I want to get the microphone.
[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_04]: It is incredible.
[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Look at her.
[00:43:28] [SPEAKER_05]: There's a trimey button.
[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to see if the batteries are dead.
[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_05]: No, it's working.
[00:43:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to hold it to the mic.
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_05]: It's very quiet but it's working.
[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Come on TC14.
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Come on Lindsey.
[00:43:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, Ben is checking to see if that was not picked up by the microphone.
[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to listen to, I'll tell you the phrases.
[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm TC14 at your surface.
[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh god, I bet you aren't it.
[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_05]: My master will be with you shortly.
[00:43:51] [SPEAKER_05]: You're my master, TC14 Master, my body.
[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_05]: We are greatly honored by your visit.
[00:43:55] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, wait until I visit your vagina.
[00:43:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Make yourself comfortable in your vagina.
[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_05]: And this way, ambassador into my vagina.
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_05]: So that's TC14.
[00:44:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I have a disgusting sexual access.
[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_04]: You're like an ex-mark in a sequel coming, but it's just about you trying to build a TC14.
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Probably.
[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_04]: This is no joke when the sexiest sense I've ever seen.
[00:44:14] [SPEAKER_04]: It is actually really.
[00:44:15] [SPEAKER_04]: It's this is the thing.
[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, this is a very well-made toy.
[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks really good.
[00:44:19] [SPEAKER_05]: It's large.
[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_05]: It's huge.
[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Huge.
[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_05]: It talks.
[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_05]: It says everything.
[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Make fit.
[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I just know I didn't know who would have.
[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_05]: This was made just so we could find this.
[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_04]: You said, like there's only a few of the 12 inches, right?
[00:44:31] [SPEAKER_04]: Like there's like Jar Jar and quiet, like, you know, these big toys that weren't meant to.
[00:44:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, 12 inches, I'd say it's the main 10 characters, right?
[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe 12.
[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_05]: And then of the 12 inches, they're only three, I believe, electronic.
[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a lot to talk about.
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_05]: It was their four.
[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_05]: It was Jar Jar, Qui-Gon, Darth Maul, all obvious choices.
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_05]: And in TC14, who speaks five phrases
[00:44:53] [SPEAKER_05]: that represent all five lines of dialogue she has in the name myself.
[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_04]: It's so shiny.
[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_05]: It's so shiny.
[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_04]: And can we imagine, like, this bombs with two cups.
[00:45:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[00:45:04] [SPEAKER_04]: And a cut, T serving, a kettle.
[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and then the tray, the tray tray.
[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_05]: It's all, all the things you CTC14 hold in the movie.
[00:45:12] [SPEAKER_05]: This, yeah, no, this is a remarkable thing.
[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_05]: It's an amazing condition.
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_05]: The box looks like it's just off the show.
[00:45:18] [SPEAKER_05]: This looks like a new release.
[00:45:19] [SPEAKER_05]: It does.
[00:45:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_05]: So I didn't get a TC14 counter-tripe,
[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_05]: but I got the fucking 38.
[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_05]: And then I have, I can make TC, TC14 talk all.
[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Great. That was this week's merchandise spotlight.
[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you, Griffith.
[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_05]: This week's segment is subtitled.
[00:45:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Griffin spends too much money.
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Are you one of the people?
[00:45:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Are you going to keep this in the box?
[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_04]: What's your, okay, good.
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_04]: No, you're not one of those weird.
[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_05]: No, I might keep the box.
[00:45:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, there's a nice cardboard insert here
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_05]: that like, it's like a background.
[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_05]: So try to sort of make her look.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no, I get it.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And here, play setting the movie.
[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I might keep that for just by, I don't keep the box.
[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_05]: And sometimes put it back in there.
[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_05]: When I, that's the fantasy I want to play out at that time.
[00:46:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Just, just to be clear, like, I'm not into like submissive treatment of women.
[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_05]: That's not like, actually, what gets my bag.
[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_05]: But TC14 is not a woman.
[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_05]: She's a robot.
[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_05]: So I'm really into that.
[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_05]: This is sexy.
[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm just identifying robot.
[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a great toy.
[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_05]: That was a good use of my contact ships or maybe a boss.
[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_05]: But I know, I'm going to go, no, I like to come to my parent's apartment.
[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to find solid.
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I can see why you were hoodwinked into buying these when you were a kid.
[00:46:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and now I have the collection I always wanted.
[00:46:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I never had enough.
[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh my god.
[00:46:38] [SPEAKER_05]: There can never have enough contact ships who Chancellor Valorant here.
[00:46:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh 41.
[00:46:43] [SPEAKER_05]: These are all numbered.
[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, okay, great.
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Great.
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Great.
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Merchant, I spotlight.
[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_05]: The best.
[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_05]: We have an audio clip here from Kenny Olgovie.
[00:46:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Who is an Australian?
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Gentlemen, I worked with it.
[00:46:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Some are camp years ago.
[00:46:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I haven't spoken to him a long time.
[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm very excited to hear from him again.
[00:47:04] [SPEAKER_05]: And here's thoughts.
[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And he says here, I feel that you are facing the same weight that cereal did when approaching
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_05]: the penultimate and final episode.
[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_05]: How to side with Phantom Assays about.
[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Hopefully, lawyers somewhere decide to cash in on your audience and make their own podcasts about further
[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_05]: investigations into the plot.
[00:47:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Right, makes sense?
[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_05]: That George Lucas is a litigious sort.
