[00:01:25] Well, uh, something has survived. You know that's his only scene in that fucking movie? Yeah, I know. In Forbidden Kingdom, you mean? Yeah. I'm just gonna... You know what? I'm just gonna do the second round. I'm just gonna do the sweet 16 on.

[00:01:39] We were at the end of the first round. Okay, perfect. Last time I had successfully predicted that Wes Anderson was gonna butcher Elaine May. A very confident prediction that we totally couldn't correct. Oh, that's right. No, you're right. Okay, yeah. So yeah, Sam Raimi kicked Warren Beatty's ass.

[00:01:51] Elaine May shanked Wes Anderson and left him on a garbage island. Cal-Suprise. Michael Mann just suplexed Terrence Malick. You're big in a suplex these days. I know, I love it. Um, Hackerling beat Michael Bay. And try to heckle that. Great.

[00:02:09] Um, and uh, Luke Beson made it through the first round against Darren Aronofsky. There you go. So let's talk about the sweet 16 and the elite eight and then what's coming up in the future? Okay. So some of the matches we had Fincher versus 70s Altman.

[00:02:28] I think this one stung for you. This one stung. Altman was your guy. Altman was my guy. He was probably the one you were rooting for the most apart from maybe Dante.

[00:02:35] Yeah, I'd say those are my two and I thought he put up such a good fight in the first round. He did. That I thought maybe he stood a chance and it was a trouncing. I mean, cause Altman just edged Quarron in the first round.

[00:02:48] And this is, but this is the other thing we had thought, okay, PTA and Fincher are the buzz saws first and second seed PTA proved very vulnerable. So I thought maybe Fincher isn't as strong as we thought.

[00:03:02] Just, you know what guys and Fincher's made it through just like when you're voting think about the fact that we could always do David Fincher. We put him on the bracket so it's on us. Look, we don't want to sway votes, but let's, let's put it this way.

[00:03:16] Okay. Sometimes when the listenerships a little bit low or like who's a big person where all their movies are hits. Exactly. Everyone's seen their movies. Listen, and as the, as the producer, I gotta tell you, I kind of agree like that we should do Fincher.

[00:03:34] Well, I'm just saying more when you do popular directors, you get more listens without fail. Right. Yeah. And usually I don't know. That's why we're rooting for Elaine May. Yeah. What comes to mind is when movies are unavailable in any format except for

[00:03:50] incredibly rare DVDs, strangely, I don't know if this is going to surprise you guys. Strangely? What are you going to? The listeners are low. The listeners are low. Wow. That's a little podcast inside baseball for you guys. All right. Next. Hard riff.

[00:04:05] I should formally announce here our next miniseries is Fatty R Buckle because he's totally free of any controversy and also all his films are readily available on Nickelodeon. So if you want to go to your local Nickelodeon, throw down a. All right.

[00:04:19] We're actually just going to do a deep dive, a fan of podcast style with the movie, The Day the Clown Cry. All right. So look forward to that. All right. So actually, you know, it wasn't so bad. It was 5743. I'm looking back at the results.

[00:04:32] Oh, it's close to that. All right. So these are one of those things where it's like Fight Club would be one of our biggest episodes ever, but neither of us really want to talk about Fight Club.

[00:04:38] But I think that's why people want us to talk about Fight Club. We'll have a fine time talking about Fight Club. I don't know. It's about a Fight Club. Well, the first rule is we shouldn't really talk about it. Yeah.

[00:04:47] You should get that out, double it and cut it out again. All right. So the next matchup was Gore Verbinski versus Guillermo del Toro. This is our most voted on matchup. 4200 votes or something crazy like that. Like poor lost with more votes than most winners have got.

[00:05:00] And I think Karen Hahn deserves a big round of applause for that. She fought hard. Don't be a poor vote for Gore. Yeah. But unfortunately you weirdos who like it was sort of like a weird silent majority

[00:05:10] thing where like there weren't a lot of people being like, I love Guillermo, but he snuck it out. Look, obviously if people's favorite, but we thought Gore was really popular with our listeners. Not only that, people always tweeted me being like, I mean, Gore Verbinski is a must.

[00:05:25] Also another thing and then I'm moving on. People keep saying we'd have to do five Pirates movies. No, just three. Just three. Just three. You get out on the good one. He's not a Michael Bay word. You get out on the good one. Interesting. All right.

[00:05:38] Next matchup was Peter Jackson versus George Miller. George Miller a lower seed than Jackson, but he soundly defeats him 54 to 46. He's used God. Seated, Rami and Miller both lower than I thought they should be.

[00:05:48] And I had big franchises and you went, I well with Rami, I wasn't so skeptical, but with Matt the Mad Max. I was like, Mad Max is a big franchise. Yeah. My friend. Yeah. You're right.

[00:06:00] So the babes, I think there's also I also think there's some Hobbit fatigue. I think six Hobbit movies, you know, but also people fucking love Fury Road. Fury Road is one of the greatest check clears in true blockbuster cinema. I like that movie.

[00:06:13] Next was Martin Bress versus Sophia Coppola. So another Griffin fave Coppola took him down 56 to 44. And I love Coppola. People say, I don't want to hear them talk about Coppola because they're going to rag on Coppola. I'm a Coppola fan. Yeah. You're a Coppola fan.

[00:06:28] I'm kind of a Coppola noncommittal. Sure. I like a couple of them. But I mean, look at the end of the day, my breast man. Of course. And I'm over a leg guy. I wanted the breast man to win and he didn't.

[00:06:39] I think he's the kind of guy where we would rarely have the courage to commit to a miniseries because of the fear of hemorrhaging listeners. So it's like, guys, if you guys could vote for him, then we'd be able to justify it. He lost.