[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_05]: And now the Disney own Star Wars for whatever fucking reason.
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_05]: They might have some sort of retaliation.
[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_05]: So this file is called Star Years.
[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Clever title there.
[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's go.
[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_05]: And please sit down and take it away.
[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_05]: I think.
[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Star was the Phantom Menace episode one.
[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Was really ambitious.
[00:47:48] [SPEAKER_01]: It seems to have been a precursor to Joseph Campbell's The Heroes Journey.
[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've got these expositional circumstances that are leading up to a moment we don't see.
[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And the first step of any journey would be the call to adventure.
[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And I feel that a character that we have not yet met from the film or from the world is being set up in this story.
[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think the movie exists as an expositional way to introduce you to this call to adventure.
[00:48:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't feel that there are any moments that are not trying to set up something in the future.
[00:48:58] [SPEAKER_01]: There is certain storylines that are adventurous and using that journey.
[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_01]: But there's no old wise man inside of the road.
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've got all these older characters who should be mentors.
[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And the idea of the mentor is looked at in the film.
[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But you know, the wise old man, the wise old kung fu master on the side of the road who is hidden from the hero and
[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_01]: who receives him and guides him on a journey.
[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just not there.
[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no paradise to return to.
[00:49:48] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no, this is what we're fighting for.
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And this is what, you know, there's no stakes that are, you know, there's nothing at stake.
[00:49:59] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no gravity to those stakes.
[00:50:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the best way I can describe that is, you know, when I saw Lord of the Rings as a trilogy,
[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_01]: you know, you could see that hero's journey will are established and that what are we fighting for this Shia?
[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And I feel that, you know, that film really booked Markt, the journey of the Lord of the Rings really well,
[00:50:29] [SPEAKER_01]: ignoring a lot of other source material from the books and really returned to that paradise.
[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And ignoring things that happened at the end of the book just to visually give that audience there.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_01]: This is paradise, and this is what we've achieved by adventureing.
[00:50:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I agree, Kenny.
[00:50:48] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a movie about nothing.
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like that's your take in summation.
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a movie about nothing.
[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a bridge to nowhere.
[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_04]: And it, hey, yeah, it doesn't follow the storytelling principles.
[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it's trying to follow.
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yeah, and it feels like it's stuff.
[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_05]: As we've talked about a lot, if you also get setting up a lot of things that we never get to see because they live in one fucking movie.
[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_05]: That's not how you make movies.
[00:51:09] [SPEAKER_05]: This is the problem.
[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not how you make movies.
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_05]: I just applied ChapeStack.
[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not how you make movies.
[00:51:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Every movie should work as its own individual experience.
[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_05]: You can't put stuff off to go, someday we'll get to that later.
[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_05]: So I don't agree with this entirely.
[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_04]: We're like, we're like, we're with it to some extent.
[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_04]: It's just, I feel like this is being lobbed at the Marvel movies a lot right now.
[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_04]: But all those movies are pretty enjoyable on their own.
[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I think a couple of them are really...
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Carpool of the movie.
[00:51:32] [SPEAKER_05]: But I even think less about that and more of other franchise starters that never took off like that.
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Tupper with us.
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_04]: That's the thing.
[00:51:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Ironman?
[00:51:40] [SPEAKER_04]: That's its own movie.
[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_04]: It is a franchise starter, but it doesn't seem like one.
[00:51:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I'm not saying within the market.
[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm just saying, like, that's your, you're with the starter.
[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_04]: You can't just be like, guys, you wait for the next one.
[00:51:51] [SPEAKER_04]: You got to be like, here's a movie.
[00:51:53] [SPEAKER_04]: Did you like it?
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay then.
[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Let's make more.
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I might have already referenced this on the podcast.
[00:51:58] [SPEAKER_05]: But I remember reading some interview with Noted Director McG before the release of Terminator
[00:52:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Salvation.
[00:52:07] [SPEAKER_05]: You've...you've references to me and much of you've recently arrested on the podcast.
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_05]: And it was before that movie came out.
[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_05]: And that movie was supposed to be the start of a new fucking...
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Terminator franchise.
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_05]: It was going to be its orange...
[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, the orange...
[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_05]: The orange garbage.
[00:52:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_05]: But they were talking about a common and how small his role was in the first one he went.
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I told a common we got big plans for him in the second and third film.
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_05]: And it's like, no, you're fucking... if your... his character becomes interesting two and three
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_05]: make it fucking interesting in the first one.
[00:52:36] [SPEAKER_05]: And then make it more interesting later.
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I completely...
[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Why put a character in him we'd have him do fucking nothing.
[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_03]: That's just common sense.
[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, but God, producer benefits so smart.
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_05]: And I heard you have your own take.
[00:52:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Then we want to hear your heart take.
[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I got my own hashtag hot takes.
[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Alright, I'll play.
[00:52:52] [SPEAKER_03]: So the fan of menace is this shadowy figure that's pulling the strings behind the scenes.
[00:52:59] [SPEAKER_03]: A controlling destinies affecting many worlds.
[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_03]: The universe in his hands.
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_03]: This movie's about the man.
[00:53:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, you're saying like capital T, capital M, the man.
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I'm saying.
[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, that's interesting and just quickly before we analyze your analysis.
[00:53:16] [SPEAKER_05]: I want to make it clear that you were reading that from a prewritten text.
[00:53:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Poet, Laurie at himself.
[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I don't want people thinking that he just spins this shit off his brain.
[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And so every time he's so concise.
[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Griffin.
[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, smart, good work, good writing, but don't think that came right off the top of the dome.
[00:53:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Put the ruler away.
[00:53:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Producer-man, Paul, Laurie.
[00:53:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Great take.
[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I do think it's about the man.
[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_05]: We talked from the beginning there's this weird distrust.
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a weird point.
[00:53:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we're going to say this enough.
[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's just a business.
[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Big business, a distrust of government.
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_05]: For a man of patriarchy.
[00:53:49] [SPEAKER_05]: For a man of super fucking wealthy and seemingly has the power to do whatever he wants.
[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_05]: It's true.
[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Make a movie completely out of the studio system.
[00:53:57] [SPEAKER_05]: With no time what to do.
[00:53:58] [SPEAKER_05]: He like hates the, he hates rules and regulations.
[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_04]: He has to bureaucracy and debate and all that.
[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_05]: But in a way that feels like it's the product of someone who is directly suffering
[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_05]: with the consequences of that in daily basis, which it could not be less true.
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, yeah, I know.
[00:54:16] [SPEAKER_04]: He's completely shielded from him.
[00:54:17] [SPEAKER_04]: But he is someone who hates studio systems and things like that.
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_04]: That is for sure.
[00:54:23] [SPEAKER_04]: And he's made a movie about the child female ruler of a planet who wants to do her own
[00:54:30] [SPEAKER_04]: thing and is blocked at every turn.
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_05]: By old white men.
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_04]: By old white men.
[00:54:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Also known as a white man.
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_05]: The man.
[00:54:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I also known just that man.
[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry, fucking.
[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Sio Biblical one.
[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Sio Biblical one is bearded.
[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_04]: So you're locking context.
[00:54:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I made a big discovery, which is the context chips each have a little in-dening.
[00:54:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Then if you could stick them together, you can lock them together.
[00:54:49] [SPEAKER_05]: It's like Lincoln Lodge.
[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty cool.
[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Second hot take.
[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you have two hot takes?
[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh boy.
[00:54:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god, bend to you.
[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[00:54:57] [SPEAKER_03]: So is it maybe perhaps about the representation of evil reading off of people here?
[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Docky, make go on.
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_03]: A Phantom Devil.
[00:55:06] [SPEAKER_03]: The greed of man.
[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Vanity, racism.
[00:55:09] [SPEAKER_03]: War.
[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And a whole lot of slavery.
[00:55:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah?
[00:55:12] [SPEAKER_04]: No, you're right.
[00:55:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Like what is the Phantom Menace?
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_04]: It's not just a guy in a hologram.
[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Giving orders.
[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_04]: It's all of these Phantom Menaces.
[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_04]: These things we can't define.
[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_05]: It's the most banal of evils.
[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_05]: You know?
[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_05]: The sort of privilege and conformity.
[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they've also been out.
[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_04]: They don't even know that that's the problem.
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:55:33] [SPEAKER_04]: That's what we're talking about.
[00:55:33] [SPEAKER_05]: We have a whole different thing to think that's such sneak into our daily lives.
[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_04]: You know?
[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Sports gambling, sports gambling.
[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_05]: The thing that started my father's long assent towards financial instability.
[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Cut that out.
[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Cut in it.
[00:55:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And lastly, third take.
[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, boom.
[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[00:55:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I like it.
[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Guys, is this a representation of nihilism?
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Ooh.
[00:55:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Stoll politics.
[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Urban decay.
[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Biting for a cause.
[00:56:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But what cause?
[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_03]: It's useless.
[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Who's our hero?
[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Nothing matters at the end of the day, guys.
[00:56:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Everything's going to crumble, grind to a halt.
[00:56:11] [SPEAKER_04]: The Jedi are ants trying to affect like, you know, you're firing a bullet at a train.
[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:56:18] [SPEAKER_04]: It's not going to make a difference.
[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Excellent point raised in that period.
[00:56:21] [SPEAKER_05]: You just read off computer screen, man.
[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_05]: No, I agree.
[00:56:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, yeah.
[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_05]: The argument for the movie is sort of about futility.
[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_05]: We complain about like what the fuck is happening.
[00:56:30] [SPEAKER_04]: And those people are like, great.
[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_04]: The train negotiations are over.
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_04]: The gongans and the nubu people are at peace.
[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_04]: But then it's like, what do you say is the guy?
[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_04]: What do you want?
[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:56:40] [SPEAKER_04]: They're quite on die.
[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_04]: And I can just to sleep in another person's hands.
[00:56:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Jar Jar is like getting promote.
[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Jar is in charge of things now.
[00:56:48] [SPEAKER_05]: For competence by accident.
[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_05]: This is how this is the finale of evil.
[00:56:53] [SPEAKER_05]: How someone can rise to the top just to do the right place at the right time.
[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Jar is almost, he's like, it's like a, yeah, go-go story.
[00:56:58] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like an old Russian.
[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, this sort of idiot bureaucrat just rises through the ranks.
[00:57:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, someone else like, you know, it's a little like being there if being there with
[00:57:08] [SPEAKER_05]: himself.
[00:57:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, you're totally right.
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Jar Jar is like a forest gumping.
[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_05]: He's he's like a chancey gardener.
[00:57:13] [SPEAKER_05]: No, or yeah, a chancey gardener for us come because first
[00:57:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Compens to a work off of being there.
[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they go what's your name and he goes chance the gardener and they go, oh,
[00:57:19] [SPEAKER_05]: chancey gardener.