[00:06:52] The next matchup was Paul Thomas Anderson versus Nancy Meyers and PTA was never in the lead. It was close 53 to 47. But this is when Nancy really revealed herself as a force to be wrecked. She's going to go all the way. That's my prediction.

[00:07:09] Your prediction is she's taking it all the way. I think she's taking it all the way. Then Joe Dante versus Sam Raimi wasn't even close and I know Dante was your boy. Dante's peak was we see him high.

[00:07:18] Yeah, he peaked and then he got boiled alive in a hot spring in the inferno. Yeah, exactly. That was 62 to 38 and I love me some rain but come on guys. Maybe would be fun though. Maybe would be fun. Next was Elaine May versus Michael Mann.

[00:07:36] Now Elaine May had had a little bit of a Cinderella triumph over. I think she got 165 percent of the vote against West. Yeah, people were not eager for a West. And or so many series. Thank God but Michael may has sort of proved Michael. Michael man Michael.

[00:07:51] Well they could imagine merging those two. What a force. Yeah, my the fiend for Mojito himself. He has been pretty unstoppable. He took her down 67 to 33 thrilled. I am thrilled. He's my guy. So you can Michael man, explain your way through an entire many series.

[00:08:08] I believe Emma Stefansky had the great Twitter joke. I want to shout it out right now which is what do what is it that Michael man's fans call themselves men still think about that five comedy points. And then Amy Heckerling.

[00:08:21] Yeah, she took down Luc Bresson pretty easily 55 to 45. Look who's talking now. Luke who's talking. All right. So in the quarter finals in the elite eight. Okay, lead it here we go. Fincher versus del Toro. That was pretty smooth sailing for venture just so del Toro del Toro

[00:08:41] was a bit of a sacrificial lamb there. I think if for Binsky had made it one Karen Han, Karen Han would have had a goddamn con niphtion fit and probably would have pushed him over the line. Yes, it would have at least been closer.

[00:08:52] Yeah, this is what I'm saying. Yeah, and there were people tweeting to me about recounts. Yeah, about electoral college versus popular vote. Trying to find something friend of the podcast passing future guys. Lux Alptrum tweeted that a vote for Gorgor Bensky is a vote for

[00:09:05] Griffin's loss of virginity story. That's true because I had forgotten that I lost my virginity during Pirate of the Caribbean three at World's End. One day we'll talk about it, but then people got angry where they said I already voted against Gore. An hour left on the clock.

[00:09:19] Yeah. And to them I say, trust me, you don't want to hear that story. Yeah, I've heard that story more than once. Anyway, Fincher destroyed del Toro. The next matchup was Miller versus Coppola closer. Yes, but Miller again had a solid lead the whole time.

[00:09:33] 54 to 46 was how he beat her. He's riding that fury road. And then today we had Nancy Meyers versus Sam Raimi. That's ongoing as we podcast. Right. Meyers is in the lead. She's kicking ass. Right. I will double check the, yes, it's 56 to 44.

[00:09:53] I don't think Raimi's going to pull this out. No, I don't either. There's been a war in my Twitter matches on the day this episode is coming out. Sure. We'll be in the final match of the elite eight.

[00:10:04] Michael Mann versus Amy Hecker will be in the throes of that now. This will probably be man's first test. Yeah. But I still like that the sort of might he's had so far. I don't know, but you know, heckling's taken two pretty big guys down.

[00:10:17] So I don't know. Maybe she'll it's a real, those are real polar opposite filmmakers. Michael Mann and Amy Hecker. Yeah, you also could get to a point here where it's, it's the final four is two men on one side, two women on one side. That's possible.

[00:10:32] It could be Meyers, Heckerling on one side. That's right. Yeah. Cause then the two, it's Fincher Miller is going to be one side of the bracket done written in stone. That's right. That's right.

[00:10:44] And then the other side is going to be Meyers versus blank and could be man could be Heckerling. I see a lot of man stands in the, a lot of man standing. We call them fiends from Mahitas. Yeah. Okay. In the reddit.

[00:10:58] So I think man's going to pull this one out, but I think man winning is only going to weaponize the Meyers supporters even more. Yeah. You mean in the next matchup? Yeah. That might be a real, a real bloodbath. I don't know. Yeah.

[00:11:14] I don't know what happens there. I think if man beats Heckerling then Meyers trounces man. We'll see. I think you're right. I think there's a weird, like there's the sort of chaos reigns people have gone

[00:11:24] over to Nancy and then there's just the people who are like with God as my witness. I want these boys to talk about Nancy Meyers. Like it's become a sort of religious thing for them and then John Bray like just wants to watch the world. So that's yeah.

[00:11:38] And then I guess that's what we got coming up. Oh God. Is that much to look forward to? So Fincher Miller, I think Fincher has that, but maybe not. Yeah. I wonder if I have underrated Miller this whole time. Yes. So maybe I'm wrong. I think, I forgot.

[00:11:53] I mean Miller's Meyer would be an exciting head to head for me. Yeah. Weird one. Those are two. Not what I would have predicted. Me neither. But that's what I like about the Smarch Madness. It's neither us picking people strategically nor picking our favorites. Right.

[00:12:06] It's those are actual people's choice winners. Yeah. You know? Yeah. That's what I like about that. I'm going to go ahead and get that down to Miller Myers. And I'll be thrilled with either of those results.

[00:12:17] I'd be a little less excited with Fincher, a man, two people whose filmographies I love, but I feel like are more often chewed. Fuck master. I got to disagree with you there. Jesus Christ. Sorry. The wing is from fucking. Let me put a cigarette out.

[00:12:48] He has some great fucking movies. And I got to tell you, I like a lot of Fincher movies. Maybe it's boring. Maybe it's territory that's been crossed before. But whatever. I'm glad that the fuck master is the one speaking up for these two directors. Yeah, right?