[00:57:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Like they make into a fancy or name.
[00:57:21] [SPEAKER_05]: And he's just a dumb.
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_05]: He's adult.
[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_05]: He's like a man, while he's a gardener.
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_05]: That's why my favorite movie is a wild guy.
[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Being there's a good movie.
[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_05]: First company.
[00:57:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Sort of the proto Jar Jar.
[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I are all good.
[00:57:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Touching hot chicks.
[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Those are hot takes and they definitely, man, I'm going to need some mittens for those
[00:57:35] [SPEAKER_05]: takes.
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they definitely, it'll little too hot to handle and also it's easy to come up with
[00:57:39] [SPEAKER_05]: takes at hot when you take the time to write them advance.
[00:57:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I just, I'm not diminishing your accomplishment, but I want to make clear
[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_05]: you and I are just riffing David.
[00:57:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Hey, yeah, we're just going off the top of the dumb.
[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_04]: We're like jazz musicians.
[00:57:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, exactly.
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_05]: But I'm, but I'm, but I'm, but I'm, but I'm, but I'm, it's almost
[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_04]: the things we don't say or is important is the things you do.
[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_04]: A hundred percent, especially during fan fiction episode,
[00:57:56] [SPEAKER_04]: or you mostly talk about quite a lot of on the penis.
[00:57:58] [SPEAKER_05]: God.
[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_05]: What a nice dick.
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, you're welcome.
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Uncircum sized.
[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, he's Irish.
[00:58:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:58:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Space Irish.
[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_05]: I was saving this take for last.
[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, okay.
[00:58:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I think it's the best one.
[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, I haven't even read this one.
[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Chris Cookson.
[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_05]: This Chris Cookson is an old buddy in mind, haven't seen him in a couple years either.
[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm reconnected with all these people through this podcast.
[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a wonderful wonderful news.
[00:58:19] [SPEAKER_05]: He's a fantastic animator and a great guy.
[00:58:23] [SPEAKER_05]: And he wrote this take, which I think put the entire movie into perspective for me.
[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_05]: It's the answer I've been looking for.
[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Whoa.
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I spent a lot of time thinking about this very question while listening to the
[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Phantom podcast and has been haunting me for weeks.
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_05]: And it was how we feel.
[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Star Wars episode one, The Fantel Manus, is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside
[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_05]: an enigma.
[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_05]: The further I try to look at it, the more and more difficult the question becomes.
[00:58:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Boy, I'm relating to this, right?
[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_05]: This is just the story of the Phantom podcast of far.
[00:58:48] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not a coming a draage story because Anakin ever really learned
[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_05]: about anything throughout the whole film.
[00:58:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Nor is it a film that a bunch of outcast, nobles and train monks learning about how
[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_05]: friendship can overcome social and political turmoil because there's no chemistry
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_05]: between any of the cast and no one really grows.
[00:59:02] [SPEAKER_05]: That's kind of cutting Nathan's Wagner's take.
[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry, dude.
[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know size.
[00:59:09] [SPEAKER_05]: So he's not going to have things a lot of things it isn't, which is I feel like we've been
[00:59:12] [SPEAKER_05]: doing more of that than come with an answer just being like it's not this.
[00:59:15] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not that far.
[00:59:16] [SPEAKER_04]: We're trimming the bonsai tree, but it's certainly a sort of something.
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's quite we're just going to have a little stick.
[00:59:21] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[00:59:22] [SPEAKER_05]: The hears are Chris Cookson.
[00:59:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, takes a gun out of the holster.
[00:59:25] [SPEAKER_05]: To me, the Phantom Mass is a story about consequences about how seemingly unrelated actions
[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_05]: can have larger implications.
[00:59:33] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a movie that manages to have all the crowd pleasing scenes audiences demand without
[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_05]: any real reason to build it up.
[00:59:39] [SPEAKER_05]: As a result, the overall story and ideas present in the film are abstract.
[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm using on the Hollywood Blockbuster formula, race relations, and the role individual
[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_05]: government's going to have in bringing world order.
[00:59:50] [SPEAKER_05]: And here's his final sentence, this is a fucking way, me.
[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_05]: It is simultaneously about nothing and everything at the same time.
[00:59:59] [SPEAKER_05]: In some ways, it is the very first Blockbuster arc film.
[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_04]: So he's saying that it's like a chaos theory with me.
[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Like it's like the movie is just a bunch of people flap in their wings and a bunch of stuff
[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_04]: is happening as a result.
[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_04]: But like to look for connection beyond that you have to zoom all the way out and just see
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_04]: this is just a ball of chaos.
[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Right, so that's the thing that it takes to the film.
[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_05]: But on a metal level, he's also saying that the structure of the film with a lot of boring
[01:00:28] [SPEAKER_05]: expositions and exciting actions sequences like the Padre said have no bearing on the rest
[01:00:32] [SPEAKER_05]: of the film is also in consequential.
[01:00:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Like the things we want as moviegoers don't have any impact on the rest of the film, which
[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_05]: we have to see, which has enormous impact, but we don't care about.
[01:00:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_05]: And he's saying because of that, it's the film's caught in this constant paradox.
[01:00:47] [SPEAKER_05]: It's like an abstract work of art.
[01:00:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, this goes back to what George was saying, which is an acubes just trying to make
[01:00:53] [SPEAKER_05]: a silent movie.
[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, go back to his fucking UCLA short films and there's cars in motion.
[01:00:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I think he resents the fact that he has to make a movie with characters and dialogue and
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_05]: things.
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Sure.
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe that's why his things, the he includes for, quote unquote, the audience are so
[01:01:09] [SPEAKER_04]: hateful and evil like George R. Binks.
[01:01:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Like he's trying to torture us being like, oh, you want character development?
[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_05]: This is what fucking character development looks like.
[01:01:16] [SPEAKER_05]: How many times have I said George R. Binks in the last 10 weeks?
[01:01:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Too many times.
[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_05]: But I think Chris is right.
[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_05]: I think it's some lead out everything and nothing.
[01:01:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, that's a little bit of an easy answer, Griffin Newman.
[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_04]: It's about everything and nothing.
[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_05]: But isn't that a nice answer?
[01:01:30] [SPEAKER_04]: You're really covering your bases there.
[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Isn't that a nice answer because that way it accepts all of the previous takes?
[01:01:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I know you're we're dovetailing here.
[01:01:38] [SPEAKER_04]: I know what you're doing.
[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_05]: As canon, perhaps everyone's right.
[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Perhaps the fan semesters is a raw check test.
[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a carnival mirror.
[01:01:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:01:48] [SPEAKER_04]: What you've seen it is what you got.
[01:01:51] [SPEAKER_05]: And maybe that's why we examine art in the first place.
[01:01:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe it's a figure who we are.
[01:01:57] [SPEAKER_04]: This is this is beautiful.
[01:01:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Now you're given now.
[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_04]: So really what we're talking about though is what is this podcast about?
[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Because right.
[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Why we why why watch movies.
[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_04]: You're bringing it all the way around them and zooming out.
[01:02:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Listen, a music.
[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Read books because we want to find things that make us feel alive that make the
[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_05]: insufferable, mind-numbing, overwhelming reality of existence makes sense for just a second.
[01:02:24] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't know why we're on this fucking planet.
[01:02:25] [SPEAKER_04]: That's what we're looking for in art.
[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Why are we alive?
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_05]: It makes no sense.
[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Why are we the dominant species?
[01:02:29] [SPEAKER_05]: This makes no sense.
[01:02:30] [SPEAKER_05]: We could be able to play with a bunch of aliens.
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_05]: We're all living together and instead we're the only species that's evolved to this point.
[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_05]: When we have fucking John Badgeou says in shit and we wear sketches, how do this happen?
[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_05]: It makes no sense.
[01:02:43] [SPEAKER_05]: It's overwhelming.
[01:02:43] [SPEAKER_05]: You see a movie for two hours.
[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_05]: You go it's about the fury road.
[01:02:47] [SPEAKER_05]: It's about getting the wives back to the green place.
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_05]: So the green place.
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_05]: And it makes you feel better.
[01:02:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And it goes, yeah, we should treat women more nicely.
[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Things like that makes you feel good.
[01:02:57] [SPEAKER_05]: And the phantom man says, oh, you want that.
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_05]: You want that source as fact.
[01:03:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not going to fucking give it to you.
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just throwing so much garbage out in your face that you can't fucking process it.
[01:03:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And we sit there for 10 weeks and we try to break it down and we can't do it.
[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_05]: It's impossible.
[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_04]: It is impossible.
[01:03:11] [SPEAKER_05]: And does this what the movie is?
[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_04]: We are Sissy Fiss rolling up the profile.
[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Can rock up a hill.
[01:03:16] [SPEAKER_05]: The movie is saying, oh, you want movies.
[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_05]: You want exciting space travel.
[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_05]: This is what it is except it's not.
[01:03:21] [SPEAKER_05]: And so now you have to take a long hard look in a mirror and figure out who you actually
[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_05]: are and what you want to do.
[01:03:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like I've learned a lot about myself doing this podcast.
[01:03:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I've learned a lot about you and about myself.
[01:03:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe that's what the phantom man says about.
[01:03:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow, listeners.
[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I wish you could just see that.
[01:03:36] [SPEAKER_03]: That was like experiencing Davis while Davis like yeah, that was jazz and it's high.
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_04]: We did not do it.
[01:03:43] [SPEAKER_04]: The original bitches brewing here.
[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm hungry.
[01:03:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm hungry too.
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, so we'll be taking a little break.
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll be coming back with a bonus app early June.
[01:03:57] [SPEAKER_05]: The feature line commentary our last time watching the phantom man is that week.
[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_05]: And then we'll be doing judging the judge and after that, I mean, sci-fi is fun to cover.
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_05]: So you know what I'm thinking?
[01:04:07] [SPEAKER_05]: IMDB has a feature similar too.
[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Movie connections.
[01:04:10] [SPEAKER_05]: So you can see like other things that are similar.
[01:04:12] [SPEAKER_05]: So we can see if we could find any comparisons here.
[01:04:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's see here there's a references sections.
[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Apparently phantom man has references.
[01:04:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Casablanca, cis and cane, the wizard of eyes, the traplists, and the buster
[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_05]: keyton, classic seven chances.
[01:04:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I did not pick up on any of those references.
[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_05]: But apparently it also references the phantom.
[01:04:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Viva's app at up because it features the line wipe them out all of them.
[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Stupid.
[01:04:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's look up here.
[01:04:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Other similar phantom.
[01:04:39] [SPEAKER_05]: By second.
[01:04:40] [SPEAKER_04]: What do you got?
[01:04:42] [SPEAKER_04]: My guess is one of the similar films to the phantom man.
[01:04:46] [SPEAKER_04]: So a movie that came after it.
[01:04:48] [SPEAKER_04]: But there's a section here and it says, followed by.
[01:04:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Followed by.
[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Star Wars episode two.
[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, that one assumes that would have been the title of the failed sequel
[01:05:00] [SPEAKER_04]: that was not picked up by a studio or anything like that.
[01:05:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Right Ben?
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_04]: I assume so.
[01:05:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Sometimes I need to be as credits for films that are in development.
[01:05:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[01:05:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[01:05:09] [SPEAKER_05]: But hold on.
[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_05]: This one has a subtitle.
[01:05:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It says a tack of the clones.
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_04]: That's not a great title.
[01:05:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Interesting.
[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_04]: And then and print this is next to it is 2002.
[01:05:20] [SPEAKER_04]: So that was when it was the planned release date was true.
[01:05:23] [SPEAKER_05]: I think I did work so let me click on this link.
[01:05:28] [SPEAKER_04]: What are you talking about, Griffin?
[01:05:29] [SPEAKER_05]: By the way, I'm still confused.
[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_05]: The day we were recording this right now, David pointed out
[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_05]: is the 17th anniversary.
[01:05:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Sixth anniversary.
[01:05:36] [SPEAKER_05]: The release of the phantom.
[01:05:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah.
[01:05:37] [SPEAKER_05]: You won't be listening to it on that day.
[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_05]: But no, that we're doing it.
[01:05:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, David.
[01:05:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Release date may 16th 2002.
[01:05:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Box office gross 310 domestic $310.
[01:05:50] [SPEAKER_04]: So probably just played in the 1field.
[01:05:52] [SPEAKER_05]: 310 million.
[01:05:53] [SPEAKER_05]: This is a runtime 142 minutes.
[01:05:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Ben, you have 20 minutes.
[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm actually struck face.
[01:05:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Sound mix, DTS, W digitally, X, color 2.35 to 1 aspect ratio.
[01:06:03] [SPEAKER_05]: This sounds like a finished movie.
[01:06:04] [SPEAKER_05]: There's another movie.
[01:06:06] [SPEAKER_04]: There's another star wars movie.
[01:06:08] [SPEAKER_04]: The whole time under our nose.
[01:06:10] [SPEAKER_04]: There's an a cool hood of the arc.
[01:06:12] [SPEAKER_04]: He did it.
[01:06:13] [SPEAKER_04]: The crazy fast.
[01:06:15] [SPEAKER_05]: The crazy faster didn't he pulled it off.
[01:06:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Stormers episode two.
[01:06:20] [SPEAKER_05]: The phantom man, as I assume the whole cast is back.
[01:06:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, yeah, yeah.
[01:06:23] [SPEAKER_05]: You and my Gregor's will be on Kinovi.
[01:06:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Of course.
[01:06:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Now Lee Parkman is Padme.
[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Of course.
[01:06:27] [SPEAKER_05]: And then playing the role there in Kinskai Walker.
[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Hayed in Christiansen.
[01:06:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, the guy who was in life is a house.
[01:06:33] [SPEAKER_05]: But that's weird.
[01:06:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Everyone at other actors the same and then suddenly.
[01:06:37] [SPEAKER_05]: So is this set significantly in the future?
[01:06:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Is now Lee poorman going to be wearing old age makeup because probably enough times.
[01:06:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's high to the point.
[01:06:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm just gone since the time do you have here.
[01:06:50] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
[01:06:50] [SPEAKER_05]: That title will attack at the clones.
[01:06:53] [SPEAKER_04]: That's a media or title.
[01:06:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I would think, though.
[01:06:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean what?
[01:06:56] [SPEAKER_05]: The breakout star of the phantom manus was Darth Maul or Gragra.
[01:07:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Darth Maul dies.
[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_04]: He does.
[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_04]: So you're just going to wait.
[01:07:06] [SPEAKER_04]: So we've just discovered there is another Star Wars movie.
[01:07:08] [SPEAKER_04]: I can't.
[01:07:09] [SPEAKER_04]: This is huge by the way.
[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_04]: This is insane.
[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_04]: We're going to need to clear out.
[01:07:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Judging the judge.
[01:07:13] [SPEAKER_04]: But then we're going to need clear out some time to do this.
[01:07:15] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to judge in the judge and then I think we're going to devote another
[01:07:17] [SPEAKER_05]: ten weeks.
[01:07:17] [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to be talking about the podcast.
[01:07:19] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll do a tack of the podcast.
[01:07:19] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll do a tack of the podcast.
[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_05]: But that was the most sequels.
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_05]: When you make a sequel, you go one of the audience on the breakout hits of the
[01:07:26] [SPEAKER_05]: What do they like about the first movie?
[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Not by the way.
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Phantomenus made a lot of money.
[01:07:30] [SPEAKER_04]: It is not that surprising that this sequel happened in one way.
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_04]: You know.
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_05]: More surprising that we didn't know about it.
[01:07:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I think that's that's the major blow on our fire.
[01:07:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I made your coup.
[01:07:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_04]: It's a flop.
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_04]: It's a spoof.
[01:07:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry as the producer.
[01:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I should have been on top of that.
[01:07:43] [SPEAKER_04]: You should have known.
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Sorry.
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_04]: You spent too much time writing your hot takes.
[01:07:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Weaks and weeks on your hot takes.
[01:07:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Why do you think they were such a...
[01:07:53] [SPEAKER_05]: You're not going to cut wording because he was writing them for 10 weeks.
[01:07:57] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[01:07:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm saying if I had to speculate right now, what's about...
[01:08:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Let's just leave this.
[01:08:02] [SPEAKER_04]: We're not going to know yet but speculate what's this movie.
[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_04]: They cloned Darth Maul and he comes back now.
[01:08:07] [SPEAKER_05]: That has to be a cool sequel.
[01:08:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that'll be great.
[01:08:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Because Darth Maul's cool.
[01:08:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Comes back for Obi-Wan.
[01:08:14] [SPEAKER_05]: And now I think, you know, we're going in time.
[01:08:17] [SPEAKER_05]: And like Anna Kinn is still a padwan.
[01:08:19] [SPEAKER_05]: We're still training him.
[01:08:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:08:20] [SPEAKER_05]: He's getting... he's getting the rope to the thing.
[01:08:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:08:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Queen Amadalus Laqueen and she's like dudes.
[01:08:27] [SPEAKER_05]: This Darth Maul guy came back and they have to go back to Naboo.
[01:08:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Back to Naboo, back to where the magic happened.
[01:08:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Back to where the magic happened.
[01:08:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Get the gang back together.
[01:08:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Jar Jar is in a public general.
[01:08:36] [SPEAKER_05]: He brings in the army.
[01:08:36] [SPEAKER_05]: They all have to take on the clone version of Darth Maul.
[01:08:40] [SPEAKER_04]: That sounds like a great fucking move.
[01:08:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Based on the Phantom Menace, that makes sense.
[01:08:44] [SPEAKER_04]: That would be the obvious thing.
[01:08:46] [SPEAKER_04]: You'll have a lot of Jar Jar because he's all over the Phantom Menace.
[01:08:48] [SPEAKER_05]: But now he's a little more like he's become the very thing that we used to mock.
[01:08:53] [SPEAKER_05]: He's become the man.
[01:08:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[01:08:54] [SPEAKER_04]: The trade federation definitely won't be involved because they were defeated.
[01:08:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Out.
[01:08:57] [SPEAKER_05]: And that plot point didn't work.
[01:08:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Fans didn't like it.
[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_04]: Why would they bring it back?
[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_04]: And then Darth's ideas will probably be involved in some way again.
[01:09:04] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe he's doing the clenic.
[01:09:05] [SPEAKER_04]: He probably did the clenic.
[01:09:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Him and Palpatine or whatever, they're going to be around.
[01:09:09] [SPEAKER_05]: You did the clenic.
[01:09:10] [SPEAKER_05]: They have to beat the Darth Maul clone army.
[01:09:13] [SPEAKER_05]: But then they also have to like realize like, wait, who made this clone?
[01:09:17] [SPEAKER_04]: And maybe because there was so much groundwork late in the episode.
[01:09:20] [SPEAKER_04]: We talked about it.
[01:09:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[01:09:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Anakin and Obi-Wan finally realized how corrupt the Jedi cancel this and bring it down.
[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_04]: And Yoda maybe is your chief villain in episode 2.
[01:09:30] [SPEAKER_04]: That would be awesome.
[01:09:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Because like that guy, he's blocking them in every turn.
[01:09:34] [SPEAKER_05]: But that's the Paul Power is bad.
[01:09:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
[01:09:38] [SPEAKER_05]: And also hopefully Anakin, Obi-Wan take a quick trip to that planet with the glory halls
[01:09:43] [SPEAKER_05]: and they suck each other's cock.
[01:09:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Those are just some of the predictions, but I think we're going to have to pick up with the new case.
[01:09:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And T4 teams hopefully are prominent here already.
[01:09:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh well, yeah, it should be all over.
[01:09:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, she'd be all right.
[01:09:57] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like, I mean, if we assume fourth build is Lindsey Nook.
[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they make an electronic 12-incher.
[01:10:03] [SPEAKER_04]: They know that.
[01:10:04] [SPEAKER_04]: That's because they knew.
[01:10:05] [SPEAKER_04]: So there's an episode too.
[01:10:06] [SPEAKER_04]: That's insane.
[01:10:07] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, this actually all seems really,
[01:10:09] [SPEAKER_04]: I might have actually like been aware of that at the time.
[01:10:12] [SPEAKER_04]: I think I just sort of focused so hard on the planet.
[01:10:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it meant us.
[01:10:15] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, the crazy thing is now that we're talking about it.
[01:10:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I think I might have seen it three times in the internet.
[01:10:19] [SPEAKER_04]: And you may be on a ton of toys related to it as my idea.
[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I might have a whole thing to launch into that.
[01:10:24] [SPEAKER_05]: But I don't remember anything about it.
[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_05]: No, I mean either.
[01:10:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't remember anything about it.
[01:10:28] [SPEAKER_05]: But I probably spent upwards of $200 on merchandise because it was an older.
[01:10:32] [SPEAKER_05]: My allowance was greater.
[01:10:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, boy.
[01:10:34] [SPEAKER_05]: My allowance was greater.
[01:10:35] [SPEAKER_05]: So I definitely, yeah.
[01:10:38] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[01:10:39] [SPEAKER_04]: So viewers listeners were going.
[01:10:42] [SPEAKER_04]: But you're going to get a bonus commentary.
[01:10:44] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm judging the judges.
[01:10:45] [SPEAKER_04]: No joke happened.
[01:10:46] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm just going to happen.
[01:10:48] [SPEAKER_05]: And then we're going to end of June.
[01:10:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's say, end of June.
[01:10:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, June.
[01:10:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks forward to attack the podcast.
[01:10:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Come in here.
[01:10:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I can't believe it.
[01:10:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm so excited.
[01:10:58] [SPEAKER_05]: This is the best day of my life.
[01:11:00] [SPEAKER_04]: That's great stuff for you.
[01:11:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Not counting TC14 is a contact.
[01:11:02] [SPEAKER_04]: I know.
[01:11:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I literally remember none of it.
[01:11:04] [SPEAKER_05]: So I'm just going in cold.
[01:11:05] [SPEAKER_05]: All I remember is that I bought all the toys.
[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[01:11:08] [SPEAKER_04]: But it's all your memory.
[01:11:09] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going in cold.
[01:11:10] [SPEAKER_05]: This could be anything.
[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think my prediction is totally going to be correct.
[01:11:13] [SPEAKER_04]: So your prediction.
[01:11:14] [SPEAKER_04]: So my prediction, by the way, is bringing down the Jedi.
[01:11:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Jedi Corruption is felt by Renegade Obi-Wan and Anakin.
[01:11:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Yoda is revealed to be the end of it.
[01:11:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Yoda is the true one.
[01:11:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe he's working with Sidious.
[01:11:26] [SPEAKER_04]: And your prediction is an army of Darth Maul clones being fought by our heroes on probably
[01:11:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Gangun grounds.
[01:11:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:11:33] [SPEAKER_05]: And they got to get the gang back together.
[01:11:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We got to bring back the original team.
[01:11:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So it's Queen Amadala.
[01:11:38] [SPEAKER_05]: It's maybe even some of the hand made.
[01:11:39] [SPEAKER_05]: There goes the A's in there.
[01:11:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:11:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Definitely Captain Panaka.
[01:11:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:11:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, Jesus.
[01:11:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Jar Jar R2 C3 TC.
[01:11:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Grad Gra.
[01:11:49] [SPEAKER_05]: A lot of all.
[01:11:49] [SPEAKER_05]: So Boba pops up.
[01:11:50] [SPEAKER_05]: All our favorite friends.
[01:11:52] [SPEAKER_05]: They all team up.
[01:11:53] [SPEAKER_05]: It's like it's your old it's the Avengers.
[01:11:55] [SPEAKER_05]: That sounds great.
[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_05]: We need every character from the Phantom Manage universe.
[01:11:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Team up.
[01:11:59] [SPEAKER_04]: My expectations could not be higher.
[01:12:01] [SPEAKER_04]: They could.
[01:12:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Because the whole time we're complaining, oh, this is a movie pointing to a sequel that never happened.
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_04]: It happened.
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_04]: There was a second star or a movie.
[01:12:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It happened.
[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And also, I mean, look.
[01:12:11] [SPEAKER_05]: The Phantom response was not great.
[01:12:13] [SPEAKER_05]: It's time it's released.
[01:12:13] [SPEAKER_05]: He had to take that constructive criticism.
[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Sure he did.
[01:12:16] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure he took everything that they said to heart, especially about like too much CGI.
[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Not enough practical elements in your sets.
[01:12:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Things like that.
[01:12:22] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure he was like, you're right guys.
[01:12:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Next time it's going to be a little more tactile.
[01:12:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I own all the toys by no nothing about it and I can't wait to crack it.
[01:12:31] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_04]: That episode was long considering that we had almost nothing.
[01:12:36] [SPEAKER_05]: We had a lot to wrap up.
[01:12:37] [SPEAKER_05]: There were a lot of loose threads and we made a huge discovery.
[01:12:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Prooter Man, Inc.
[01:12:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Inclusion.
[01:12:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's been great.
[01:12:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It's been fun.
[01:12:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I don't have a prediction though.
[01:12:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I need like a week or so.
[01:12:47] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it was a script.
[01:12:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I was just thinking.
[01:12:49] [SPEAKER_03]: He does everything.
[01:12:50] [SPEAKER_05]: So this season of our podcast.
[01:12:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so in conclusion, uh,
[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_03]: kind of happy to see it wrap up.
[01:12:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[01:12:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[01:12:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, you know.
[01:12:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Good bye.
[01:13:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you forever.
[01:13:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Phantom Menace.
[01:13:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Progrins.
[01:13:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And I look forward to judging the judge.
[01:13:08] [SPEAKER_03]: And I guess I got to check out this episode too.
[01:13:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we all got to check it out.
[01:13:12] [SPEAKER_05]: But first up the judge, everyone get grab your, yeah.
[01:13:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Go to your red box, grab a copy of the judge, watch it.
[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_05]: The only way to watch the judges from a red box copy.
[01:13:21] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a movie designed for red boxing.
[01:13:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, and it's, uh, I guarantee you a hot piece of garbage.
[01:13:26] [SPEAKER_05]: And the question we're going to ask is,
[01:13:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Did Robert time junior think he was going to win the Oscar?
[01:13:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That's the question.
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_05]: That's the question.
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[01:13:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Because I go into this movie or making this movie.
[01:13:37] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll talk about it in it.
[01:13:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, yeah.
[01:13:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you all for listening.
[01:13:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Thanks guys.
[01:13:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you very much.
[01:13:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Goodbye, Phantom Menace.
[01:13:45] [SPEAKER_05]: As always, keep on monging those gorgs.
